After so many years of consistent losses, I’ve decided that New Year is an appropriate time to try something different. The ambition of this system:-
1) to continue to enjoy the challenge of selecting a winner.
2) to be able to have a bet without worrying about the cost if it fails.
3) to avoid going into the bookies and being distracted by other bets.
4) to put into effect a system I’ve sat on for years but never got round to implementing.
There is nothing new about my system. The cost, even if it fails, will be far less than my current expenditure. My starting stake will only be £100. This will be split into twenty bets of £5. Bets will be confined to odds of evens up to, but no more than, 6/4, with the leeway of any last minute SP changes after the bet has been placed. Each initial £5 will head a column comprising of eight bets using the doubling up method. If, for example, the first bet wins @6/4, the next bet in that column will only be £10, the excess winnings of £2.50 will go into the reserves pot to be used to bolster up any shortfalls in subsequent bets. After that first bet, if it wins, I will then move on to the next new £5 column. And so on and so on until all twenty columns have succeeded with their intial bet. If, for example that first bet in the second column loses then the system goes back to scratch and the process begins again. The aim is to reach eight consecutive winning bets in each column. By the eigth bet in the column, the final bet will not be £640 but £500, the excess £140 going in the reserve fund. Should any column be successful to the end, the approximate £1,000 will be banked and not used to bolster any losing columns. If, (dreamworld) the system succeeds in full then the potential is £20,000 but that would require 160 winning bets. It will not be possible to give forewarning of my selections but I will report honestly as to how things are going. I will not be having more than one bet per day. I might implement rules as I proceed in order to narrow down my selections or impose some self-discipline. One thing’s for certain, at the end of the day I might have saved myself a few bob compared to past years and who knows maybe…..January 3, 2009 at 14:46 #201224Good luck Ken, will watch with interest and a Happy new year to you.
Hope it’s a prosperous one too
January 3, 2009 at 16:28 #201244This is ridiculous. January 3rd and I’ve not had a bet yet. It’s only £5 on my first column but I’m hesitating for fear of falling at the first hurdle. I need that guy Yogi to restore my confidence, I think. Maybe later today I’ll pluck up the courage but I’m a bit cagey because with two meetings off I sense there might be a few upsets. At least it’s a no win no lose situation at the moment. If I carry on like this by the end of the year I might still have the hundred pounds in my pocket. Bye for now.
January 3, 2009 at 17:35 #201269Decided against kicking off the system today. Instead, I think I’d prefer to watch my selections in Bob’s competition and sort my head out ready for action next week. Today will be classed as a bit of a workout on the gallops to get primed up for when the money’s down.
January 5, 2009 at 18:17 #201730Well, not the best of days to kick off but there’s been money for Surwaki in the 1.15 @ Lingfield and the trainer sounded optimistic so it’s a fiver on @5/4. Fingers crossed.
January 5, 2009 at 18:27 #201733Hoohah! Hoohah! Well worth the wait. Good old Jim Crowley. That’s Column One up to £10 with £1.25 in the Reserve Pot. Next bet will be on Column Two. Not sure when but I’ll bide my time. Bye for now.
January 5, 2009 at 19:20 #201745Just a thought. When should I expect to receive my email from Ladbrokes closing my account? I bet they’re running scared now. Sorry, only jesting.
January 6, 2009 at 02:13 #201846Good luck Ken .. I like little systems like this ..
January 6, 2009 at 04:31 #201875Ken West Derby
Is it Derby off the M1? Derby County Rams etc etc etc
If it is do you know Derbyshire Yeoman pub by the ring round?
Used that pub a lot let me park up an artic in the car park have a few beers and go and see my mate Rosalind!
Happy Days!
January 6, 2009 at 05:12 #201877Sorry, Seagull. Miles off target. That said, I suspect you’re one of Ladbrokes hitmen coming to take me out before I take them to the cleaners. However, Rosalind seems interesting, so if Ladbrokes want me to abandon my system perhaps we could negotiate something with a few Rosalinds as my payoff.
On the other hand, maybe my initial success, £6.25, is making me a little paranoid.
Cheers.January 7, 2009 at 02:02 #202058Ken, is it West Derby, Liverpool?
I got married in the Registry Office in West Derby Road and we had our ‘reception’ in the pub down the road next to the Petrol Station before heading off down Matthew Street.
As I remember the loo roll for the ‘Ladies’ was kept behind the bar and the Mother-in-Law had to ask for it before she went……:D
I’ve never been in her good books.
January 7, 2009 at 02:38 #202074Thanks Pompete, but I doubt if many have heard of West Derby in the Bahamas. It’s a one mile square piece of real estate surrounded by clear blue water. The sun beats down most days and I rarely move away from the beach other than to judge the local beauty competitions and watch the ladies beachball league.
However, a long time ago I did pass the Registry office you mention and am familiar with Matthew Street where I played a few gigs before making it big in the States.
Hope your marriage was as successful as I’ve been over the years.
I must admit Ladbrokes seem pretty determined to locate me considering all these posts I receive about where I’m based.
Now, if my partially successful system continues to attract this much interest then I think I should consider appointing a PR officer – is Max Clifford available?
p.s. there’s a recycled toilet roll in the post to you, with my compliments.
Cheers PompJanuary 7, 2009 at 15:01 #202156Patience is the name of the game. Since my first bet went in I’ve missed a couple of likely candidates but I’m not downhearted. My big mistake would be to try finding one every day but I’m determined to keep a calm head and strike only when it feels right. Seven days into the new year and I’ve only had one bet – unprecedented. From the outset I’ve thought that it’s going to take a lot of time and patience to see this through. I realise that others might get bored with this wait and see approach but this is not just about testing the system out it’s also about me having to undergo a radical change in my betting behaviour. So please bear with me whilst I take my time in planning my next big coup on Column Two.
CheersJanuary 8, 2009 at 19:07 #202533He who hesitates and all that. Should have acted whilst still odds against but the price of Silvanus (1.55 Gt.L. but scheduled for 2.05) is now just odds on and therefore outside of my criteria. However too foggy for comfort.
Now I hear false start. Swerve.January 8, 2009 at 19:19 #202538Grateful it went to odds on, then there was a false start and to top it all the fog made viewing almost impossible. The omens for not betting were spot on. From the little to be seen it was never going like a good thing. I live to fight another day. Give Leighs a miss today.
