BEEF OR SALMON SHOULD NOT BE RUN IN THE NATIONAL. such a classy horse who owes nobody anything. why risk his well being by running such a great servant in the national is beyond me. His connections should thank him for all the great days he has given them, and let him enjoy the rest of his days in retirement.
Shouldn’t
Snowy Morning (11) , Cloudy Lane (12) , Mr Pointment (14) , Bewleys Berry (16) , Butlers Cabin (16) , Simon (16) , Mckelvey (20) , Slim Pickings (20) , Character Building (25) , Point Barrow (25) , Chelsea Harbour (33) , Dun Doire (33) , Joes Edge (33) , Knowhere (33) , Nine De Sivola (33) , Parsons Legacy (33) , Philson Run (33) , Royal County Star (33) , Ungaro (33) , Vodka Bleu (33)
Run either?
All are great servants to connections and all face the same risks as BoS does
February 10, 2008 at 23:45 #142080I see Corals are ducking the winner in the Ryanair, going a measly 4/1. I’m with DJ on this- I think he’s a major Cheltenham lay. Firstly he’s unlikely to get his ground and may not even run and secondly as DJ said his jumping was iffy today- he ran down his fences like a horse with a problem though he got away with it being gifted an easy lead. My guess is we won’t see him at Prestbury Park and I’m inclined to hope that is the case.
February 10, 2008 at 23:54 #142083I definitely agree, I have thought for some time that the key to the listener is to take a head start at a slow pace on softer ground and just keep it (think the race today would have been interesting if the opposition had have went with him and not hung way off him), it works against lower class horses or horses that arent suited to that sort of running but he will not get his ground or his run of the race at cheletenham and I dont even see him getting placed in the ryanair.

how many of them have won 10 grade 1’s? better still, how many have won 1 grade 1?
February 10, 2008 at 23:57 #142085Thinking about it, lets do away with the National as it puts horses at a higher risk that normal
Thinking about it, lets do away with National Hunt racing, as it puts horses at higher risk than on the Flat
Thinking about, stop breeding race horse altogether, as injuries will occur, no matter how good or bad the horse is or what code it is

yes but for such a great horse as beef or salmon, connections should be happy with all that he has achieved and all the money he has made them

Alan Potts horse Salute made him £500
Should he not run him again and retire him now???

I can see where your coming from Shaund10, Ive always loved beef or salmon and much as it would be great to see him win the national (which looks fairly impossible off his weight) I would be gutted if he failed to make it to a well earned retirement through a death in a national which he never looked capable of winning. Sadly though, its the owners decision…
February 11, 2008 at 00:13 #142090its the owners decision.
Indeed and without those owners making decisions there would be NO National, NO Cheltenham etc
Without em – NO racing
If you don’t want BOS to run, go buy him from connections instead of talking carp on here

Well, its a forum of opinions, including pointless militant ones seemingly…
February 11, 2008 at 00:22 #142093I agree with you CharlieD.
There are always going to be risks in national hunt racing thats the nature of the sport. All this talk of not running a horse because he shouldn’t be put at risk I don’t understand. Yes, maybe if he fell every other outing but Beef Or Salmon doesn’t why should he be exempt from running? Come on guys the National is a massive part of our sport, its been modified enough we’ll be having cardboard fences next.
Horses have been injured and killed on the gallops. One could have a heart attack just walking out of his box, when its time, its time and its a fact of life. You can’t wrap horses in cotton wool any more than you can people.
February 11, 2008 at 00:30 #142095There’s only one way to stop racing injuries and that is not to race.
It doesn’t t matter if horse has Class 1 ability or Class 7 ability, the risks of injury are the same
It seems some are blind to this though
February 11, 2008 at 00:33 #142097I agree fully with what your saying flash but beef or salmon has never looked like a national horse to me, he’s not the greatest of jumpers, he’s never looked like an out and out stayer, and he’s carrying top weight, he’s been regressing in his last few seasons. Don’t get me wrong, he’s taking weight of everything else in the field by being there but do you think he has a serious chance, it looks like a stab in the dark?
You take risks to win races, thats horseracing to me…February 11, 2008 at 00:38 #142099I agree fully with what your saying flash but beef or salmon has never looked like a national horse to me, he’s not the greatest of jumpers, he’s never looked like an out and out stayer, and he’s carrying top weight, he’s been regressing in his last few seasons. You take risks to win races, thats horseracing to me…In answer to your question no I don’t think he’d be on my short list but then again so probably wouldn’t 25 – 30 others (yeah some shortlist I know lol).
I think the ground might be too quick for him anyway, would need Red Marauder conditions to win for me.
February 11, 2008 at 00:45 #142101I agree with Shaun, Beef Or Salmon should not run in the National, what is more he should not be allowed to run. But it is not because he is such a good horse. If it is o.k to run a poor horse in the National it is o.k to run a good one.
The point is BOS is such a poor jumper that he is rated with an x in Timeform.
So are Fundamentalist and Knight Legend, those three should be stopped from running, for their safety and their rivals.Ginge
Value Is EverythingFebruary 11, 2008 at 00:55 #142106I don’t agree that Beef Or Salmon is a poor jumper. He may not be a Tingle Creek or a Remittance Man but he’s not that bad.
As for Timeform’s "X’s" well I’ve mentioned many times what I think of Timeform.

Interesting thoughts and using those thoughts
Tried taking a Kempton fence home with him on a previous start , fell last time he ran at track
Kauto Star stopped from running in 2007 Gold Cup
How daft does that sound
