After the Brigadier Gerrard I as very happy with my voucher, however I’m beginning to think my boy won’t turn up in the KG like I desperately need. All of this talk of him not staying 1m2f, I’m not buying it. Admittedly Barney Roy was closing as the line approached yesterday but they were both going away or at the very least maintaining their distance back to the rest in the final furlong. I see the key being playing Ulysses as late as possible.
As much as I’d love for him to step up in trip (serious pocket talk) I wouldn’t be confident of beating Highland Reel over that ones preferred distance. The only way I could see Ulysses reversing the form is being played a ls late as humanly possible, much like Kalanisi was against the original iron horse, Giant’s Causeway!
Either way the 33/1 I got 11 months ago has given me great excitement throughout this year seeing Ulysses progress into the animal I always thought he’d be after the Gordon. One of my favourite things about this game is, being able to spot a good/’unseen’ one a way off and stuck with it. Normally you’re wrong, either in talent kevel or target. Much like I have been with Captain Forez sticking to novice hurdling next year rather than chasing which I hoped he would!
Well, I for one was very pleased with how this boy came out and got the job done at Sandown on Friday. Settled towards the rear off what looked a sedate early pace. I feel he did very well to win from the position from a race fit Deauville who had the run of the race too. Ulysses was given an easy ride too and won a shade cosier than the winning margin suggests.
In regards to my ante-post bet for the King George, it’s someething I’m very please with, now down to 8’s my 33s with William Hill is looking very tasty. Not sure I’d want him to head to Ireland for Tattersalls Gold Cup as normally the ground is the firm surface he clearly relishes, although that didn’t stop him on Friday.
All in all I’m a very happy boy, and am looking forward to seeing how he progresses throughout the season. One worry would be, is how strong the older horse middle distance division is looking this year. But, we shall see.
Dex, Guineas is run over the same distance as the Craven
I’m not sure of how many of you caught it today but one of my horses to follow this season Reigning Supreme won in the 1st race at Newbury. I put him and Captain Forez up as novice chasers to follow next year.
He won nicely enough today from 2 decent yardsticks, with what looked to me a fair amount left despite the relatively narrow margin of victory. Hopefully he’s put away for the rest of the season although good ground at Ayr over 2m4f+ would appeal.
I managed to get a quote of 25/1 for both JLT and RSA about 3 months ago but thought that was too skinny so left him alone.
Any thoughts on him as horse or targets for next year would be greatly appreciated??
I did Captain Forez for the 2018 Arkle the day of the Dovecote this year, got 66s. Very happy with that although his form really isn’t stacking up to much these days. Hoping he’ll come out at either Ayr or Aintree.
I’d be all over Min for the Champion Chase, 12/1 on show currently is a great price.
Another I’ve been impressed with all year is Brio Conti, he was only beaten 1/2 length by Constantine Bay at Haydock earlier in the year, then absolutely bolted up at Kempton on Saturday in the Martin Pipe consolation race. To me he looked every inch a chaser and Nicholls tends to do well with these types of horses. I’d be very interested in him for the JLT.
I’ll back Melon for either the Arkle or Champion Chase the moment i hear anything regarding his target for the season.
Thought it about time I trawled through all my bets. Far too many losers so won’t waste your time with them, a few good ones have emerged, but then some absolute sickeners along the way but that’s what we expect right?
Thistlecrack Gold Cup 10s Alpha Des Obeaux RSA 10s double. Gutted

Moon Racer supreme 16s, Altior Arkle 4s, Yorkhill JLT 9/2, Death Duty Albert Bartlett 16s ew Lucky 15. The MR news yesterday has absolutely killed me, but very happy indeed. I had actually forgotten about this one!!

Senewalk, Jenkins both at 16s.

HousesofParliament 16s

Getabird 8s, ADO RSA 8s, VVM Mares 2s, Josses Hill Ryanair 8s, Augusta Kate Mares Novice 8’s Lucky 31 ew

Alpha Des Obeaux RSA 20’s – 8s. One of the biggest cumulative bets I’ve ever had

ADO RSA 11’s, On The Fringe 6s, Native River 8s, UDS Ryanair 11/2, Heartbreak City 16s County, Getabird 8s, Traffic Fluide 25s Champion Chase. Super Heinz ew. Very, very happy with this one, shame about Getabird not making it, but still hopefully a profitable bet indeed!!

Jezki 14s Stayers, Martello Tower 14s NH Chase, Mega Fortune 14s Fred Winter. EW Trixie. Very happy indeed, disappointed Mega Fortune was so impressive in Ireland the other day as was hoping he’d turn up here rather than in the Triumph.

Getabird 8s

Heartbreak City 16s County

Melon 10s Supreme. Laid off now for a green book as was worried about Moon Racer.
Think I’ll take up Sky Bets money back offer on Melon again though despite being so short.Tizzard to train Gold CUP 1-2-3 16s, not too confident at all anymore.

All in all a very happy punter as it stands, far better than I thought I’d done. Turns out the ‘fun’ multiple bets are the ones that seem to be getting me out of jail this year!!

Very good point. Forgot about AB.
American goes NH Chase. May help Might Bite get an easier lead mind. More good news for ADO
I have it on good authority from Harry Fry’s stable that American will in fact turn up here rather than the RSA. Currently priced around the 12/1 mark he represents excellent value in my eyes. Jumps like a stag and if he gets into the same routine as at Warwick he’ll be very hard to peg back.
Race target is ground dependant, if it came up softer than ideal he would be rerouted to RSA.
Sorry had a bit of a special last few days, brain not functioning!!!

Taken from the racingpost website:
JP McManus owns the pair and his racing manager Frank Berry said on Friday morning: “At the moment Charli Parcs is a definite runner. Defi would only run if the ground becomes very heavy, in which case it’s possible Charli Parcs wouldn’t run. Nothing is set in stone, though.”
I’ve already committed to the Arkle next year, only a small ew bet though so not too much to worry about. He’s definitely as horse I’m very excited about. To be honest more experience over hurdles probably wouldn’t do him any harm, especially how raw and immature he has been so far in his races. Perhaps if he does go chasing next year they may take it easy with him and miss Cheltenham again, to be fair that may not actually be that bad an idea if they want to take it slowly slowly with him.
For some reason I’ve been able to get prices about these 2 now.
Reigning Supreme 25s for either JLT or RSA with Coral, not tempted at all by these as very little value in them at all. Will wait to hear back from other firms.Paddy Power have offered me 66s about Captain Forez for the Arkle which I feel is an excellent price so have duly snapped some of this up.
I really hope Skelton takes it nice and easy with this guy, maybe win a maiden hurdle then one of either Aintree or Ayr, would hope he steers clear of Cheltenham. Although I do think he needs a little more experience as to my eyes has run green on both runs this year.
Sorry for not putting ew or win.
