I clearly remember the Sheikh having many second-string winners when he first ventured onto the British racing scene. I also think Prince Khaled enjoyed similar second-string successes.
As he began his pitch you could hear someone yawning and the camera switched to the others and the woman presenter was resting her head on Francome’s shoulder pretending to have gone to sleep. Then the rest just drowned out anything Mac was trying to say. It’s difficult to know their motives other than they possibly have heard it voiced so often.
Decided against kicking off the system today. Instead, I think I’d prefer to watch my selections in Bob’s competition and sort my head out ready for action next week. Today will be classed as a bit of a workout on the gallops to get primed up for when the money’s down.
This is ridiculous. January 3rd and I’ve not had a bet yet. It’s only £5 on my first column but I’m hesitating for fear of falling at the first hurdle. I need that guy Yogi to restore my confidence, I think. Maybe later today I’ll pluck up the courage but I’m a bit cagey because with two meetings off I sense there might be a few upsets. At least it’s a no win no lose situation at the moment. If I carry on like this by the end of the year I might still have the hundred pounds in my pocket. Bye for now.
Could it be a bit like writer’s cramp or tennis elbow? I would imagine it’s only a temporary condition, easily treatable (rest? poultice? anti-inflammatory drugs?) though possibly some horses are more prone to it than others. I would think that the type and condition of the surface a horse runs on has some bearing on matters and perhaps it’s more prevalent on a firm surface. I’m sure some equine experts on here have a greater knowledge. I understand Sizing thingybob had sore shins the night before he raced a few days ago and I was surprised the trainer still allowed it to run.

I hope this isn’t contravening any forum spamming rules.Nice touch by Lingfield today to make a presentation to her. On ATR last night it was reported that Hill’s offering 2/1 for her to repeat the hundred in 2009. Chappers on ATR tried to locate David Hood to ascertain the odds for Kirsty M to reach 100 winners next year but not sure he was successful.
And your point is, Dougal. Not the same Dougal I used to know who had a job on the roundabouts is it?
Cheers for your odds anyway. I’m not sure you’d make much money as a bookie being that generous. However, have a Good New Year.I seem to recall that it was much easier finding winners on the all weather jumps or am I mistaken? I clearly remember backing against odds-on shots in preference for something which had proven to run reasonably well on the surface. I think some of the winning distances, particularly on a wet day, were by wide margins.
That’s precisely the point. He was found ‘not guilty’ of tax evasion but that judgement is not being accepted by the establishment who continue to impose their own sentence by denying him a knighthood. Where is the justice and transparency in that, I ask myself? If he was declared innocent by the jury then we need to know who is blocking his knighthood and why? As for the child actors allegedly not being paid, I have it on good authority that they were given free access to the jam butty mines and could eat as many as they wanted and take home a tickling stick.
Matt aside, I think it’s a disgrace that Ken Dodd has, yet again, despite numerous petitions, been denied a knighthood. There should be a public enquiry as to why he is being blocked from this honour. After all, he was found not guilty but someone, some grey figure, is determined to deny him from what he richly deserves.
Who knows, Gamble? It’s only a matter
of time before we can purchase Matt mugs
and T-shirts, do you not
think? Only jesting. Though I am surprised he’s not in the New Year’s
Honours List.
Arise, Sir Matt. For services to lame jockeys and horses…..For what it’s worth, I think Celestial Halo is the value bet, bearing in mind how much potential extra he’ll come on after yesterday, compared to Binocular who I think has little scope for further vast improvement. When Halo is fully wound-up he’ll be more than a match for anything up the Cheltenham hill, especially when Ruby is back to peak fitness. Admittedly, Nick Henderson has had a brilliant season so far but I just sense that come Cheltenham the wheels will fall off.
Sorry to hear of your recent loss. Where did you come across that one and did it work out as expensive. An old friend purchased an ex-sprinter for about 3K; previously it ran three times on AW in all, latterly as a favourite flop. Think it was called Classic Abigail. Very highly strung, dislike of men and kicked out sideways and behind when least expected. I’ve still, after 4 years, got the hoof mark on my abdomen where it lifted me off the ground. Think it had possibly had some bad experiences. Refused to get in horse box after a trip to the seaside and had to be stabled locally for a week, only returning with the help of a dozen people to drag it up the ramp. If it was me I’d be very wary of buying from the Sales. Far better to get one on a trial period and get to know its personality, I think.
Many thanks Fist. I appreciate that the coincidence between what you experienced last season and my post must have been quite unsettling; I’m pleased that we seem to have cleared the air and you can rest assured that I have no hidden agendas. The bit about the Scottish croft was just my abstract sense of humour with no intent to question your integrity, identity or location.
Hope to continue communicating with you via the forum. Meanwhile, must go now because Nurse is calling my name as it’s time for my medication and if I don’t take it they’ll not let me out of this orphanage. Please Sir, can I have some more.
CheersOops. Last of seven. Fortunately, chose not to have a bet due to other withdrawals. Watched a replay and though he was well up with the pace approaching the bend the front runners were away and gone and I think Dane just went through the motions before getting sandwiched a furlong out and understandably he gave up the ghost. I’ll give it one more go when it next runs back at Lingfield and especially if it now goes handicapping having got three under its belt.
I’ll have 5k each way on BD @ 20’s please.
