Ok Corral ran today at Plumpton. A horse i thought may be one to pose a threat to Santini come March. However, after today I’m firmly of the belief he wouldn’t get close. To my (very untrained) eye, he looked to be unnatural at the vast majority of his fences, stuttering in, landing very steeply, therefore losing lengths at most fences. I’m not sure how he’d fare when his jumping gets put under more pressure.
To be fair after his mistake, he did improve jumping wise, Geraghty picked up the pace, so perhaps he’ll improve in a better run race?
Anyway, yet another threat down for the monster that is Santini…

Native River reappeared 10th Feb in the Denman last year!!!!!!!!

I’ve been waiting for this thread to get going before contributing, not sure why, but hey ho.
Anyway I’m a huge fan of Santini, so much so that he’ll end up being by far my largest ever bet, every time I have a winner I’m putting 10% of the returns onto him, have been doing so for the last 3 months with prices ranging from 14s-6s. 14s is from between Cheltenham and Aintree last year in singles and the annual mug lucky 31/ 63. So could well be biased here!
Stilvi, as you say the Punchestown Festival race puts Delta Work 6-7lbs ahead of Santini. Why don’t we take Black Op as base for comparing. Santini beat Black Op 3/4 length, Black Op in turn beat Next Destination 5 lenghts who in turn BEAT Delta Work. Strictly on that form line Santini is much the best horse? You’ll say Next Destination was runnning over a trip too short against Black Op, so was Santini when he beat Black Op.
Going from the same chord Santini beat Ballyward 1.5 lengths in AB, yet Delta Work beat Ballyward by 20 in Ireland behind Next Destination
We can’t compare form lines as each individual race throws up different outcomes. However can go on what the eye has told us so far. For me, and clearly many others
Santini is the horse who gets us all the most excited. To my untrained eye he wasn’t the flashiest jumper of a fence but looked very economical, just what you need in the RSA. Delta Work has achieved more over fences to date, but has had the benefit of 2 runs, and one in G1 company. Given the amount of improvement we can hopefully expect from Santini in his next run, i’d be hopeful he’d at least match Delta Work’s rating. Especially as it’ll hopefully be in the Feltham so will be against proper G1 (perhaps G2 as feltham isn’t always the greatest G1 of the season) animals.Great race! Full marks to the Tizzard’s for their schedule for NR this year. Fully deserved win.
I didn’t bet on the race, rather just wanting to watch and appreciate. I do however feel slightly disappointed by the ground, being that Might Bite is the best horse, talent wise, but was bogged down by the ground.
The 7/1 available for next year’s gold cup is a great price IMO. Most certainly going in my Mug multiples for next year!
Just can’t stop thinking how impressive he’d have been on better ground!
Champion Chase Altior 11/8 win (Coral)
Ryanair Un De Sceaux 4s win (various)
My Tent or Yours 16s ew
Finian’s Oscar 20s ew
Native River 12s ew

December 30, 2017 at 21:53 in reply to: Mulcahys Hill – Welsh Grand National winner 2019/20 #1335088Only reason I’m this saying this is, immediately after the race all I could think about was him in a heavy ground staying chase, so obviously Chepstow sprung to mind. I’ve had that sort of epiphany about horses in future races only twice. Thistlecrack for the Gold Cup after jumping the last in the Long Walk, and Ulysses for the King George after thr Gordon. Sadly neither came to fruition but we’re pretty good shouts if I say so myself.
Regarding what you all say about Mulcahys Hill I definitely agree with. Hopefully the temperament issue can be sorted. Although I don’t believe he needs to be out alone in front.
I’ll update as and when I get a price about it
I’m a huge, huge fan of Reigning Supreme. He was one of my 2 novice chasers to follow. Have been waiting all year for his chasing debut, I’m very hopeful he’ll turn into a serious chasers. Hopefully his lack of experience won’t hold him back too much today although it wo t be the end of the world if he gets beat.
I seriously think he could be a Hennessey horse for next year!!
Agreed MoM. Think she’ll probably go off odds on. 11/8 is an unbelievable price, with Sportsbook by the way.
Gutted I have to do this, especially so soon after the terrible news, but if I don’t get this in soon, I’ll most certainly forget. Can I please have Jenkins instead of Fayonagh.
Altior
Douvan
Fayonagh
Might Bite
Nichols Canyon
Petit Mouchoir
Reigning Supreme
Samcro
Un De Sceaux *
Willoughby CourtMany Thanks again
Betting suspended on Betfair. Checked oddschecker and Happily has been taken out of the betting. Presume she’s now a non runner. No news anywhere else
As the NH season nears ever closer, thought I’d get this up and running.
Regretfully Captain Forez is staying over hurdles this year but hopefully that allows him to develop into one heck of a chaser in the future with a little more experience. I’ve snapped up some of the 26s available for him on the machine, and will be checking regularly throughout the next few months to see if his price increases at all! Out of interest, is there a way one can set up a market order (when the price hits a certain level or higher you automatically take those odds) through Betfair? Unlikely I know!
As with Reigning Supreme, I haven’t heard anything but have him very much down as a JLT type. Will try and get another price for him over the next few days, but can someone help me in telling me how I can add him to the market on Betfair?
Another horse I’m very keen on is Jenkins, I have a suspicion he’ll be kept to hurdling this year, already taken 70s for the champion hurdle. But I reckon he too could be a great chaser in the future, there’s definitely a serious engine in there if his jumping can be sorted out.
As I’m sure you can tell I’m a huge, huge fan of the Newbury Maiden Hurdle this lad won form Bags Groove, captain Forez and Pingshou. All 4 of these I believe will be Group level chasers in time
I’m of the opinion he proves he stays already. Admittedly he wasn’t a strong stayer over 1m4f last year but he has clearly strengthened up/ improved loads from last year. If he turns up I’d be very excited indeed. Regardless it’s given me great satisfaction seeing him progress into the horse I always thought he could be!
