    WOODS 4/1
    SNEDECKER 30/1
    K BRADLEY 35/1
    D JOHNSON 45/1
    HORSCHEL 135/1
    ENGLISH 150/1

Not sure how Big Phil can be 4 times the price of Woods  These are my 5 for the week. Good luck.

    Mickelson 16/1
    Stenson 25/1
    Snedecker 30/1
    Day 50/1
    Els 90/1

I take it you didn’t turn into the golf last weekend Pants? For the record he pretty much had the event wrapped up after 27 holes!

Woods is in fine form, majestic actually, and I make him more like a 2/1 chance. The only thing that can stop him is if his emotions get on top, but this is Tiger Woods mate.

He’ll win this weekend and win well – mark my words.

We’ll look back like fools come the end of the year thinking ‘Rory bleeding who?’

Evening Gord! Trust that you’re keeping well.

Bit out of season this, but just wondered whether you had a selection in mind for the King George (Decembers version of course). Some way off I know but you do have a history of forward thinking for these big races right!!

I know you were dead keen on Grand Crus last year and we all know he had a less than ideal prep. How do you feel about Dynaste? The way he wizzed round the Feltham bodes well and must have a chance given that Sacre is a doubtful starter and Long Run could well be on the downgrade next year! OR are you eyeing up something a little more ambitious, Al Feref perhaps?!?

Interested to hear you’re thoughts as always.

PS – that MTOY’S bet burnt a hole on your pocket yet? I’m going through more pairs of jeans than I can afford!

    Posted this in the

    General Sports

part of the forum but going to post it here too because I know there’s a few avid golfers among you!

    ——————————————————-

Has anyone ever experienced what I consider to be the most chronic shot in all of golf and possibly any sport: the dreaded shank.

The reason I ask is, you’ve guessed it, I’ve come down with an awful dose of them.

I’ve recently got back into the golf after an absence of about 7 or 8 months and my first couple of rounds were very good. I’m an 11 handicap and I shot +6 and +4 on my first 2 rounds back on a local 12 hole course. Since then however my game has got progressively worse up until this evening when I had my worst round I can remember. I wasn’t keeping score but I’d say you wouldn’t have needed too many hands to count my stableford score.

The reason for it is simple: the shank. My first shank was a week ago which I followed with another, and then another one later in the round. Today I shanked a grand total of ten shots, losing 8 balls as a direct result. The course I play is situated on the coast in high winds and desperately hard rough, so accuracy off the tee is crucial. I’m a relatively big hitter and I’d often elect to hit a 3 iron off the tee on par 4’s and 5’s, and used to be able flush my irons into the middle of the fairway every time. Not so anymore.

And it’s not just the long irons either. 2 out of the 4 par 3’s today I shanked 7 irons off the tee. Every time I grab an iron all I can think of is shanking it.

And it’s not as if I’m playing poorly in all aspects of my game, for instance I’m pinging my approach shots from < 130 yards and my putting has been better than it has ever been.

I’m going to ring the pro in the golf club first thing in the morning for a lesson, and I hope it’s something relatively simple I’m doing wrong. I know I’m not standing too close to the ball but it could be something to do with my swing path perhaps? I’m hooking a fair few balls too, from driver down to PW so maybe the two problems are connected. The hook is something I’d be confident of working out on my own but the shank has me completely perplexed and has really put me in a bad mood to be honest. :x :(

    —————————————————-

    Anybody else ever get them?

Hi mate – i’m a keen golfer myself, have been playing since i was little and i’m 28 ths year!!

I have experienced the shanks on many occasions and i can 100% relate to what you are going through, they are like a bloody disease!!

My problem is that i never know when they are going to appear but last summer i had the worst dose yet so decided to book a few lessons with a friend of mine that happens to be the club pro.

Now bearing in mind i play off 17 this does seem a little strange given you instructions but here’s basially what he said and how to prevent them.

The shank is effectively where the ball makes contact with the ‘shank’ of the club or hossle (where the shaft meets the club face). Now you may be doing something different in your swing but the cause of my shanks were because that during the downswing my upper body was collapsing at the hips (moving forward), forcing the club further away which results in the ball contacting with the hossle as opposed to the middle of the club face.

