He faced an almost impossible task in giving weight to Osana in the Boylesports International, especially as the winner was year his elder, and I don’t think the defeat will have done him any harm. But he was beaten quite readily, as he was at Newcastle, and whether he has any real improvement left in him is open to debate.
A place would be the best he could hope for but with Sublimity, Harchibald, Sizing Europe and Osana in attendance even that is a long shot.
If Loughran didn’t check his mail, Clive, and there had been no previous dealings with his solicitor, then it is entirely possible that he wasn’t aware of the bankruptcy notice filed against him. I admit it is unlikely, given that any debt would have built up over a number of months with demands, final demands and default notices issued, along with likely intervention by the County Court (which makes it far more likely that he knew he was in trouble to some degree and was merely in denile), but stranger things have happened.
With the wage we can only assume he was earning, and his status as a betting expert (not to be confused with a financial expert, unless of course he has worked as a stock trader or adviser of some kind), it would seem that he owed a substantial sum. If we take it that he was only 6 months behind on his council tax, or something close to that, then it would follow that he may have fallen victim to the problem that is addictied gambling.
But it’s all conjecture at this stage as we do not know any definite details. More may come to light in the near future, but until then it’s hard to say one way or another. Nevertheless, bankruptcy isn’t a nice thing to have to endure, though its effects aren’t necessarily too restrictive (that is if you can find help in reclaiming your assets).
I don’t know as that would make much difference, Pompete, especially if such agreements were not in place with other bookmakers in the area (which would show that Calvert wasn’t so concerned with his gambling that he cut off all access to it, there being every chance that he’d have just switched his allegiance to Ladbrokes or Coral).
It is a ridiculous point to make, Zoso, because the doctor would be encouraging the addict and Hills are doing no such thing.
But should the High Court favour Calvert, how many more people will we get suing bookmakers because they think they’ve lost unfairly? Will we then see people suing jockeys because they think they didn’t try hard enough, or trainers because they haven’t produced the horse to win (whether it realistically could or not)?
Just what people will do in this country these days is beyond me at times.
I think there is a marked difference between comparing someone to a porcelain doll, which indicates a resemblance in complexion, and likening a television presenter to a pervert, which assassinates character.
Yet another TRF thread that beggars belief.
Most definitely not a thread for the archive…bury it already.
Having attended a number of Bristol vs UWE varsity rugby matches, I can assure you that watching 15 Dallaglio-esque women charge around in the mud doesn’t make for enthralling viewing

It’s a shame Andy Murray moans as much as he does, because he’s got plenty of talent, but I get the feeling he knows that and the anger he shows is not out of frustration, but pure arrogance. The sacking of Brad Gilbert shows how far above his station he is already, saying that he can ‘afford to employ people to help him in all areas’.
T*t.
The statistics don’t seem to be offering the full picture at the moment, but as Delboy once said apres moi la deluge…no, that’s not right…
Sacramento Kings @ Houston Rockets
Under 196.5 @ 23/20Portland Trail Blazers @ Dallas Mavericks
Over 184.5 @ 5/4Phoenix Suns @ Golden State Warriors
Over 232.5 @ 20/27Utah Jazz @ Seattle Supersonics
Under 208.5 @ 4/5Washington Wizards @ LA Clippers
Over 193.5 @ Evens5 x £28 singles
1 x £10 accumulator @ 29.3/1Another apalling effort, with the Lakers @ the Bobcats offering the only source of return on the night. It would seem those who couldn’t score suddenly found their range, and those who could just weren’t on form.
Back to the drawing board…
I only really find breeding information useful for debutants, particularly over sprint trips, and to gauge likely improvement through aging. Away from these everything you need to know is generally in the form book.
If the person who contacted you was ‘quite senior’, Alan, why did he need to go away and check procedures he must surely be fully familiarised with?
They sound like a real Mickey Mouse operation.
There is a marked difference between the qualification terms for deposit bonuses and the simple withdrawal of your own money, Jim.
Money laundering laws only prevent you depositing money with one card and withdrawing to another, without having withdrawn the deposited amount back to the original card. Under no circumstance should you be required to bet x amount before withdrawals can be authorised – in fact I’d suggest it’s borderline irresponsible to say such a thing.
Verasi was made to work very hard by a 50/1 shot, Adopted Hero fell far too early to know whether he would have troubled a very easy winner in Overlut and the other four struggled badly (they were done upwards of half a mile out so didn’t really stop to nothing).
Isn’t that Spanish for ‘on’…?
I don’t think sober translates to sobre, the way center does to centre. As far as I am aware sober is the correct spelling, though any budding Susie Dents (of Countdown Dictionary Corner fame) amongst may be better placed to advise.
How do we spell ‘sober’ in this country, Colin?
Absolutely wetting myself @ Turpin Green…
