A horse in the stalls reared over backwards and just lay on its back half in – half out. Handlers pulled him out, during which time he started to wriggle a bit and gave the horse in the stall next door a couple of clouts. They shut the gates and let the horse next door go without checking it.
I think perhaps it all happened a bit quickly and they didnt realise exactly what happened.
Probably a genuine mistake, but it did look bad.Totally depends on the trainer. The space usually indicates what could be wrong with the horse, and/or what has been done to put it right.
Knowing how different trainers approach these things is useful when it comes to buying/claiming a horse. Not sure it has that much relevance elsewhere. That wasn’t very nice, Cheekster!

I was only saying what everyone else was thinking!
Yes Racinggirl, from your posts on another forum I had worked out you dont do happy hacking, infact you havent sat on a horse for a couple of years have you?I think the fact that you would, supposedly, pay £25k for something to go happy hacking indicates that you know nothing at all.
I have a funny video on there, but you do need a special sense of humour to appreciate it.
Best with the volume up –

"… and he got second place in a juvenile hurdle at Cartmel a few months ago … we we’re really chuffed."

LOL! I was thinking almost the same thing.
‘Finished a staying on 4th round Towcester.’What I find odd is that geldings can run in the ‘trials’. Specifically the Chester Vase. Yet fillies can’t.
Wheres the logic in that?I wonder just how long more owners will keep subsiding it
I think they are more likely to support racing if their horses can actually get in a race, which is a struggle at the moment.
Daylami is almost a complete failure as a stallion. He has now been shipped aboad (think Japan?).
Majority of his are big, very late maturing types who stay all day. If he’d have stayed the best he could have been would be similar to Rakaposhi King.
Dont dislike them though, if you want a plodder! To be honest AP summed up my point far more eloquently then I could have dreamed of, in the sense that the NH scene has to be careful of unraced flat horses specifically being kept back to be aimed at cleaning up in bumper races if the trainer/ owner has no intention of ever making it a NH horse…
I dont think that happens in the general scheme of things. Its usually the horses that have been injured early on that are saved for bumpers. That way they are racing against similarly inexperienced horses, as opposed to animals that have been in training for 18 months+ on the flat. Giving a flat horse a couple runs in bumpers is just delaying the handicap mark, so 2 wasted runs in the majority of cases (obviously not this one though).
So then Aaftershock…If I read in the Racing Post that some nutcase turned up at Shaftesbury waving an ‘ALLOW EMBRYO TRANSFER’ banner, ill know who it is???
I completely agree about the state of the breeding industry.
I think it would be wise to follow the lead of the various sport horse associations on this one. Only let ‘graded’ mares stock be registered.
Would be very hard to implement, but worthwhile. No need to go showing , if the mares won they get in. If the mares placed and has a good pedigree they get in.
I think the ‘unraced’ mares are the problem. There is just no knowing if whatever caused them not to race can be overided by the obvious strong genes in a good page. These would have to be assessed carefully.
I hate going to the sales with a list of 50 to look at, and only finding 2 that I would consider staright enough to race soundly for a few years.
TBH I can get quite angry about it.
I guess I will keep on doing so too, no way will the HRA/Weatherby’s grow the backbone they need to tackle this issue and blow the Irish con artists out of the water. If the chippy makes money then why not buy now, make a bit whilst gaining info then change to a bookies later.
All that is only someone elses opinion though.
At least with RUK you have the info to make your own opinion, if you are capable.
Perhaps I am bitter because my brother nicks the RP and takes it racing!
RUK, without doubt.
No annoying adverts gives them more time to actually focus on the racing.
Full colour cards before each race – what more can you ask for?Timmy Murphy’s book is well on a par with with Dunwoody’s.
I own 2, the one is nearly ready to run.
