Dissapointing news.
I’ve been a fan of Tranquil Sea for a while now and was suitably impressed by his debut over fences at Cork. Seemed to take to fences really well in what didn’t look a bad race (the victory of Footy Facts at Thurles actually indirectly boosts the form, as Footy Facts was runner-up Baltiman at Tipperary).
I had actually thought he might make an Arkle prospect given that he travels well and has a decent turn of foot (though he doesn’t tend to do a lot in front), but who am I to argue with O’Grady!
Rode at Downpatrick in a few schooling races a while back. It is quite narrow at a few spots (down the back notably), but not terribly difficult to ride by any means (though cresting the hill and then heading downhill after the line is about as close to being on a roller coaster as I ever want to be!)
There is a definite advantage to those who race prominently BTW.
You can’t spell ‘fantastic’!

Stop being so pedantic, fer phuck sake!

The well-named Gay Kellaway has certainly taken a shine to her, by all accounts.
That’s nothing but a scurrilous rumour, probably

Or perhaps a lame attempt at humour…
I certainly don’t supportIf I got up to something I shouldn’t have last night with a member of the opposite sex and happend to blurt it out on here would people be telling me what scum I was for breaking the law?
Of all the posts on this subject, I find this one to be easily the most distrubing.

I’m back in there now for a bit..
Those at the head of the market look pretty solid, but I can’t resist 25/1 quotes Benbaun. He showed last year he’s a genuine Group 1 performer, and though he’s yet to show his best this year, he has got closer to it with every run this year.
Benbaun caught my eye as well, DJ. Seems to be improving with every run this year as you said. If the forecast rain were to arrive, however, I think a stiff 6 furlongs in soft ground (Wallace has always maintained he’s a fast-ground horse) might stretch his stamina.
All white were registered to one of the Darley entourage until recently – used to have horse with Ed Dunlop if i recall correctly.
That would be Surprise Encounter, merely hinted at above, ‘owned’ by Ahmed Buhaleeba. His brother Abdulla raced his horses in all orange silks which were sported by the top class 2yo’s Lucky Story and Shamardal. Lucky Story was taken over by Godolphin as a 3yo and Shamardal suddenly changed connections before he ran in the Dewhurst. Until 2001 the brothers had runners in different silks and under different names, being known as Ahmed and Abdulla Ali. I believe there are several other family members who were involved in ownership. An interesting episode in racing history.
Seem to remember the switch in ownership having something to do with Buhaleeba wracking up huge losses at a London casino.
Isn’t Crisford just a PR man?
Colin
No, you’re thinking of Frankie Dettori, Col.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. All points taken on board.
I would tend to agree with Colin Little’s view of Raven’s Pass; if he had been ridden more positively yesterday, I think it must be very doubtful whether he would have been finishing to the same effect. I would also agree that yesterday’s run represented a very high standard of form.
yquem21, while Zarkava has been very impressive in everything she’s done, she’s got it all to prove on form over a mile that she’s anywhere near as good as Henrythenavigator. Doesn’t look like she’ll get the chance to prove it either.
The Derby was a strange affair this year, and it was surely affected by the 2 no hopers that cut out the pace, one of them from Ballydoyle.
It detracts from the race- It was not the test of stamina it was intended to be.This is just absolute nonsense.
This is the danger of summer hibernation. If aroused from their slumber, the National Hunt fanatic can become disorientated and angry, babbling incoherently. Unable to understand why the horses on the television are moving so quickly, they can experience dizziness and in some cases Tourettes-like outbursts of vernacular abuse.
The only cure is to catch them humanely (by luring them into steel cages with a mouldy copy of ‘Hunters, Chasers and Carthorses 1975’) and return them to the darkened cave from whence they came. If left undisturbed, they will sleep soundly until the temperature drops to two degrees above freezing and the smell of muddy tweed hangs on the air.
Fantastic.

Apparently Casino Drive was slightly lame this morning on his left hind. Believed to be a stone bruise.
Congrats, firefox, great call and an even better mensh!

A mensh? Is that some sort of Welsh delicacy, Col?
Shocking stuff.

Bertie did his fair share of good work during his tenure no doubt, but this is becoming embarrasing.
I really don’t think there is that much of an interest within the general public to know the in’s and out’s of the whole affair now. The Mahon Tribunal has been a massive waste of taxpayer money.
Great shout, Firefox.
Believe you made Paul Haigh a few quid as well, and got a deserved mention on his Derby blog on the Racing Post website!
let’s "face" it I’m always glad to lend a helping "hand" but reading what some have said on this thread it looks like it’s been a waste of "time".
"swatch" this space!

Face…. Hand…. Time….
What are you trying to say Jim???
