Very rarely post on here and prefer reading what others have to say and have thouroughly enjoyed following your threads for a number of years now but I get the feeling that your not a happy camper at the minute??
The National Hunt is now in full flow (your bread and butter) and i havent seen much in the way of intrest from yourself recently. Is it a case of the wet weather bringing bottomless ground that is putting you off??
Anyway I hope to see some more of your intresting thoughts soon and that this thread can get a
P.S – Anyone seen Fist????
Well that didnt take too long did it – nice one fella! Some more of that came from please.
Had a few winners myself today so a pleasing weekend all round.
….Then me football team get drawn Manchester United in the first round of the cup!!
I live in hope, and its probably forlorn hope, that at least Quevega will challenge him in March instead of another penalty kick in the Mares race.
According to an interview with Willie Mullins today, the only way Quevega will meet Bib Bucks is if he travels to Punchestown.
How cringe was that interview with Willie earlier. He asked the question which was fine and Willie gave his answer but then he keep on at him for at least 3 minutes after that – it was embarrassing!! Willie then started walking away and he starts yelling that he’s a coward for running scared of Big Bucks, all light hearted obviousely!
Anyway, like Boz has already said, i think we have missed the boat in the way of a return to the chasing game, but here’s a thought:-
If PN came out tomorrow morning and said Big Bucks will now be aimed at the 2013 Gold Cup (clearly this wont happen), where would he sit in the anti post market?!

Unfortunately it appears that i am a much better judge of charactor than i am of my horses these days fella.
I have followed you in on First Leutenant for the Gold Cup next year, he really is a proper Cheltenham Horse this one. I just hope he doesnt run in what looks likely to be a bog at Newbury on Saturday, it will do him no good at all in my opinion.
Darlan is another on my radar although i did get my fingers burnt last weekend when he was pulled out last minute!! However, i did manage to sweet talk our frends at bet365 and managed to recover half of my original stake…..now we all know where that is ending up – Win Bet Champion Hurdle 2013!
Anyway keep up the hard work, the results as we know will follow in good time.

HC is hurricane fly OLAS if you aren’t aware of that already.
Obviously

Sure, I thought we were talking about Hectors Choice here???
Who on earth is HC??

Opps!

Sandown is all about stiff fences and a climb to the line! Personally i think Sizing will love both. It does him good to attempt 3 miles, builds his stamina for the finishes over 2m IMO.
No doubt they will have a good go one day at a top 3m race but all the time his winning at Cheltenham why change

This little double is abit of me – where have you found that if you dont mind me asking?
I made the mistake of thinking that
monksfield
‘s thread was a genuine question, which I attempted to answer. I realise now that it was just a sneer (as the title of the thread suggested) which I ought to have ignored.
He wasn’t interested in discovering where the phrase came from. He already knew what it meant in general terms, as do you, Prat (assuming that was a signature to your post.) And if you didn’t, my post would have given you a clue.
When you say "I was over the moon", do you think that literally means you jumped it? When you say "I slept like a log", do you think that logs actually sleep, or that you are made of wood?
So when a horse "jumps from fence to fence", do you really think it is meant as a literal observation?
These, dear Prat, are examples of metaphor, which is what makes language, and our way of describing experience, the beautiful thing it is.
And if anyone is doing the "patronising", it’s
monksfield
, and
Pompete
and you, Prat. This poster was only trying to be helpful, and has had his hand bitten off as thanks.
No, from what i read when i opened the thread was someone asking a guinuene question. i felt your responce was both patronising and in poor taste. I totally understand what a methaphor is and how it make our language what it is.
I apologise for the use of the term ‘prat’, i did edit this but unfortunetely was too late.
I have nothing else to say on the mattter to be honest.
So i will close the door on the way out.
Have a nice day
I find the phrase poetic and evocative. It’s obvious what it means – i.e. that the horse jumped with enthusiasm and expertise – and says much more than many more literal remarks.
If you start taking metaphors out of the language, you won’t be left with much, believe me!
Well i didn’t find it ‘obvious’ either and i can understand why ‘The Monk’ would feel slightly patronised by your own ‘rude’ responce.
I haven’t been around the racing game for too long myself and there are many phraes that i dont understand or find ‘obvious’ as you put it. If i didnt understand something then a racing forum would apppear the best place to find out a reasonable explaination.
Lastly, i dont think Monks initial question ever stated anything about taking metaphors out of the language…..
If you click on his username and the statistics button, it’ll tell you that he actually logged in yesterday, just hasn’t posted since 22nd.

Ok so this is my first post on here so go easy with me! Have been reading the forum for a number of years now and thought id add my 2 pennys worth.
What’s the general vibe about the QMCC this time around. Probably my favourite race of the festival and will be interested to see how the 2m scene goes this year.
Big Zeb got his jumping together last year and i suppose he’s the one to beat. Will he continue to improve?
Master Minded – Will we see a return to the type of form shown a few years back? Still a young horse remember.
How good is Captain Cee Bee? Does anyone know?
Which of the decent 2m novices will stick at this distance? Mad Max, Somersby and Sizing Europe sound like they will be going over further.
…and finally will PN leave old Twisty at home this year, surely he’s got the hint by now!
