i thought George’s stallion prospects were more or less limited due to his inability to do the "job", not the fact that he hadn’t done it on sand, over 10f etc?
October 15, 2007 at 16:36 #119633In terms of quality this is a very weak Champion Stakes. To be truthful there’s only one real genuine Group one horse in the race – Notnowcato and he’s never been a "top drawer" group oner like a Dylan Thomas or a Manduro. To be honest if he runs and runs up to his form he should win. Maraahel would be a danger and Eagle Mountain is capable. The rest will all have to improve.
October 15, 2007 at 18:32 #119649Multidimensional looks an interesting runner. However I can’t make my mind up whether he did really well to win a race that Durcan didn’t seem to be bothered about for winning at Newbury or whether he was flattered by the race conditions against some badly out of sort rivals and a foreigner racing over the wrong trip. The truth of it is that it is probably a combination of the 2.
Hard to see how the market won’t have him in short. Anyone seen any betting? That would be my sort of tissue.
Notnowcato 2/1
Multidimsensional 9/2
Literato 6/1
Eagle Mountain 8/1
Creachadoir 10/1
Maraahel 14/1
Mount Nelson 14/1
Rest BarHaving looked at oddschecker I see Notnowcato is trading at 7/2. That looks pretty big to me.
October 15, 2007 at 21:04 #119712It looks like a pretty poor G1 (which is quite normal for this race).

October 15, 2007 at 21:43 #119735George runs in the Breeders Cup Classic.
It’s good news that at least one European horse runs in the Classic now.
On the other hand I don’t think that George will win it, he already failed last year, he’s better on turf.October 15, 2007 at 22:17 #119749Maraahel looks good value to me, for a horse who was third, 2 years ago, in the Juddmonte, beaten in a head and a neck by Electrocutionst and the Japanese champion, Zenno Rob Roy.
The race was run in a fast time, judging fron the speed figures and RP ratings assigned to the principals.
October 16, 2007 at 11:09 #119807I’m very keen on the French horse Literato for this. His best run form-wise was probably in the French nearly-derby, when he failed to peg back the enterprisingly-ridden Lawman. That bare form is probably not enough but his two runs since have been very impressive visually and he has the advantage of coming here a fresh horse, unlike Notnowcato. The latter found this a race too far last year (sweated up in the paddock, was gone in his coat) and my gut feeling is that history might repeat itself. Creachadoir to me is a doubtful stayer and Multidimensional is far too short given what he’s acheived. I think the biggest danger might be Doctor Dino, hard and all as his US form is to rate accurately. I wasn’t impressed with Eagle Mountain the last day (ground notwithstanding) and he’s another at the end of a longish season.
October 16, 2007 at 12:23 #119832Th Champion Stakes doesn’t seem to attract the type of top class horse in the manner it used to. Whether this due in part to the Breeder’s Cup, I do not know.
That said, I rather fancy Notnowcato to come up trumps, though I certainly would not begrudge Henry Cecil another visit to the winner’s enclosure.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
October 16, 2007 at 12:38 #119836Notnowcato for me here. Like Ramonti, I don’t think he gets the recognition he deserves and is constantly overpriced.
Passage of Time will bypass the Champion Stakes to run in the Breeders Cup
October 16, 2007 at 12:41 #119837It’s interesting that O’Brien is running Mount Nelson is re-appearing in a G1 – You would expect him to be ready to run as a result. If he has maintained his ability I would expect a big run from him.. He would be the best of the ballydoyle trio for me over this distance..
I think we’ll see a decent priced winner..
October 17, 2007 at 10:44 #120010I think Maraheel is much too big now at 29 on Betfair.
October 20, 2007 at 19:59 #120690Literato’s win made it really G1 worth. What a monster – 11 starts 9 wins 2 2nd places now! One of the best horses in training worldwide, it’s a pitty that he doesn’t run in the Breeder’s Cup.
October 20, 2007 at 21:25 #120701I think it was a decent performance and won by a nice horse.
Good shout Carvillshill.

Sorry, couldn’t resist…a very, very good day. A beautiful piece of race planning and training by Monsieur Rouget and a great ride by Cristophe Lamaire.
October 21, 2007 at 11:06 #120766Multidimensional, I thought, had an unlucky race. He accelerated and went to shoot through a gap which soon closed on him and shut him off that cost him several lengths. By the time the horse recovered and asked for his effort again, the race was nearly over.
Better luck next time Multidimensional!
October 21, 2007 at 12:31 #120783Although somewhat unlucky, I thought Multidimensional ran like a horse that is probably not Group 1 class. He should be suited by a step up to 12f though and with him still being lightly raced there’s a chance he could still do better.
