This will get the ball rolling wont it?
Why doesnt he mention the runner up though? Might even prove to be the best of the lot
and as an aside, wheres Gothenburg?
October 24, 2007 at 10:43 #121168Racing Post:
GOTHENBURG, who this month entered the equation for next season’s 2,000 Guineas when winning a Newbury nursery impressively for Mark Johnston in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, has run his last race for the trainer and is set to be transferred to Godolphin, writes Paul Eacott.
The son of Halling is quoted as a 33-1 chance with the sponsors Stan James for next season’s Guineas after his seven-length win under top weight at Newbury on what looks like being his third and final start as a juvenile.
While Coral go just 20-1 about Gothenburg for the Newmarket race next May, it emerged yesterday that he may have a prior Classic engagement.
Goldophin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "The horse is going to be transferring to us for the winter.
"After that he’ll go to Dubai and he’ll race in Dubai, where he’ll be aimed at the UAE Guineas."
Confirming that Gothenburg will remain in the care of Johnston for the time being, Crisford added: "His owner does not want him to have any more races and he’ll be going to Dubai in October."
After going down narrowly in a 7f maiden at Catterick on his debut last month, Gothenburg proved too smart for his seven rivals when dropped back a furlong at Ayr, scoring by two lengths at odds of 10-11, the same price he was sent off at when stepped back up to 7f at Newbury.October 24, 2007 at 10:50 #121171The runner-up would be the least of the 4 I could see coming out on top for the Guineas. The only bet I’d consider for the race at the moment is Raven’s Pass at 8/1. Fast ground and there is no way he’d be out of the 3. Seeing as I cannot predict the weather 7 months in advance, I’ll keep my powder dry for the time being.
October 24, 2007 at 11:17 #121175Rio would be one i’d be against DJ
I think race came a tad soon for him, but ground wasn’t much slower than at Longchamp by my reckoning and i find it very hard seeing him reversing form with all those who finished in front
October 24, 2007 at 11:22 #121178Thanks Gareth
DJ… any reason for not fancying the runner up at all? He did pretty well given his slow start and perhaps for being wide for a lot of the passage. Im open minded at this stage myself
October 24, 2007 at 11:32 #121180"……….But that’s what the clock tells me to do with NEW CHAPTER…….."??????

He gets it right later on but you think someone would have spotted that, especially in CAPS!!

October 24, 2007 at 19:30 #121282I cannot believe the bull..written in an effort to explain the destruction done to the locals by a half fit New Approach. And the failure of them to take him down. A month ago Rio and frankie came over to ireland to teach him a lesson at the Curragh. New Approach made a winning move that day that neither Rio nor Myboy could cover but it will be different next they said.In fact the RP said that Rio was still the Guineas horse if I remember correctly. So Rio goes to France and trounces basically the same stuff that Myboy trounced in France.
And the shouting started again In fact they nearly rated him higher than New Approach, somehow discounting his defeat at the Curragh. The wishing started to rewrite the record. Think what they would have written if Jim Bolger was not a street fighter who knew when he was being dissed. So Jim changes plans and brings New Approach out of winter quarters and heads for Newmarket with a half fit horse. Not a word about going or over the top or too many races just get it on man. So they all rush in like vultures ready to feast on the corps. What a shock they got. The half fit horse from Carlow made them eat crow instead and how they hated to swallow the result. Then the crying started, the excuses mounted. You would wonder why such wise trainers would risk their incredibly brilliant thoroughbreds under such bad underfoot conditions The best horse won they admitted but, on the day, on a drying out track, over a horse that had a hard season they said{once beaten (by New Approach) made a hard season} over a horse that only had one race, suddenly one wonders why they turned up at all.Eating crow does cause indigestion does it not?
He came he saw and he conquered with one hand tied behind his back.
Enough said.If Bolger was not such a trouble maker we could all live in Oz.October 24, 2007 at 21:20 #121300andyod
With due respect, that’s a load of jingoistic claptrap.
October 24, 2007 at 22:53 #121305As we say in France David "Too Shay and a dozen roses for the widow".
October 25, 2007 at 00:49 #121307Hmmm… is that a, to coin a U.S. rap phrase, ‘Beef’ that i detect developing around this forum?

Im not talking ‘crips’ and ‘bloods’ either!! …its much more frightening

Rio de la plata is obviously the better horse and imagine what Ravens Pass will do when they meet in the guineas, obviously New Approach has been extremely lucky and Jim Bolger hasn’t a clue what he is doing really…
