I’d also be a shade disappointed with Ruby had I backed Snowy Morning, but I’d be more disappointed with my horses’ jumping. No Grand Nationals for him I’m afraid, unless he improves his jumping drastically by April.
Also, why do they insist on keeping Beef or Salmon held up? The old boy clearly wants as far as you can give him these days (hence the English & Irish GN entries), but over 3m he still gets left out the back and is even more readily outpaced. Today again he finished full of running.
February 10, 2008 at 18:32 #141993I thought Snowy ran well thrown into the big time today. His inexperience showed with that mistake 3 out but he finished well. He’s a joke price for the National though- I hope it doesn’t ruin him: if he were mine he wouldn’t go near Aintree. Good call TDK, you must have got Corals your huge salary today!
February 10, 2008 at 18:49 #141994Well done RP handicappers imo
The Listener 2lbs clear
Snowy 159
Mr Top Notch 158
Turko 162Tissue paper between 2nd, 3rd and 4th on ratings and a tissue paper between em in finish

And you can just see the headstone being inscribed…
‘Goodbye Old Faithful Friend.’
Unless there’s a very good reason not to, retire him now.

31 Chases, 13 wins, 5 seconds, 4 thirds, 1 Fell, 1 UR and 1 PU suggests connections have campaigned him well throughout his chasing career
The Betfair Chase and Lexus show he is still capable of putting in 160+ performances
why should connections of a horse that has this CV not run him at Aintree??
These credentials give him more chance of completing and running a decent race than a lot of his fellow combatants

Given that he’s likely to be dropped out and that he’s such a ponderous jumper, can you really see Beef Or Salmon being at all competitive at Aintree? I agree he wants a trip these days and think if it came up soft at Fairyhouse that the Irish National could be just up his street.

DJ,
Competitive? who knows mate, how many are going to get round this year?
Only nine completed last year, if a similar thing happens and BoS is one of those who completes, would you say he couldn’t mow some of those tiring horses down on that long run in?

I’m sure they do – and I’m also sure that the likes of Dorans Pride and Persian Punch would agree with you wholeheartedly.

Yes Scally, great stuff
Did you predict these fatalities before the races? if so, can you tell us how many fatalities will occur in this years Grand National or at the next Wolverhamton , Plumpton, Catterick, Ascot meetings and the names of these horses?
February 10, 2008 at 22:39 #142066Can’t have Snowy Morning for the National this season either after that, just looks a little too novicey still. Just guessed too mush at his fences and look like he could take a howler if he does that at aintree.

I think Snowy Morning ran a blinding race, considering how he was ridden over a trip that was certainly inadequate.
Given the slow pace, I’m surprised Ruby didn’t make more use of him, but he was obviously ridden with another day in mind. Maybe his trainer has Gold Cup aspirations, rather than the Grand National?February 10, 2008 at 23:27 #142075He said on Irish TV today that Snowy would miss Cheltenham. He runs next in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse at Easter then Aintree.
February 10, 2008 at 23:28 #142076BEEF OR SALMON SHOULD NOT BE RUN IN THE NATIONAL. such a classy horse who owes nobody anything. why risk his well being by running such a great servant in the national is beyond me. His connections should thank him for all the great days he has given them, and let him enjoy the rest of his days in retirement.