To overcome this the pro had me doing a simple exercise which was basically the reverse of the above. On the downswing i simply keep my weight on the back of my feet which meant i couldnt collapse forward. Once the shanks were forgotten so was this simple exercise and some good scores turned up!

The above probably makes as much sense as that Ascot form from last week. Anyway hope you’re stripping it again soon.

PS – Enjoy the thread, nice one!!

I must put my hands up and admit to a dozen of those views Gord! Its been a blinding read from the very outset and i wish you luck with finishing the thread in profit.

As you may have guessed i’m a sticks man only, so without wishing the summer away, i’m already looking forward to the Autumn and seeing what your Supreme horse is to follow. I have a feeling we’ll be finding out sonner rather than later. This years Supreme runner up is hopefully next years Champion Hurdler and I just hope Henderson doesnt have fences in the back of his mind…..espcially with the other JP prospect Jeski making his point yesterday.

I also see Boston Bob has drifted out to 33’s for next years blue ribbon. He might as well be 333/1 if Paul Townsend gets the leg up – another odd ride. Perhaps its destiny for ‘your’ First Lieutenant to win next year instead – ran another cracker today considering the ammount of races he’s had. I trust you’ve had a few quid.

All the best and best of luck.

This time last week we were all gearing up for the first race of the festival and possibly the hottest Supreme on record – now that the dust has settled i’d like to hear your take on next years Champion Gord, especially as i’ll be hibinating shortly as the flat season looms.

So next years condenders, which ‘touch wood’, if all get there sound should make some race:-

Hurricane Fly – Another year older but on better ground will he be able to live with the speed of the younger horses coming thorugh.

Our Conor – Sluiced up in The Triumph. Still an unknown quantity but clearly the best of the 4 year olds from this year. Will be intrested to see how he fairs on better ground this spring.

My Tent Or Yours – Ran an excellent race in The Supreme bumping into an out n out stayer in Champayne Fever. I’m sure he’ll come on a bundle over the summer and possibly use the same race route as poor Darlin. Will he learn to find a some off the bit? Does he need to? Is the hill really that much of a problem? Chasing? A few questions to be answered but i’m sticking to my guns, this horse is the real deal and i believe will start fsavourite come March.

Jezki – Again, the ground didnt help this fella. We have seen a blistering turn of foot in previous races and i have no doubts that he’ll be a live danger next year.

The New One – Looked absolute class last week. The race completely fell into his hands given the lack of pace but to my eye looks a real Champion Hurdle prospect with the way he put the race to bed like he did.

Grandueut – Likely to be chasing next year IMO.

Rock On Ruby – Ditto above given that i expect HF to beat both convincingly in Ireland next month.

I’m happily sitting on 66/1 about MTOY’s but I didnt expect 2 real contenders to emerge like they did in TNO and Our Conor. Should be some race this! :P

Well that’s it for another year then. Nicely in profit for the week, mainly due to winners from Our Conor (AP), At Fishers Cross (AP), Sprinter Sacre (Tingle Creek Double) and Siren Dainay (without Quevega).

Placed efforts from Hunt Ball, MTOY’s, Bostens Angel, Alfie Sherrin, Rule The World and Celestial Halo keep things bubbling over but a winner from that lot would have make things a damm sight better!

From a personal perspective my highlight was Celestial Halo EW @ 66’s in The World Hurlde (pretty sure i posted something on here a while back). He ran an absolute blinder and the owners must have been proud as punch in Bucksy’s absence! Im not sure he’d have won but what would have happened if he’d pinged the last?? I was looking at a tidy pay out i know that much.

Biggest hurdling prospects going forward that ive taken from the festival are The New One and Our Conor – they will serve it right up to the Fly in The Champion next year….not forgetting My Tent Or Yours who will come on bundles over the next 12 months and I just hope Henderson sticks to the Hurldes game. He’ll be a much more effiecient horse on better ground im sure of it.

Biggest dissappointment was Dynaste, you called that one well Gord – talking horse of the festival. David Pipe must be scratching his head right now with his stable stars.

Not a great deal to say about the Gold Cup but Bobs Worth is a little gem, thoroughly deserved his win!! Quick mention to Long Run who again kept up his sublime record of NOT being outside the top 3 – heart of a lion!!

Lastly, and most importantly – fingers crossed that JT makes a full recovery.

