The remake of ‘The Hills Have Eyes’

I reckon John Francome, Derek Thompson, Jim McGrath and John McCririck ought to be the next boyband for next years X Factor!
As far as horse-racing jokes are concerned, I actually think one of the funniest things I heard came from a seemingly unwittingly bit of commentry from Graham Goode years ago in jump race. There was a horse named ‘Socks Downe’ and during the latter stages of the race, Mr Goode mentioned that ” Socks Downe has pulled up “. The manner and tone in which he said it caused me to laugh out loud.

Q – What is the definition of a surprise?
A – A fart with a lump in it!
Multidimensional, I thought, had an unlucky race. He accelerated and went to shoot through a gap which soon closed on him and shut him off that cost him several lengths. By the time the horse recovered and asked for his effort again, the race was nearly over.
Better luck next time Multidimensional!
I thought the race was a little unsatisfactory and a little disappointing.
The winner fought well but didn’t have that touch of class, the second did better than expected, Raven’s Pass looked short of stamina and the Godolphin horse didn’t fire.
I wouldn’t be interested in the 2/1 for the Guineas.
Colin
I think the going/ground was the decisive factor here. If the going would’ve been good-firm instead of good-soft, then I feel the result would’ve been different.
I don’t think Raven’s Pass looked short of stamina. To me, the ground had took the sting out of his speed. He appeared as though he just didn’t like the going. But yes, all in all, I too was a bit disappointed with the race.
Oujia Board and Shamardal quickly spring to mind.
The names I’m not keen on are the ones named after people like Henry Kissinger, George Washington, etc. Also, the A King trained horse called ‘Katchit’ … sounds like cat ****
Horse names I do like are :-
Dancing Brave
Spindrifter
Carnivore
Double Trigger
Silver Buck
Lochsong
SharpoRaven’s Pass to score by two and a half lengths from Rio De La Plata with New Approach half length back in third!

I think Raven’s Pass has the turn of foot to beat anything in the field. He destroyed City Leader with ridiculous ease … who later won the Royal Lodge.
If Rio De La Plata is ridden closer to the pace this time, he might well turn the tables on New Approach and pose a bigger threat to RP.After the disappointment of Authorized’s arc run, the bitterness in the air (due to the fact that the horse hasn’t retired on a high and that we haven’t really seen what he’s truly capable of) is lingering like a bad fart. I kinda sense that there’s an invisible force at work urging connections to give Authorized another go on the course.
Fingers crossed.
If DT goes to the USA , just remember we don’t have a good record over there and he’s had a hard season remember Dancing Brave after the Arc and that was a much better performance than DT yesterday.
Very true.
Dancing Brave faced rock-hard opposition but passed the lot as though they were standing. His Arc victory is superior compared to that of Dylan Thomas.
I believe even Bering or Sharastani would’ve murdered Sunday’s Arc field.Edited to add – Soldier Of Fortune comes across to me as a ‘Turtle Island’ type of horse.
What cheeses me off most is when horses are retired at the end of their third year and go to stud. Horses seem to be better performers as four year olds, are more hardened and have the chance to improve their form.
For example, could you imagine if Dancing Brave would’ve stayed in training at four? Try and visualize a clash with him and Reference Point and think what the form would’ve been like.
When horses are retired at three, it really doesn’t give the form much chance to work out to see how it compares and links up the following year to give a more accurate indication with the younger and older generations of horses.
Only seen the race once and had a few beers on, but would I be wrong in saying Authorized was a little keen to post and failed to settle properly in the race?
No
Exactly how i saw it
Just wasnt himself
I agree too.
To put it simple, Authorized had an off day and just didn’t fire. We all know that he’s a far better horse than that when he beat Dylan Thomas in the Juddmonte.
I think there are many people who’re all too hasty to condemn him after one poor run.I hope that Authorized will stay in training next year and redeem himself.
My all-time favourite jumpers are:-
Silver Buck, Wayward Lad, Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon, See You Then and Kauto Star.
That is a great shame but thankfully, it isn’t too serious.
Winker Watson is indeed a class act and was my favourite 2 Y 0 until Raven’s Pass turned up.
Nevertheless, Winker Watson possesses a terrific turn of speed and I fully agree that he’ll be an excellent 3 Y O.Aragorn here are the previous Niel winners and times SOF was indeed the fastest

Personally, I feel that Authorized will take the Arc by the scruff of the neck early in the straight and leave the field toiling in his wake and cruise to a victory very similar to his Derby success.
Most of these examples will be over jumps but one flat race which sticks in my mind was the ex-Brian Meehan trained Freefourinternet winning the Hawthorne Gold Cup (Gr.2) in 2004. With half a mile to run he was about a furlong behind the leader – the odds on Perfect Drift. Then Greta Kuntzweiller (great name!) began to get a run out of him and he came flying down the stretch to win going away. I wonder what price he’d have been on Betfair.
That reminds me of a race many years ago when I put a fiver on a horse named Run Over (Ridley Lamb was the jockey I think). Rounding the home turn, Run Over must have been a good 20 lengths behind the second last horse. He was completely tailed off and, because of that, I ripped up my ticket and threw it across the living room in sheer disgust. Approaching the last fence, the horse suddenly appeared from nowhere, jumped into the lead and sprinted away as though he was on nitrous oxide to win. I just stood there in disbelief looking at my betting slip that looked like confetti. Run Over’s price was 13-2.
Even more stunning was an eye-popping win in a 2 Y O race by a filly named ‘Dance Machine’ back in the 80’s I think. If anyone remembers this race, then you’ll know what I mean. This horse must of passed a dozen others right at the death to snatch it by a neck or so.
Don’t you just love flying finishers?
