I believe New Approach is the real deal. The only thing that could beat him is himself.

Or Rio De La Plata
Or Ravens Pass
October 14, 2007 at 09:13 #119399The blood is starting to rush through the veins at the thought of this one, seeing as New Approach, Rio, and Raven’s Pass are all now intended runners.
For what it’s worth, I think the Godolphin horse has a chance of extracting his revenge over Bolger’s horse – NA looked to have an easy lead at the Curragh, imho, and I thought RDLP did well, from so far back, to take a few lengths out of a horse who could have benefited from the way the race was run.
So there is the above re-match to look forward plus the added ingredient of Raven’s Pass who could just go and beat the pair of them.
Here’s wishing they all go to post.

Oh I don’t know about that,
I’m fast, but not as fast as I used to be.

October 15, 2007 at 09:12 #119517Yep, I have to agree. Looks a real mouthwatering prospect of a race. The classy Rio De La Plata against the 2 year old benchmark New Approach with the added ingredient of the amazingly impressive Raven’s Pass. Hope they all make it to Saturday’s race.
October 15, 2007 at 11:15 #119533I don’t think I have seen a better two year old than Ravens Pass. He does everything so easy, I do hope he trains on at three and does not turn into another Elusive City.

October 15, 2007 at 11:52 #119545Fascinating race, as there are imo 3, maybe 4 horses that can win this
October 16, 2007 at 18:21 #119904I think Fast Company could surprise.
Unbeaten in two starts, including an easy success in the Acomb. He travelled well that day before showing a good turn of speed. This represents another step up but no horse has got within 3L of him thus far.
October 16, 2007 at 20:43 #119925Raven’s Pass to score by two and a half lengths from Rio De La Plata with New Approach half length back in third!

I think Raven’s Pass has the turn of foot to beat anything in the field. He destroyed City Leader with ridiculous ease … who later won the Royal Lodge.
If Rio De La Plata is ridden closer to the pace this time, he might well turn the tables on New Approach and pose a bigger threat to RP.October 16, 2007 at 20:54 #119928Simply cant make up my mind about this. Its one of my fav races of the season and this year looks as strong as ever
Not much to add to above other than was it possible that Rio improved quite abit in Paris. Not on formlines, but general performance and strength? Connections indicated that…

Forgive my pedantry, but if his general performance and strength had improved wouldn’t it have shown in his formline anyway?
As it is he beat a fairly modest bunch, and as New Approach has possibly also improved in the interim, I see no reason why the result shouldn’t be exactly the same this time around!
October 17, 2007 at 08:13 #119985Well…not really…because he beat them as he pleased..so who can really measure the direct form?
It was in response to the comments from Godolphin and was thinking more about what some paddock or race watchers may have felt
October 17, 2007 at 08:30 #119989Rio de la plata beat a load of donkeys in Paris, I was there myself, of course he looked good but the real form is in the Phoneix stakes
October 17, 2007 at 09:36 #119992I’m a fan of Raven’s Pass and Rio De La Plata.
but I do think New Approach could be something quite special. My money will be on him.

October 17, 2007 at 11:13 #120014The comparisons between New Approach and Teofilo is remarkable, it even stretches as far as to them both getting the run of things in a less-than-truly run National Stakes and whether the runner-up from that day can reverse form having since shown his well being when winning the Grand Criterium. I expect Rio de La Plata to get closer or at least have a chance of challenging him this time but we don;t know if New Approach would have found more if required. He certainly did when Brazilian Star (albeit who would have little chance in the Dewhurst) briefly got upsides in the Tyros Stakes.
I’ll be taking New Approach and Raven’s Pass in my scoop 6 perm.
October 17, 2007 at 11:48 #120024New Approach was always finding a bit more in the Phoneix if he needed it, Rio de la plata stuffs a few donkeys in Paris and the next thing he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread, I’d be more concerned about Ravens Pass
