I was impressed with Master Minded yesterday and IMO there’s not much between him and Twist Magic on bare form. My main reservation about MM for the QM would be his relative inexperience. He may not be a novice technically but in terms of actual racecourse experience he very much is. He jumped well yesterday but he had it all his own way and dictated his own pace. In a (presumably) bigger field with the frenetic pace around the undulations of Cheltenham, I’d be worried about him making mistakes at his fences.
Of course, TM also has it all to prove at Cheltenham after his fall in last season’s Arkle, although another season’s experience won’t have done his jumping any harm. I’m also yet to be 100% convinced that he truly stays 2 miles off a fast pace at a stiff track. He’s a horse I’ve had a soft spot for since his novice hurdle days though, so sentiment hopes he convinces me next month.
Tough choice for Ruby if they both get there. I’ve got a coin he can borrow.
February 10, 2008 at 12:32 #141910Master Minded looked very good indeed and must have a chance of winning the 2 mile Champion Chase.
However, the Nicholls team think that Twist Magic is the better of the two at this stage. I think Ruby will choose to ride Twist Magic and will go on to win the big race.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
February 10, 2008 at 12:34 #141911IMO, Ruby’s choice will be completely ground-dependent. Good to soft or better he’ll be on Twist Magic, any softer and he’ll probably fancy his chances more on the stronger-staying Master Minded.
February 10, 2008 at 19:00 #141999Wath this space I will be back when I am sober
February 10, 2008 at 19:04 #142005………….can’t hold my breath that long!

Do they use American spelling in Thailand, Fists?

February 10, 2008 at 21:09 #142041Geez Colin did I write that?

Ok I’m half sober…I was having a think stop me if you have hear this before.
Imagine you are PN and a big race is coming up……a race you intended Twist Magic in……….but you don’t want him to have a hard race before Chelt and the ground is likely to be against him.
MM has come to himself and is jumping out his skin and you think Voy is fairly moderate for a QMCC winner……..you run the young horse and
keep TM for Cheltenham…….If MM wins and you know TM wants good ground you have a very good substitute.Makes sense to me and if it’s good Ruby will ride Twist Magic and if soft he will ride MM.
Does that make sense?
February 10, 2008 at 21:19 #142048SOBER………is the American spelling.
We spell it a different way in this country but if it’s spelt that way in Thailand I will forgive you.
There, aren’t I nice!!!

February 10, 2008 at 21:40 #142050Master Minded was very impressive – every reason to go to Cheltenham
and I don`t think Clive Smith is a man to shy away from the top races.I`d still have hopes for VPU – he`s looked a bit flat without being disgraced.
He`s a proven festival performer who may well have more to offer on the big dayFebruary 10, 2008 at 21:47 #142053How do we spell ‘sober’ in this country, Colin?
February 10, 2008 at 21:50 #142055Well, I spell it SOBRE, but I am very old and I do get confused these days.

Colin
February 10, 2008 at 21:54 #142056Isn’t that Spanish for ‘on’…?
I don’t think sober translates to sobre, the way center does to centre. As far as I am aware sober is the correct spelling, though any budding Susie Dents (of Countdown Dictionary Corner fame) amongst may be better placed to advise.
February 10, 2008 at 21:59 #142057Seems you’re right, LGR, apologies to all, especially Fists, I am even older and more confused than I thought.

Colin
Note to self………….mind your own feckin’ business and keep your feckin mouth shut…..you eejit……probably spelt that wrong as well.

February 10, 2008 at 22:01 #142058Just had a look at sobriety………think that’s where I got the idea from.

February 10, 2008 at 22:33 #142065Master Minded is prone to the odd error and, given his inexperience, could be vulnerable around Prestbury Park.
Have to agree really, especially as he has hit the deck in at least 2 chases at Auteuil. In both cases, the pace was hotting up and he was asked to increase the tempo, at which point he fell. If his jumping holds up round Cheltenham, I think he will go very close, but I think anyone backing him might want to shut their eyes approaching the notorious third last.

February 10, 2008 at 23:45 #142081Looks like the Racing Post are going 169 about his RPR.
I think any horse in the field could fall at cheltenham, Voy Por Ustedes fell in last years game spirit, Well Chief fell in last years Champ Chase, Twist Magic in the Arkle, PN said before Masterminded beat Howle Hill that he had done serious work on his jumping, and it has really shown on his last two runs, he’s looked to me to be the best jumper out of them in the preps. Well never know who’ll fall until the race is done.

Not a problem Colin I have to edit every post I type mate. It’s not that I cant spell I can’t friggin type and get letters back to front etc
Like on Saturday I hit the wrong keys and and typed Palomar and I was trying to type Wingman

What you don’t believe me
That’s funny when I told my bookie it must have been a bad line he said he never believed me either. Why are people so mistrusting these days?

If you look back at the post I typed Wath instead of Watch so I deserved a ribbing for that bloomer anyway
