One thing which gets to me is when owners call horses simple or silly names. Which are your favourite names from horses that are running at the moment, or horses of the past.
I quite like –
Voy Por Ustedes
Obelix De Longchaux
Sybellius D’Artaix
And of course… My Way De Solzen.
October 15, 2007 at 08:29 #119512I misinterpreted the title as “favourite ehorse names” at first, as in virtual horses.
I can’t say that too many of the pixellated platers of Portman Park (how’s that for alliteration first thing of a Monday morning!) have burned their names into my brain to date, but the one virtual greyhound whose name I particularly like is Sausages – bit of a throwback to the talking dogs of That’s Life!, and more recently the Walls adverts, I think.
Silliest names of real horses? Try some of these;
Hellcatmudwrestler
It’s Mr Blobby
Mrdeegeethegeegee
Snooker Table

Mike
October 15, 2007 at 11:54 #119547yes MikkyMo there was and it was a good one
it’s a brood mare now but it’s offspring : compton banker (by distinctly north) , tumbleweed galore (by bluebird) , night adventure (by night shift) , best offer (by danehill dancer) & matthew my son (by lake coniston) could have been much more imaginatively named in my opinion
sounds like a good idea for a competition – renaming mary hinge’s little ones ….
October 15, 2007 at 12:00 #119552my favourites are the O’Brien horses named after famous places or buildings or something, like Giants Causeway, Great Barrier Reef etc etc Also like the horses named after famous people eg George Washington. What would you call your horse if you owned one? If i had one fillie and one colt….
Fillie – Lady Godiva (im from coventry!!)
Colt – Stonehenge (or maybe a new ‘King of Kings’)October 15, 2007 at 14:15 #119590all unpronounceable Irish names for a start like Tir na Nog etc – but favourite name of all time [and I used to go round saying it to myself] was Sabin du Loir. There was a horse a few years ago called 42D that was owned by a bra manufacturer; it won at Uttoxeter and the guys on CH 4 racing had a field day [double handfulls etc etc]. The name that I chose for my hypothetical horse was ‘Themanwhomadetime’ from a book I read once where someone asked for directions somewhere in Ireland [he was obviously in a hurry] and the bloke sitting on a gate in the middle of nowhere said ‘The man who made time made plenty of it’…..but then I thought to myself that if anything happened to him [hypothetical horse, that is] they would say his time had run out and it was tempting fate, so it’s back to the drawing board name wise…..
October 15, 2007 at 14:20 #119596Coffin Dodger was one of my favourites, especially as he was by Dracula

You can have Very Promising or Very Very Ordinary ~ don’t start mixing them up!

I can’t believe your surname is McSamuckle though…………
October 15, 2007 at 15:48 #119621My favorite names would have to be:
Brave Inca
Sea pigeon
Viking Flagship (im sure theres a member on here with that name too)
Exotic DancerOctober 15, 2007 at 15:59 #119623My favourite horse name is Classified. Could have something to do with the amount I won on him once!! But I do think it’s a ‘cool’ name.
Baracouda is another particularly good one in my opinion.
For fun names, I like Always Waining (makes me think of the Fools & Horses episode when Del tried to manage a singer who couldn’t pwonounce his ‘R’s); Why the Big Paws and Rooster Booster.
For superstars with good names, how about Rock of Gibralter, Red Rum , Brigadier Gerard and Desert Orchid.
For a particularly interesting name, I liked Flagship Uberalles.
And I once owned half-a-hoof in a horse called Silent Storm, which I think is a good name too.

I’ll stick to Plan A, after all promising is better than ordinary!!! My memory must have been very very muddled!
Re my surname, very very close!
