Thanks for giving us permission to back either of the front two in the market, Bulwark…and here was me wandering if I would ever be allowed to play ante-post at 5/4.

As likeable as Exotic Dancer is – a Gold Cup winner in any other era – I just can’t see how he’ll cope with either Denman or my preferred winner, Kauto Star. The class the Nicholls runners exude is beyond belief, but I can only see the former setting it up for his stablemate however he runs (which will surely be to take it up over a mile out and stretch the field – he’ll be no good matching Kauto Star for a turn of foot).

Kicking King is probably good enough to challenge for fourth place, but to come back from the layoff he has had and shake up the likes of Kauto Star, Denman and Exotic Dancer just doesn’t look plausible. His victory over Take The Stand is hardly stunning form, and neither is a King George win over Kingscliff nor the head beating of Monkerhostin. He’s a place lay for me…the biggest of the Festival.

I don’t think a five-length victory over Take The Stand quite equates to anything Kauto Star and Denman have achieved, Corm, and I’d be surprised if Kicking King still had enough about him to trouble Exotic Dancer for third.

All placepot returns are – and this might sound ridiculous – on totesport’s website and can also be found, as has been said, on Ceefax.

I think Wille Mullins exercised his right to claim Ruby, rather than him choosing the Snowy Morning over Turko.

I quite like the look of the Nicholls runner. He has a tendency to jump out to the side on occasion, but he stays extremely well and was an impressive winner at Sandown (?) last time.

OK, following the logic of this thread, Kicking King should be 1/5 for the Gold Cup and won’t see another rival at any stage of the race.

It’s not going to happen, but a round of applause for me for having the stones to make a complete a*se of myself in public.

    Complete and utter nonsense.

And you didn’t just state that you were going to chance Denman having an off day and lay him, Zoso, you stated in no uncertain terms that he simply wasn’t good enough to lay up with the likes of Celestial Gold and suggested that a 170+, 2/11 chance should be 5/2. Not quite in the same league for me…

And as for the free education, I think we’re all set thanks.

Mordin must have been spreading his sensationalist seed and TRF just happens to have been the unfortunate victim of his frivolity…

Felicia doesn’t run and the selector didn’t offer a reserve, so does that count as a loss?

It was a decent performance from Master Minded today, but I can’t help feeling that Voy Por Ustedes might just be better suited by Cheltenham. He was running on again toward the end of today’s race, as he was at Sandown behind Twist Magic, and the stamina that the Champion Chase will draw upon might just give today’s runner-up the edge.

Having said that I still don’t fancy him to overturn Tingle Creek form with Twist Magic, and the 3/1 with Ladbrokes now looks particularly inviting.

Yes, steve, because anyone who made such a remark about getting on at 5/2 was entirely serious…either that or the comments were very much tongue-in-cheek, made in response to the ridiculous assertion that Celestial Gold was worthy of going off 4/9 favourite and that Denman was over-hyped.

Don’t take EVERYTHING you read too literally, old boy.

It’s just going to be one of those days, corm :?

Typical though that when quadrilla and myself exchanged views on our respective races, I picked the winner of two of his at 7/2 and 6/1.Luckily he agreed with the latter and we look to be home and hosed, assuming Glenridding doesn’t go off at a silly price at Wolverhampton tonight.

Care to give me a few quid on Denman at 5/2?

If you think Celestial Gold is a) a better horse and b) up to winning this after a such dismal return over hurdles, you’re one step away from a visit from the nice men in white coats. And if you think Regal Heights is a) in the same league as Denman and b) worthy of going off at the same price then I’m guessing you’re already in the padded room, rocking in the corner with your arms tied behind your back.

I love that you’re trying to use Keen Leader as some sort of justification for opposing Denman. Keen Leader had plenty of ability, that can’t be doubted, but he was just as likely to slam through a fence as clear it and became a serial underachiever following his Aon defeat. Shooting Light wasn’t exactly a no-hoper anyway, having achieved a rating of 160 before being pulled up in the Gold Cup and failing to stay over 3m 4f at Cheltenham after 8 months off. The race he was pulled up in before his Aon victory was the King George, where he travelled like a dog and jumped like a walrus. That hardly compares to Celestial Gold…

I might be braving the cold for a 7am tee-time tomorrow, so I shall post my selections now (though I may change them if I knock in a sub-80 round and am back before lunch):

    2.20 Ayr Companero
    2.50 Naas Oscar Time
    8.50 Wol Highland Harvest

I’ve just got this feeling that Mambazo is going to hack up, though the fact that Matt Doyle has napped him relieves my concerns somewhat.

It’s not that great a race in all honesty, and certainly not one to get too involved with (unless you’re Stuart Williams and have an inkling as to who might win), but I’d risk Dodaa given a chance to lead early.

His jumping could certainly be improved, but I see no reason why he should be any shorter than the likes of Muirhead let alone the other leading two-mile novices.
