Obviously the withdrawel of Mossbank is pleasing and has done The listner’s chances no harm, now 2/1 from 11/4, but I wish these trainers woud make their intentions clearer earlier. I never saw anything to suggest Mossbank might now run but perhaps I missed it. A lot of punters will have done there cash in the UK and surely Hourigan must have known his own mind before today.
On the other race Carvill I would agree Thyne Again jumping is a bit strange looking but he has never looked like falling and hasn’t actually made any bad mistakes. I think he’s potentially a very high class chaser but now I see how much weight he has to give the mare it’s a lot to ask of the horse. I would dearlly love to see him win this and go for the Arkle. I doubt if he would have the toe of Noland on a run to the line but he looks like a horse who could have an extremely high cruising speed/some engine as you put it, which could be Nolands downfall, plus I am still not convinced Noland will make Cheltenham as it’s looking more and more like they will only get one more run into him, if he stays sound.
In short I think if Thyne Again runs this mare close or beats her they would be crazy not to let him take his chance at Cheltenham.
Pity I’ve already backed Noland and Tidal bay as this horse could make me wish I hadn’t.
February 8, 2008 at 16:26 #141304The only thing you can really be sure of with Noland is that he’s got an engine.. Can’t believe you would doubt that.
February 8, 2008 at 19:06 #141350Yeah I’m talking double dutch there mate what I was trying to say was that I thought what Carvill meant was the horse had a high cruising speed. He doesn’t appear to be a horse that quicken like Noland can who I would refer to as having some engine.
Noland on the otherhand didn’t seem to travel as well in his races in the past and if he is still the same it could be his one weakness. I always thought he was a very green looking horse and was very please to see him travel so well in his first chase even if it wasn’t a great race.
If however it wasn’t greenness and that’s the way he is, then he may find himself in trouble in the Arkle. If he got as far behind a horse like Thyne or Tidal Wave as he did behind Straw Bear, who actually never got home, then I doubt he could win the Arkle.
Hope that straightens that one out
February 8, 2008 at 23:38 #141434Thyne Again wont be heading to Cheltenham.
February 8, 2008 at 23:57 #141437Is that for definate Luke or just your opinion?
February 10, 2008 at 11:03 #141875You get Pricewise 3 days early on here!
February 10, 2008 at 12:58 #141921Would TDK care to discuss why he’s been so keen to take on Snowy Morning all week? He may be right, I’d just like to hear the reasoning.
February 10, 2008 at 13:37 #141932What is the ground like now over at Leopardstown? ? ?
I heard that it was good to soft.
Not sure if that has changed.
February 10, 2008 at 14:57 #141945Think snowy morning has become a big talking horse since he was gambled massively for the national, since the weights came out he has been put in as favorite, the bookies are probably just playing on that hype but whether hes targetting this race or not is yet to be seen.
Im on Turko at 8-1, nicholls gave him a really upbeat report, and hes coming here on the nack of a good last run, looks like he’s targetted this race and nicholls is 3 from 3 in his last three races. I think the listener is very over rated, but hes the one to beat on paper, think beef or salmon has been looking very rusty cogged the last few seasons, and I couldnt back him with his better days looking to be behind him. It would be nice to see the old boy finding one more race though…
February 10, 2008 at 14:58 #141946I think Wille Mullins exercised his right to claim Ruby, rather than him choosing the Snowy Morning over Turko.
I quite like the look of the Nicholls runner. He has a tendency to jump out to the side on occasion, but he stays extremely well and was an impressive winner at Sandown (?) last time.

Just don’t think his form entitles him to be anywhere near his current price – simple as that.
February 10, 2008 at 15:45 #141957though i havnt had a bet i like turko for this today

February 10, 2008 at 15:49 #141958They are certainly backing snowing morning for a win in this race, he has some decent form in the past which might suggest that he can get competitive in a weak grade 1 chase, which this looks to me to be. I couldnt back him at his price and am already on one but the betting suggests he’ll go well here…

4/6 the result is used to boost Denman, and 1/4 it proves nothing.
February 10, 2008 at 16:51 #141969I thought the race showed how vulnerable The Listener would be in the Ryanair, and if he turns up there he will be a massive place lay. He got a nice uncontested lead today and made the most of it, but I didn’t like the way he jumped right and I thought he spent far too long in the air getting over the fences. I can’t see how he’ll get such a soft time of things at the Festival and also think he’ll lack the speed for 2m 5f around Cheltenham on anything like good ground.
Didn’t think Ruby gave Snowy Morning a very good ride. Horse looks a proper stayer to me and I think he gave it too much to do. Although he’s had every chance coming to the last, I wonder if his exertions to get there have told on the run in.

Dream Alliance, The Listener and Snowy Morning all "boosted" Denman’s form today to an extent, but he beat them all so easily that I would agree it proves little in the overall context of things.
It is surely pretty obvious to anyone with a functioning set of eyes and a brain that Denman is a machine that will take some stopping.
