Have been away for a week or so and abit behind with all things racing. It appears that i’ve only missed the Supreme in regards to the thread.
So basically, i’m in the MTOY’s camp. Have been for some time and taken 20/1 about the curtain raiser. I’ve even managed to get 66/1 to become next years Champion Hurlder. Yes that NEXT YEAR if you are reading Mr Henderson

Anyway, i’ve missed the value for the basis of this thread so i’ll go with:-
Melodic Rendezvous 1 pt EW @ 10/1 (sporting bet)
Think this fella is game as a pebble and a top chaser in the making.
Gord, short and sweet as i’m on the way out. Have been given a quote from Hills of 66/1 for My Tent or Yours winning next years Champion Hurdle.
Seems reasonable

A nice piece Gord. How fitting it would be for
My Tent or Yours
to go on and win the race Darlan looked to be easing home in last year before the first of his heavy falls. Thats what I loved about the horse, the way he dusted him self down and went on to run cracking races at Cheltenham and Aintree.
It certainly appears that Nicky has trained My Tent of Yours in a simialr fashion to Darlan (Betfair —-> Supreme), and to my eye has stacks of improvement up his sleeve. Very similar scope and therefore the answer to your question is, Yes, I’m right up for chancing my hand in next years Champion Hurlde, even this early. As a friendly face to most of these bookmakers i’m sure you’ll find an outragous price, drop us a PM with the best price would you

The World Hurlde is still a right mess and possibly even more so now that Oscar Wiskey could even head down the Champion route at the expense of our fallen hero. Grand Crus and Peddlers both blue accross and board, Bog Warrior entered over fences at the weekend (its been a bad week
) and no further clues to where Tidal Bay is heading. One that has got me thinking is another old friend of yours, Celestial Halo (mentioned in the World Hurdle thread). How fitting would it be for this fella to run a big race in the absence of the champ this year, 50/1 is value alright! As someone has already pointed out, this is probably one of the weakest renewals i can remember of this race….i’d say 3/4 will turn out to be top class, if that.
Really need Boston Bob to see a racecourse before March, I dont think that single run will be enough under his belt. However, i think he’s the real class horse in the race. Also got a feeling Dynaste will be heading for the Jewson.
Boston Bob 2pt Win @ 7/1 (ladbrokes)
I dont want to dwell on yesterday too much but i’m still pretty downbeat about what happened. Sometimes in this game you take a shining to a particular horse and i really did have a soft spot for this one. Ever since the Taunton race last year (very cheekily) i have religiously followed him and was over the moon to see that you picked him out as a Champion Hurdler! Like your good self i had some useful ante post bets on the lad but thats part of the game i guess. Some lovely photographs too Gord, thanks a lot
OLAS
I’m still gutted that we wont get to see Big Bucks go for a fifth straight title and can only hope that in 12 months time we will be looking forward ot seeing him again at the festival.
Wide open this one for me. I still have my doubts over Oscar Wiskey and will be taking him on (hopefully with a run) with a potential dark horse from Ireland.
Bog Warrior 1pt EW @ 10/1
So, we are now creeping into February and the festival really is not that far away now! The weather really has caused all sorts of problems this year, i’m struggling to think of a season where so many meetings have been cancelled.
Anyway this obviousely makes things difficult in terms of gettings horses fit and raring to go! Each to thier own i spose. Smoe perfer to get a run in between Christmas and march, others appear to get the work done at home.
In terms of your Antepost bets Gord, have you any concerns in regards to lack of runs. There are two that stick out for me, Boston Bob and of course your Champion fancy Darlan.
Willie likes to keep us guessing but having backed Boston Bob i really would have like to see another run before the festival, surely this is getting a bit tight now?! His jumping to my eye was impressive last time but surely another run would have enchanced his chances!
Darlan’s season has been all over the place. Are you concerned that Doncaster is abit of a second thought / last minute panic Gord?
The Arkle – usually my favourite race of the festival, a load of 2 mile Novices haring it about like lunatics! This years renewal doesnt appear to be the best, in fact like others have already stated we could be down to the smallest field ever due to the star Simonsig AND becuase of Jewson to fall back on!
Relistically the favourite only needs to stand up to win, IMO.
Overturn looks a better chaser than Peddlers but i cant see him getting the fav off the bit.
Fago is obviously unexposed, howover, my general feeling is that he’ll be better over further in time. If his second run over here happens to be winning an Arkle then we’re looking at some horse!
The Irish dont look particulary strong in this division. Oscars Well cant stand up and im not totally convinced by Arvika.
I’m keeping it simple.
Simonsig 2pt WIN @ 17/20 (Sporting Life)
Dissapointing is a word I dont use lightly, not only in yourself for not knowing but in the way this fellow is blatantly being placed to fail! Come March and granted typical Cheltenham ground (Good) you will see him running in the ‘Festival’ Chase again but instead of running off a mark of 155,he’ll be nearer the 145 mark and will be one of the best handicapped horses in the race,he was the 11/2fav last year around a course he has ran half of his 18 races around that is 9 times to you and me or 50% to the Ginger one.Keep it to yourself though mind!