…..Right, 361 days and counting – better get cracking on with some Antepost stabs…………Oscar Whisky for The Arkle anyone? :D

Well Gord, tomorrow is the day. Its been an up and down ride the past few months and tomorrow the troops finally go into battle.

Have been looking through all bets placed since last March and I have to say at this point in time i’m really happy with how things sit. Generally i have some really good chances with a few really good prices. A few picked up from this top thread which i have no doubt will fly back into profit, hopefully by the end of this week. Anyway thanks for the input, fingers crossed we can get a few winners on the board!

Bog Warrior (20’s), MTOY’s (20’s), Rule The World (20’s), Bostens Angel (10’s), At Fishers Cross (6’s), Boston Bob (8’s), Cape Tribulation (33’s), Siren Dainey (50’s), Our Conor (4’s) and Dynaste (8’s) are just a few that i’ll be cheering home this week.

Quick word for Darlan – he’d be carrying those round that Champion tomorrow.

Anyway all the best mate – be lucky! 8)

I right mixed bag today – could so easily be showing a huge profit this evening.

Thought the Supreme was an absolute cracker. Although now quite getting up, MTOY’s was by no means disgraced getting outstayed on that ground by a horse that will IMO be contesting Gold Cups! On better ground he would have won cosily and i’m praying that Hendo goes for The Champion next year because the 66/1 im sitting on is burning a hole in my pocket, already!!!…..only 365 days and counting!

My biggest cheer of the day was the french mare Siren Dainey. The unknown french jock gave her a smashing ride and i was jumping round like a lunatic having backed her WITHOUT Quevega at 33/1 8)

Anyway its onwards and upwards. More of the same from Boston Bob and Rule The World tomorrow please.

Think its just a Triumph selection im short of so here goes:-

Our Conor 2pt Win @ 21/5 (sporting bet)

Looks head and shoulders above the irish contingent and jury is out on the big guns this side of the sea. Hoping the ground won’t be an issue.

So, little round up, my picks are:-

Gold Cup – First Lieutenant 1 PT EW @ 12/1
Queen Mother – Sprinter Sacre 2 PT WIN @ 1/2
    Champion – Binocular 1 PT EW @ 20/1
    Arkle – Simonsig 2 PT WIN @ 17/20
World Hurdle – Bog Warrior 1 PT EW @ 10/1
    RSA – Boston Bob 2 PT WIN @ 7/1
    Supreme – Melodic Rendezvous 1 PT EW @ 10/1
    Ryan Air – Menorah 1 PT EW @ 12/1
Neptune – Rule The World 2 PT WIN @ 10/1
    Triumph – Our Conor 2 PT WIN @ 21/5

Getting a tad excited now!! :o

Anyone ever used ‘NRNB’ to their advantage when claiming a free matched bet when opening an account?

Let me explain. You open an account with the incentive of getting a free bet (888 Sport are currently matching £80). Now that most bookies are going NRNB you simply pick a horse that is never going to run in a particular race. For example I could back Cue Card for the Queen Mother. Anyway you place the bet, free bet is then credited and later your initial bet will be credited due to Cue Card changing races and hosing up in The Ryan Air.

    Just a thought

Cant say I had you down for one to dabble with the wacky backy Gord!!

Anyway i’ve dived in and backed this ‘gangly’ Mail De Bievre without Sprinter Sacre. What i’d like now is for Finnians to be saved for Aintree with both Sizing Europe and Cue Card sent dont the Ryan Air route…..where they’d only be playing second fiddle to First Lientenant, everyone knows that right!!

Anyway, i know your portfolio consists of several JP horses this year and here’s another that im eyeing up, especially as he’s trained by Jonjo!

    Dursey Sound

is entered in the Neptune for which i’d give him no chance given the quality of that race. From what i can see he’s entered in just the single handicap (Conditionals Handicap Hurdle) and and you can get 20/1 with most bookmakers (NRNB of course)!! Now thats not bad for a horse that to my eye has a decent turn of foot, will certainly enjoy faster ground and has some decent form with this Mullins hotpot Annie Power!

Food for thought n all that.

Carlito Brigante will be the big irish gamble of day one and will get punters out of a hole after Jezki and The Fly get beaten.

