I missed that. Would have transported me back to the old Cup Final coverage, when the helicopter followed the teams on their way to Wembley.
June 22, 2026 at 16:42 #1770057Apart from when Brighton travelled to the stadium in a helicopter.
June 22, 2026 at 16:53 #1770058Apparently, it was only due to sponsorship that they did so:

June 22, 2026 at 17:23 #1770060The train was delayed by 20 minutes according to a clip I just saw. He can put in a delay repay claim for that.
June 23, 2026 at 07:15 #1770075I see the “leftwing” BBC have already started their hatchet job on Burnham:
June 23, 2026 at 09:03 #1770083He’s need to find a tailor he looked like a dog’s dinner yesterday.
The more I know the less I understand.
June 23, 2026 at 16:49 #1770102Reminded me of the footage of OJ Simpson car chase. And seemed rather insensitive given we had one of the worst train crashes in recent years only the other day. As for his gloating selfie taken in parliament. Words fail me.
June 23, 2026 at 17:14 #1770103It’s like changing the driver on a dilapidate FI car. Politicians should be honest; the multiple shocks of Tory austerity, Brexit, unstable government (due largely to Brexit), Covid, Ukraine war, Iran war, have devastated the economy.
Voter don’t want to hear this, of course. The real victims are young people, who can’t even begin to get on the property ladder, can’t get a job. But even to suggest scrapping the triple-lock on pensions is unacceptable, as old people vote.
And demanding more money fro defence? Where is the money coming from? The Empire is gone, Britain is small beer now compared to China and the USA. Build alliances rather than pretending we are global powerJune 25, 2026 at 19:15 #1770181To absolutely nobody’s surprise, the lurch to the right has already begun:
June 25, 2026 at 20:21 #1770185If he’s sticking with the same fiscal rules as Starmer why are they changing leader. Other than he can do things in a cheeky chappy way. And post funny things on social media..
June 25, 2026 at 21:00 #1770187They are changing leader because Starmer cocked up by appointing alleged paedo Mandelson as Trump’s lapdog.
June 29, 2026 at 12:17 #1770395Just listened to the Messiah’s speech – what a load of nonsense. How is he going to deliver all these projects whilst sticking to the Tories’ ridiculous fiscal rules?
June 29, 2026 at 13:08 #1770399His plan has always been devolution and giving the north of England more power.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.-------------------------------------------------------

June 29, 2026 at 16:24 #1770412Not my side of politics, but, yes, he certainly has an air of arrogance about him.
However, many successful people do have arrogant traits, incl politicians, sports people, business people, etc.
It’s often their arrogance that boosts their success. As for Burnham’s rumoured plans.
Well, devolved powers and, more importantly, the revenue that will accompany local devolution, risks a massive increase in bureaucracy and its associated cost. Every area will have whole new local departments, costing £Ms, maybe £BNs. I can already see local bigwig after bigwig, with huge salaries and benefits, swanning around the local areas, promoting how brilliant they are and what a transformation they’ve made to the local area.
Burnham’s team are already (allegedly) considering a property tax, c0.48%. Certainly around here that would cost a working household (national average household income, living in a £350k property) about £150/month. That’s steep and unaffordable for many.
No surprise to peeps on here, but i can see a Burnham-led government costing working peeps a lot of money, whilst the benefits merchants (of working age i.e. below SPA) can continue to just carry on.
A new Labour, for the shirkers not the workers.
June 29, 2026 at 17:20 #1770416“for the shirkers not the workers.”
Yawn.
And if you honestly believe that the Tories/Reform/Restore have the interests of the working man at heart, you’re completely deluded.
June 29, 2026 at 17:40 #1770418The emphasis on a ‘No.10 North’ based in Manchester strikes an increasingly cynical me as a ploy to boost the chances of Labour retaining the Greater Manchester mayoralty; the election for which is towards the end of July, when Burnham might already be PM if his ‘coronation’ is uncontested.
Other than that, grand plans spouted from the sidelines are easy, and we’ve heard them time and time again from potential PMs-in-waiting. Reality bites when moving into No.10, so I for one will let all Burnham’s preambular hot air wash over me.
