A great idea by Cormack and excellently organised and run. Competitions like this, and Johnny B’s naps comp, spice up the forum.
I think we have demonstrated to those that initially scoffed that 5 minute systems can hold their own, and it has highlighted some interesting ideas and approaches that people take.
Best of luck to all.
Another nice Trainer system. I imagine that you will need to keep an eye on the changing patterns – for example if a trainer gets fed up with one approach and tries another. Or the quality of the horses at the stable changes.
Hedging your bets?
Peruvian Style or Cloud Dancer
Artemis,
As you conclude, with publicly available figures you have to be a little more discerning about your selections to obtain the value.
Best of luck.
Thanks for filling in a bit more detail. I will watch with interest.
I would like to applaud both Ian and Barry for expressing their views honestly. As a novice to exchanges, at least I am informed no matter what I think of the practices that go on.
I have had my account suspended on Betfair and I’m pretty miffed I have to supply all the documentation. I have an uncanny feeling they could use the information maliciously.
All I want are my funds back.
Anybody succeeded?
Awesome performance at the moment!
Is this system possible to operate without watching all the races?
Can you still write "stop on 2 winners" on the betting slip?
Can you bet like this online?
I’m just interested how you would operate this for real (after £2000 – from your original posting(s))

Artemis,
I suppose there are two ways to proceed from this point:
1. Only back those selections you consider value
2. Review your weightings, and/or consider other factors that the market is currently ignorant of.
JAR,
Before posting your system, have you had any prior success?
Do you have to enter all the details into your program, or is it based on a database of race results and declarations?
Best of luck!
Seagull,
I conjured a system earlier this year that was based on trainers performance for the current season, with a check on the last 14 days. It did quite well at first, but then started to drop away (I began posting in the Tips forum – the kiss of death!). I kept tinkering with it but it became too time consuming.
I echo Artemis’s praise regarding the detail of your posting outlining the method and premise.
Best of luck.
Artemis,
I concur with Dave. I have followed your topic thoughout and been impressed by your knowledge and ability to educate.
Keep up the good work.
Not only do tipsters fog the issue of prices, you have to pay for the privilege which means you need to be making large bets to cover the subscription.
Artemis,
Thanks for your reply. Before I read your post this lunchtime I did a little bit of research regarding racetimes and race grade. Your opinion is borne out by my results which showed the lower grade races can be run faster than the higher ones. This is not what I was expecting. I will have to think how I can include class into my calculations since speed is obviously not as decisive as I thought.
Artemis,
According to the results section in the Weekender, last week’s jump racing produced only 33 races out of a possible 84 (40%) where the horse’s produced speed ratings within 20lb of the RPR.
During the same period on the flat, 52 races out of 66 (80%) produced speed ratings within 20lbs of the RPR.
Can this figure be broken down into Race class or perhaps number of runners?
I am curious if higher class races are run more consistently close to the standard times, and a higher number of runners may also encourage a faster time.
Well said.
I have entered JonnyB’s Nap competition, and in so doing I am spending more time over just 1 race rather than trying to cover many races over my short timeslot for form analysis.
And what a nice wooden spoon it is
Lets see how speed compares:
1.20
Big Moment 196
Foreign Affairs 156
1.50
I Had A Dream 175
Honorine 167
Bowstring 155
2.20
Tom Tun 197
Only Time Will Tell 191
Halmahera 176
4.00
Fling 167
Sendintank 165
