Look out for Feedyah racing tomorrow at Sandown in the 3.05, was very impressed with the debut run and one of my top 2yo prospects…..not that that means a lot!
July 24, 2013 at 17:31 #446401As the resident Francophile I can help out here….Atout can mean both trump (in cards) and asset, also virtue, or feature as in someone’s personality or looks. So you’re both correct

As a student, more than thirty years ago, of Longmans Audio Visual French stage A3 I can confirm that Atout can also mean "Advantage"
Fondly remembered from those years was the student who was asked:-
"Avez vous un velo?" (Do you have a bicycle?)
To which he replied:-
"Oui, Je suis un velo" (Yes, I am a bicycle)
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 25, 2013 at 17:18 #446483Gord you missed my question from last page or so you did
And which 2yos you seen this year you think be group one horses this and next year so far mine be
WAR COMMAND
KINGMAN
SIR JOHN HAWKINGS.More of a top 3yo he be much better next year over trip like 1m2.TAPERSTRY
AUSTRALIA
INDIAN MUJAHRAEN
BERKSHIRENot been impressed by 2yos from Hannon and Bolger
And any thoughts on this unraced derby horse from Stoute called
FREEMASON same owners of Telescope.July 25, 2013 at 21:53 #446493Evening Gord! Trust that you’re keeping well.
Bit out of season this, but just wondered whether you had a selection in mind for the King George (Decembers version of course). Some way off I know but you do have a history of forward thinking for these big races right!!
I know you were dead keen on Grand Crus last year and we all know he had a less than ideal prep. How do you feel about Dynaste? The way he wizzed round the Feltham bodes well and must have a chance given that Sacre is a doubtful starter and Long Run could well be on the downgrade next year! OR are you eyeing up something a little more ambitious, Al Feref perhaps?!?
Interested to hear you’re thoughts as always.
PS – that MTOY’S bet burnt a hole on your pocket yet? I’m going through more pairs of jeans than I can afford!
July 26, 2013 at 11:17 #446528Darren I’ll get back to you later but I’m very ken to see both
Correct approach
and
Prudent approach
from the Bolger yard.
OLAS,I’m very well mate thanks, everytime I check on my 33/1 aboutMTOY
winning the Champion hurdle I automatically think of you sitting on 66/1………..A good bit of teamwork there mate and he of all horses in training is my Banker of the season to win the Champion hurdle.of course I was just as confident about poor
Darlan
doing the same thing last year so I dont want to tempt fate! Fingers crossed and that.As far as the King George goes,I’m really keen to see a Gigginstown horse come over for it and now that the pecking order is sorted I believe we’ll see
First Lieutenant
turn up as he’s one for travelling over here.As for
Dynaste
Im afraid I’ve gone off him a bit but 8’s on the machine is generous for those who rate him,
Grand Crus
was only 6’s at this time last year!
July 26, 2013 at 15:02 #446539Gord how do you rate this brother of
Grands Crus
, David Pipe’s
Gevrey Chambertin
? Personally I like him a lot, physically he’s got a lot of scope and seems built for fences. He seems tougher than his brother, who before his career nose dived was often regarded as a bit ‘soft’. Do you think he’ll go chasing this year as I think he could make up into a decent RSA contender should he take this path?
Grands Crus
never did look an out and out stayer but I reckon this lad does. Thoughts?
July 26, 2013 at 22:06 #446583I think
Gevrey Chambertin
is useful Boz but I certainly wont go overboard about him,he reminds me more of an ‘Iris’s Gift’ than a ‘Grand Crus’ though, a resolute galloping sort rather than a supreme traveller,as far as an RSA sort goes I’d say No chance.I hope this
Shutthefrontdoor
goes chasing this year as he’d be an RSA sort to me.
July 26, 2013 at 22:11 #446584I’m sure there’s more to it than meets the eye as far as Paul Hanagan not riding
Ektihaam
goes in the King George tomorrow,he rides his retained owners
Mukhadram
up at York instead in a poor Group 2.Finishing 4th in the King George wins more money than actually winning the York race………Strange decision!
I couldn’t imagine Willie Carson or Richard Hills not riding in Britains most prestigious Group 1 11/2m race for 3yo’s and upwards and choosing a lesser race elsewhere!July 26, 2013 at 22:18 #446585Anything catch your eye tomorrow? I like the look of Baccharat in the sprint, Alexander later on and Sri Putra to chase home the fab and maybe shake him up
July 27, 2013 at 10:00 #446632Well if that forecast rain arrives at Ascot today it will put the mockers on
Trading Leathers
chances of King George victory and thats what I’d call Sh*t bad luck,it would certainly make
Cape Peron
a good thing at 4/1 though.I also like
Es Que Love
and have snaffled plenty 16/1 during the week. We’ll see what lady luck brings today but I’m still not sure who I’ll be cheering home when
Ektihaam
and
Trading Leather
kick for home leaving the French thing toiling!!
July 27, 2013 at 10:56 #446637I received a large brown package through the post this morning. It was very well wrapped up and kept my son busy for about half an hour getting into it…..

Thanks mate, it will take pride of place on the wall.

That French thing went off the 6/4fav and was rated 20lb better than anything else in the race by Timeform!!
July 27, 2013 at 20:26 #446698As per usual TAPK is busy studying for the Cheltenham festival,if I was half as successful the rest of the year I’d be able to retire, sadly thats not the case! When I get one in my head it keeps surfacing and tells me to do something about it and tonight I have done just that. The horse in question is
Shutthefrontdoor
,he’s a lightly raced 6yo with bags of scope and the frame to jump a fence, his form through his stable companion the ‘Holywell’ works out well and I reckon anything he did over hurdles was a bonus. This fellows not quoted for anything in the Ante-Post lists but my good friends Bet365 have given me 66/1 about him winning next years RSA,thats a big price for a ‘Jackdaws Castle’ inmate owned by JP Mcmanus.
Shutthefrontdoor
£50 e/w 66/1 Bet365 RSA Cheltenham 2014.

Nice work there Gord, that’s some price!
July 28, 2013 at 13:52 #446730Boz it might be something to do with connections keeping him to hurdling maybe!!
Or he’s anotherGet me out of Here
who just couldn’t jump fences………We’ll see,I like the horse a lot and expect plenty more to come from him,I’ll be watching his stable mate
Last shadow
too,No donkey either!

Oh well, a great philosopher once said "If you want the price to pay, you have to pay the price." His name eludes me now but wise words nonetheless