Sprinter Scare wins The Queen Mother, everyone knows that. However, the market without the favourite is interesting and I saw enough about this

    Mail De Bievre

at Newbury last time to acknoledge that 11/2 is big enough, especially as Sizing and Cue Card will be heading to the Ryan Air.

    Sorry chaps, bit behind again!!

Ryan Air – Menorah 1 Pt EW @ 12/1 (Various)

I’m not going to suggest that his jumping problems have gone away but i DO think they have improved. Seems a long time ago since his Supreme Win but at least it shows a liking for the course. A tough race to call but I reckon a clean round should see him placed at least.

Neptune – Rule The World 2 Pt WIN @ 10/1 (Various)

I’m really looking forward to seeing this horse again. Has got chaser written all over him and this will merely be a pit stop to the very top. Gold Cup winner in the making!

So, quick round up of my selections:-

Gold Cup – First Lieutenant 1 PT EW @ 12/1
Queen Mother – Sprinter Sacre 2 PT WIN @ 1/2
    Champion – Binocular 1 PT EW @ 20/1
    Arkle – Simonsig 2 PT WIN @ 17/20
World Hurdle – Bog Warrior 1 PT EW @ 10/1
    RSA – Boston Bob 2 PT WIN @ 7/1
    Supreme – Melodic Rendezvous 1 PT EW @ 10/1
    Ryan Air – Menorah 1 PT EW @ 12/1
Neptune – Rule The World 2 PT WIN @ 10/1

BTW – anyone know what happened to Bozlike? Used to enjoy reading his posts. Havent seen him about these parts for over a month now!? :?

Anything that finishes ahead of Our Conor will win The Triumph. If anything that is.

My thoughts exactly. Another poor bunch from this side on the Irish Sea IMO.

My only concern about this Irish raider is how he’ll go on the better ground. Looking through past from, his worst run on the flat was on ‘good ground’…..worth noting?!?!

Someone convince me and i’m ready to take the dive!

Menorah would have more chance of winning a Grand National than Wyck Hill. I was cringing at every fence, suprised AP managed to get him round to be honest.

What are your thoughts on this Forgotten Voice. Was my only bet today, i was proved correct in thinking the dead ground caught him out last time and 9/2 was generous!! I dont know what entries he holds at Cheltenham but i do remember you commenting on the horse during the summer!

Also, Ginge, boring’ell mate. Give it a rest will ya! All this quoting bollox aint half tedious.

Been a bit out of the loop with the racing world having spent a week in the french alps. Anyway, we are another week closer and i’m sure there are plenty more twists and turns on the antepost rollercoster before game time!!

One that i am relieved about is MTOY’s sticking with the novice route. Sensible option and i’m looking for to a Champion Hurdle campain in 2014! 66/1 could seem utterly ridiculous in just over 12 months time.

I’m a lot more comfortable with Boston Bob having a second run under his belt. Surely Willie Mullins only has one race in mind, especially as im convinced Dynaste will go down the Jewson route. Your Captain may have his work cut out Gord!

I didnt see Celestial run at the weekend but reading between the lines it was a creditable run. Will he line up in The World Hurdle….im trying to think of other options?

Anyway its time to really start getting stuck into these handicaps…..3 hard weeks of form checks!! OR simply jump on the JP band wagon!

I’m really not bothered about this ‘Dynaste’ OLAS,he can run where he likes for me,I think

    Hadrians Approach

will shake him up in the RSA and I think

    Boston bob

    will P*ss on him!

    Celestial Halo

looked very one paced over 2m but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t run a big race in the World hurdle.
The best news of the day is MTOY goes for the ‘Supreme’ and that will make or break my festival!

Absolutely, its all about nailing your colours to a particular mask early doors and then having a bit of luck. It would have been a sickener to not only have lost Darlan but to have ‘discovered’ MTOY’s and see him go down a different route. Hats off to you sir for both of the above. I may well owe you a beer or two in 12 months time.

I was well impressed with this Hadrians Approach on his last run. The RSA looks right up his street. If i remember correctly he clouted 2 or 3 fences and Barry was lucky to stay on board, yet he stayed on and on narrowly beaten by an decent yarkstick. Interesting but i’m firmly in ‘Bobs’ corner and i expect a better ride from both horse and jockey this year!
