Most recent acquisitions are by American progsters Echolyn and also Discipline. Great stuff if you like the long epic tracks. Mei by Echolyn is a single track album of 50+ mins! Just about lasts my whole train journey into London!
Man-Erg by Van Der Graaf Generator from the album Pawn Hearts
Isn’t Iris’s Gift meant to be following a proper novice chasing campaign this season, in which case he’d be unlikely to meet Kicking King until next season?
I would recommend Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon / Broken Angels) for any fans of hard edged sci-fi. Definitely to the fore in modern science fiction writing.
Mostly pretty poor stuff compared with the greats (Fawlty Towers / The Office / Blackadder) but I plumped for Butterflies, if only because it reminds me of my wife’s ‘experimental’ cooking techniques!
Jeremy – agree re Poppy Z Brite, with Exquisite Corpse being my favourite (by definitely not for the squeamish / faint hearted).
Other female authors read and enjoyed lately have been:
Mo Hayder (Birdman / The Treatment /Tokyo)
Karin Slaughter (Blindsighted)
PJ Tracy – a mother daughter writing combo (Live Bait / Want To Play)
Tess Gerritsen (The Surgeon)
Fay Weldon (Puffball)
Donna Tartt (The Secret History)
Nicci French (Land Of The Living)

86% beginner
93% intermediate
100% advanced
77% expert

I managed just over the 100, and have taken a couple of years off, but will return at some point in the future…..
Scanning my bookshelves as I type, I can particularly recommend the following from a list of many:
The Executioner’s Song – Norman Mailer
Lonesome Dove – Larry McMurtry
A Perfect Storm – Sebastian Junger
A Prayer For Owen Meany – John Irving
Libra – Don DeLillo
American Gods – Neil Gaiman
Birdman / The Treatment – Mo Hayder
Ghostwritten – David Mitchell
The Big Blowdown – George P Pelecanos
The Black Dahlia / American Tabloid – James Ellroy
Quite Ugly One Morning – Christopher Brookmyre
The Redundancy Of Courage – Timothy Mo
Blood Meridien – Cormac McCarthy
Double Whammy – Carl Hiassen
Killing Flooer – Lee Child
In Xanadu – William Dalrymple
Scorpian Rising – Anthony Frewin
The Ultimate Rush – Joe Quirk
There are many more, but that’s a good shortlist!
Murakami is also a favourite of mine.
Excellent to see justice done with Johnson again clearly winning the rematch, and actually given the verdict this time. And the after fight chat with him showed clearly how much it meant to him and how much he needed and deserved to win the fight!
I championed The Rooster’s claims last season and see no reason to desert him now. Form well ahead of other challengers last year, and if anything, his jumping improved last year. I used to think he’d win his races despite his hurdling, but he did seem more accomplished in this department.
Not saying he’ll not be beaten in one of the trials perhaps, but the conditions of the Champion Hurdle are ideal, especially the large field, fast pace you normally get there.
If the real Back In Front turns up, it could be interesting (his novice win last season lives long in the memory). Rhinetone could be a threat if finding at least 7lbs improvement.
Can’t see much else at this stage – though some dark horse could still emerge e.g Specular?
That performance did a lot to restore some pride (and it will probably remain the best game of the World Cup). Some of the lads really stood up to be counted, and deserve to retain their places for the England game. My one hope now is that they can put up a similar performance on Sunday. If they go out fighting then that’s all you can ask.
My original comment at the time was very much justified though, as they were playing some shameful rugby at the time.
I saw the programme on Thursday night (channel 5 I think) that showed the first fight between Eubank and Benn – what a good fight that was!
The rematch (along with a couple of early Ali fights (Liston / Patterson) is on shortly before midnight tonight.
welsh..but ashamed!
Anyone think that Lewis would have been inconvenienced by the fact that Johnson pulled out of the fight? He may have been expecting a much easier bout, then had to modify his training last minute to accommodate a different style opponent. His fitness did look questionable after such a long layoff though, especially as he was carrying so much weight.
Personally, I would like to see Lewis call it a day soon, retiring as champion when people remember him as the best. The only credible fight I see for him would be with Roy Jones…now that would be interesting……..
I look at it like this.:o
Aidan – not sure I fully grasp what you’re saying here or whether you’re agreeing with or contradicting my last post. It is late!