Bit slow on the uptake today! With you now. What did you make of Imperial Commander? Ran an incredible race after such a long absence no?
I backed him on course Joni and he ran an absolute blinder But He wont be winning another Gold cup as 12yo’s just dont do it.My Colours are firmly nailed to
First Lieutenant
but I saw the Gold Cup winner yesterday and that was
Cape Tribulation
,I’ve said it many times before but the Gold Cup is a unique test for a horse,it requires an absolute out and out stayer to win it and most of those are actually Handicappers a bit like ‘Synchronised’ was the difference between him and ‘The Caped One’ is that one travels like a dream and still finds plenty, the other needs cajoling but does the same.
Cape Tribulation
is hugely overpriced at 33/1 and I’ve had a bit on today with Ladbrokes. This fellow is a different horse to the one I saw at Doncaster a year ago and he’ll be even better on Good Ground,he’s a horse I’ve always kept an eye on and after yesterdays performance he’s certainly confirmed he’ll get up that hill.I’ve sat and watched the re-run half a dozen times today and cant contain myself any longer!!

Cape Tribulation
£50 e/w 33/1 Ladbrokes
£50 e/w 33/1 Ladbrokes
£50 e/w 33/1 Ladbrokes Cheltenham Gold CupCareful Gord, that’s 3 you’ve backed in the Gold Cup now….you’re sounding more and more like that Ginger fella next door!
In all seriousness i give this Cape Tribulation every chance on yestersays showing. The 33’s won’t be around for too long!
What is your opinon on this years Ryan Air old chap?
Bog Warrior
had a lofty reputation OLAS,he was being touted as an RSA horse along with ‘First Lieutenant’ and ‘Last Amendment’ but I never felt he was a natural Chaser unlike the other 2 Gigginstown inmates, its only just over a year ago this lightly raced 9yo made ‘Flemenstar’ look one paced and like yourself I’d say hurdling is his game, that one piece of form suggests he’s a proper Grade 1 horse so no doubts there,I believe he’d stay over 3m myself so no worries again. His name however does suggest he’d like soft ground and from memory I dont think he’s ever encountered anything else but. That would be my only concern regarding him as an Ante-Post proposition. 20/1 is generous for one you could still call a bit of a Dark horse.Good Luck, its a tough call that one!

OLAS your horse has come out of the Dark and seen the light,he’ll be half the price you got now so well done for that bit of Foresight,he showed today hurdling is his game and he got 3m stood on his head…….Its just a question of the ground being right for him at Cheltenham!Good Luck.
I’m glad you were impressed Gord, i certainly enjoyed it. The horse clearly gets the 3 miles like you say, its the better ground that is the biggest issue. However, looking through his past races, and there aren’t too many of them, he has never met ground better than ‘soft’ and who’s to say that ‘better’ ground may bring out further improvement! I’m pretty sure that Zaidpour is a lot better horse going the way round he did today, so you could even consider today’s form is stronger than when Monksland beat the same horse!!
I do have my suspictions whether the trainer wants to stick with the hurdling game, im sure i’ve read somewhere that the Irish Hennessey could be a potential target! I know Davy has my way of thinking with this one, so lets hope the owners also ‘see the light’ and pick a race that IMO is there for the taking!

