I thought I had already posted in here but haven’t. I’ve backed Unexpected Party at 9s (7s now so hopefully nobody will be enraged enough to report this post for aftertiming!) and he’s a strong fancy.
I’m not often a favourite backer but I can’t see past Kopek Des Bordes here. I’m hoping he will get me, and many others, off to a good start.
Doesn’t bother me at all. I think it’s human nature that trainer’s put more time into their better horses and for most of them, this will have been the plan from a long way out, if not for the entire season.
NAP
Unexpected Party. Can’t see what stops him retaining his Grand Annual crown. 9/1 with Bet365.Lay
Jonbon. Best horse in the race but he has a mistake in him and there are genuine dangers in Gaelic Warrior, Solness, Marine Nationale and Energumene. Each Way
Gemirande. Course form, will like the ground, meets most of the recent trends and is trained by Venetia who knows how to ready one. 16/1 but I reckon there will be 20s out there at some point between now and the day. This is another of my favourite races. Lots of promising horses entered and of those at the top of the market I really like Meetmebythesea as well VtC. Can’t be backing him at those odds though.
The one I like at a price is Not So Woolly. I am a sucker for a horse with solid placed form but without winning when making their handicap debut and this guy fits the bill. 25/1 EW.
I had the same issue last Friday when I noticed Coral were a much bigger price than anyone else at 2/1 for Horaces Pearl and I reluctantly uploaded a photograph of my driving license as requested. I hadn’t logged into the account in months which was the reason why I didn’t think much of their request at the time. I took the money and ran as soon as it came in but have reservations about what they intend to do with my data now that I give it the proper thought I should have done at the time.
Well done Tiz and Wilts!
He’s a very likeable horse. I wonder if they’ll go for the 100k bonus at the festival or if they’ll not be tempted due to him getting stuffed in the Greatwood back in November.
February 27, 2025 at 19:46 in reply to: Tenerife for the Cheltenham festival. Anyone done it? #1721441I’ve had a quick look online to do this next year. I’ll be going with wor lass and our 2 year old son and will also be looking at a family hotel in close proximity to a sports bar with Guinness on tap.
I await your report with interest, Tiz.
There seems to be one of these talking horses from France ahead of every Festival nowadays but how many of them actually win? Gaelic Warrior was beaten as a juvenile as was Bad for Ben Pauling, both of whom were apparently stones ahead of the handicapper.
I’m happy to let Kopeck De Mee run without my money on. If he wins he wins. I don’t have an issue with his rating.
He’s certainly a looker and I wish him the best in his recovery. I have his full brother in my tracker, Secret Sniper, who has shown promise in two placed bumper runs this term. He’s equally gorgeous.
Bet365 have opened at 33s for Captain Butler and that’s enough for me to take the plunge. Quite a sizeable bet by my standards too.
He’s 13lbs higher than last year’s mark, Tiz?
Florida Dreams will surely land a decent handicap at some point and it’s likely to be something like this. I’ll chance him at 12s.
The entries look like they’ve been copied and pasted from my ATR tracker. Loads of potentially smart horses set to line up but I have to keep faith with a horse I put in my 10TF last year only for him to be ruled out for the season. Captain Butler blew the cobwebs away with a dominant hurdles debut and the 25/1 on offer looks ridiculously generous despite his lack of experience.
I had my first proper look at this last night and came down on three. However, I swiftly ruled Masaccio out as it sounds as though he’s going to swerve this which I found quite surprising given he looks like he wants 3 miles.
I’ve come down on Henry’s Friend as my main bullet and taken the 16s with Bet365, each way.
My other fancy is La Renommee, a general 33s shot, but not backed her until I can find some evidence it’s her intended target. She’s entered in the Mares Chase and the Grand National, though would be unlikely to get a run in that.
Brilliant Eezer, inspired selection

I wasn’t going to have a bet in this as it looks very competitive. However, I feel compelled to back a horse I’ve followed for a long time. I expected him to kick on over fences but a record of 1-9 has been disappointing. That said, his last run was arguably his best and came at 3.5 miles so this trip should be manageable. Passing Well 11-1, win only.
