Well, I’m backing the Fly but I was hoping to see a contribution from his biggest fan here. The chap who’s strapline is something like ‘if he runs he wins’ .. Apologies for not remembering his moniker.
Joe, i think you’re referring to (Martin) Irish Stamp. And as HF is running, then i’d imagine that he does think he’ll win. I wouldn’t lay him myself.
I think Diamond Harry isn’t too bad a shout at 4/1 e/w. People get too hung up and say he’s at his best first time out and all the rest of it. From where i’m standing he’s 10 from 14, so his trainer is good at getting the right race for him. Having Noel fehily on board is a plus for the horse i feel. I don’t think he’ll be a million miles away. Although if i strongly thought CC was going to get the trip and behave himself today i’d change my opinion.
I think they want these strict dress codes instilled for a few reasons. I’d imagine from a psychological viewpoint they think or know that people are more likely to part with inflated costs if they are dressed accordingly, from drink and food to various merchandise. I’d also imagine that places like Ascot find it more appropriate due to the royal connection. I was flicking through sky arts the other night and noticed a classical concert from the Berlin ampitheatre. Every body in the crowd was dressed casually in clothes ranging from hooded tops to bright polos and casual shirts. You’d have stood out like a soar thumb if you were wearing a suit. They all seemed and looked like civilised people who weren’t short of intellect, and most importantly they all looked as if they enjoyed themselves. I personally don’t give a damn what other people wear and think it’s all about freedom of choice. Although i can understand it from a marketing perspective.
Hidden Cyclone will give the festival a miss this season(confirmed). I’m not suprised as i gave this horse a swerve earlier because i suspected he might not go. At least they didn’t delay until the last minute until ‘they talk to connections’. Although that’s not much consolation for those who have already backed him.
I don’t know what to make of CC for this race, simply because of how he beat horses in last seasons Arkle that were beating him before then. I just hope that if he does run, he then runs well enough to get the green light for the gold cup.
The big fella hasn’t posted for about 12 days. I think this is the time of the year he catches up with some old customers fae his windy cleaning round. He takes them oot on holiday in January tae Port Seaton, knowing that the weather is so bad that they’ll just have tae spend time indoors
….(caravan doors). Either that or Mrs Kingfisher has just read an online bank statement. His absence is beggining to make me feel like the worst punter about here.Good on the Somersby backers. The pieces looked like they helped create a positive vibe over all the fences, especially on landing when he was catching his stride. It’s good when we get a few winners on the forum, because it means the bookies haven’t robbed all of us. As far as banter and people exchanging tough words with each other on here, what do you expect ?…the money is down and people have opinions….i’d be more worried if people didn’t fight. People need to stop saying ‘why were you banned’ and all that lame garabage. Any fights on here are opinionated and creative, and i applaud that(just the way i see it). It was good to see Somersby get that g1, and Hen most definitely derserved it. I will retire to my own thread now before i get kicked.

Tenner double on Zarkandar and Last Instalment. The reason being is that it’s now unlikely Spirit Son will even run. Hurricane Fly will be hard to beat though, but he’s not 7/1 all the same.
Interesting to read Hurdy and Zamorston’s comment with regards to reading what could happen because what the jockeys might or might not be saying in private, and the signals Paul Nichols gives out. It is true that Gerraghty does seem quite dismissive of Al ferof, but i don’t think that the way PN sees it. I’m kind of wondering if some of the relevance between novice and experienced chaser status is reduced a good bit by the fact that Al ferof has been jumping better than his opponents, plus he has toe to win a supreme. I noticed a free tenner bet in one of my accounts, so i put it on Al ferof at 4/1. I wouldn’t have deposited anything otherwise.
It’s definitely a race to watch for me, without having a bet. As Bosranic and THM have pointed out, even FPP could win if he runs like he did last time out, without hitting the last. I don’t buy talk of a weak renewal either. It could be stronger and more competitive than the last few renewals depending on how Al Ferorf and Finians Rainbow turn out. I don’t even have an opinion on who will win.
If she loves Britain so much she shouldn’t need a yacht for what she does. Man utd bring in many tourists, should their owners be bought gifts ?…i also suspect galleries and musuems draw in more tourists than the queen.
I backed Captain Chris with 50 quid at 14/1 NRNB for the GC. I don’t know if he could get the trip or not. I don’t think the King George answered enough questions with regards to trip and whether or not he’s good enough at that level. I don’t even know how connections are supposed to judge his next race. After all, this is a horse who got beat whilst getting weight from a horse he then went on to hammer in the Arkle(Ghizao)…so what does he have to do to get a Gold Cup entry ?…is getting beat 18 lengths by Kauto any worse than getting beat 10L by Ghizao ? ….i’m ok with backing him though as he is a horse i do like, and the risk isn’t great. I had a couple of small doubles for peace of mind at a tenner each Al Ferof/Zarkandar & Zarkandar/Capt Chris(Ryanair). I’ve also added to Dildar with 20 quid at 20/1.
I backed Dildar with 50 quid at 20/1 for the Triumph. I know it’s a race many people avoid at an early stage. Obviously GDC has mentioned it quite a few times, and Paul Nichols is looking forward to seeing it run. Aside from it’s flat record, i have another reason in the back of my mind which makes me suspect that this could be a good price. Anything could happen, but i quite like this bet actually.
As an owner its a pleasure to know that the number of strokes is limited. We had a winner, that was well beaten home and the jockey got ‘misuse’, the horse was in such a state it did not make the winning enclosure and had veterinary attendance.
That’s an interesting comment. I’ve read jockeys stating that the whip doesn’t hurt a horse. Apparently it just makes a noise that reminds/focus’s them of the job in hand.
I don’t see the point in paying anyone to think on your behalf. Surely part of the enjoyment of racing is picking your own selections and seeing it win ?….my opinion is(not that it matters for much) is that i’d rather give up punting altogether than phone a tip line.
GDC – you have some good bets there. There’s plenty of room for manoeuvre between now and the races. With regards to Hinterland, i wouldn’t write a horse off just because he appeared before Christmas. 3 of the last 5 winners have appeared before Christmas, and a couple of those continued on from a flat campaign. Katchit didn’t have a break infact, Celestial Halo went from the flats to start off in december and Zaynar also started in december. I think the last couple of winner haven’t run until later because they simplay didn’t arrive at their respective yards until later on. I’ll definitely keep Dildar in mind.
Superman: Just reading through your Festival bets, you have some very nice dockets mate, as a mad ante post punter myself I admire what you have currently
I have backed a few of the same so hope you win buckets cometh the hour
Cheers GDC. I hope Cheltenham can sling you a few bob also. I suppose in the back of my mind i have no set rules for these sort of bets, but when it comes to Cheltenham i have an unofficial strategy. I like to target the Arkle, Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup, and pretty much the races with the better horses, because it’s easier to know where you stand with these races. Other races are a bit more sketchier for me at the moment, such as some of the handicaps as well as races like the Supreme. At this moment in time i’d rather bide my time for those races, until plots and plans become clearer. If you take a decent price for a horse or two ante post, it can also make your hand stronger on the day to back the favourite in the same race for example. I’m not actually confident about my selections, as i operate on the basis that i’m holding a losing ticket until it runs/wins. I think i’ve given myself a race or two to work with.