Some race this, just hope all the big guns line up! I have backed Darlan at 12’s, 10’s and in a juicy Christmas Hurdle/Champion Double at 18’s. everytime i watch that Newbury race i think to myself, what IF and HOW far!!?
Will be intersted to see who AP rides here as i do believe Binny has another BIG race in him, as a favourite of mine i’d love to see it, maybe at the expense of the above!!
1pt EW Binocular 20/1 (various)
Gord, this World Hurdle is in a muddle right? If’s, but’s and maybe’s the lot of them!
I know you have some juicy Anti Post bets on several Gigginstown horses but i’ve had one on my mind the past few days in Bog Warrior for this particular race!
Currently 20/1 with Skybet, entered over 3miles for the first time on Thursday – any thoughts pal?
THM, I see that you’re impressive list of anti-post bets does not include a bet on the World Hurlde and wondered what your thinking was on this particular race.
The reason I ask was because having looked through the entries one of the Irish horses that sticks out to me at 20/1 is Bog Warrior.
Now we all know the questionmarks regaridng the top two in the betting and also Tidal Bay could well be Gold Cup bound so i guess the general game here is to find something to take on the top of the market.
Obviously Bog Warrior has had his problems over fences and whilst i believe his longterm future probably lies over the bigger obticles the impression i get is that the World Hurlde is his big aim this year. He’s entered in the 3m hurdle at Gowran Park on Thursday and i’ll be keeping a close eye on him.
If he happens to beat Zaidpour then the 20/1 certainly wont be about for much longer!
Just a thought

Hi Blunkett, if you don’t mind i’ll have a bit of this.
If i am too late then just ignore this post

Gold Cup – Tough race, could make a case for possibly 7 of them, however i’ll plump with the ever improving First Lieutenant!
First Lieutenant – 1Pt EW @ 12/1 (Various)
Queen Mother – Favourite looks a shoe in, could well be for the next few years. Trying to find an EW bet is difficult in itself as its a lottery who’s even going to turn up. There arent many certainties in life but the favourite here aint far off it.
Sprinter Sacre – 2pt WIN @ 1/2 (Various)
As others have already said, many thanks for putting this on Blunkett, should be good fun and I look forward to the challenge!

Well for me that was clearly the race of the year – Tidal Bay is also an old favourite of mine (he won the Arkle on my first trip to Cheltenham) and i was jumping round the living room as Ruby cleverly slid him between the others as he burst through in the final 20 yards or so – brilliant stuff!!
Had small stakes today EW which i thought was a bet to nothing (never for one minute did i think he’d be unplaced) and has topped up the festive period profit even move!
Surely he has to contend in the Gold Cup now!
First Lieteneunt also ran a blinder! Surely he is Gold Cup bound, he travelled AND jumped better than Sir Des Champs! So what i will say is, another brilliant spot Gord, becuase this chap has got to to go close in March on the better ground!
We have got some race on our hands!

Gord, Merry ‘belated’ Christmas – a profitable one at that.
Turning for home today i thought you might be laning another of your famous anti post swoops. Grands Crus was going as well as the front two IMO, possibly better. Clearly the op took its toll once the stamina really kicked in. Anyway it was nice to see the horse return to some kind of form even if that was a mile off his run in the Feltham. Was on at 12’s so a healthy profit.
I have also followed you in on Darlan and how impressive was that today – jesus!! Coulsn’t agree more this fella has bags of improvement left in him and im over the moon that i had prevously taken 10/1 AND 18/1 for the double (today and March)!!
Out of inerest where did you pick up nect years Arkle bet mate, if you dont mind me asking. Do you think Nicky would keep him hurdling if he come up trumps in March?!
Fews beers tonight to celebrate a nice profitable day…..my annual boxing day treble also hit the back of the net!!
Happy Boxing Day all

West End rockers
price is contracting faster than a dilated Vagina! He’ll be 4/1 come Saturday and I just hope the Waters break for him as he likes to get his toe in………….

That tickled me and is why i love this thread!Ere Gord, do you have a ‘fall back plan’ for The King George or are you sticking to your guns with Grand Crus….lines through his last two runs or what?!
