What is this Forum coming to? First we had Nathan Hughes publishing his Escort Agency telephone number on Bob Rolf’s Competition Section, under Daylight Cup Quarter Final Draw, and now we have BurroughHillLad promoting his girlfriend’s glamour modelling career. It’s only a matter of time before Cormack gets in on the act by advertising massage services.
Well, I never! That Graysoncolumn is a very dapper looking guy, isn’t he? Has all the hallmarks of a well-read and sophisticated gent.
Chicken and Egg syndrome, I suspect.
Let’s not forget that the majority of punters who backed either filly will be well pleased with the outcome. After all, most bookies in the High Street pay out on First Past The Post. To announce a stewards enquiry and their decision prior to any photo result would probably mean the end of FPTP.But, look on the positive side. It will have done wonders for the Entente Cordiale between France and Great Britain and makes up for that dastardly mistake years ago which resulted in HRH Agha Khan’s decision to remove his horses across the Channel.
Perhaps more French trainers will be encouraged to bring over their horses in the belief that they’ll be treated fairly by our stewards.
I believe that had the placings not been reversed the long-term implications for British runners in France would be far worse and the French press would be ever so slightly more disparaging of our raiders over there.
Swings and roundabouts. Comme ci comme ca.Cormack wrote…All parties can march on to another day.
Well, not exactly, Cormack. An innocent slip of the tongue I suspect.
Bob, surely my five successive weeks without a point deserves a special category? Perhaps champion lay person?
Sorry Moehat but I think you might be mistaken in your reading of events.
Queally was running in a fairly straight line and had his whip in his right hand. When he saw the challenge he gave a little jink on the reigns which made a slight veer to the right even worse. Instead of persevering with his whip in the right hand he decided to increase the momentum of his horse onto the eventual winner by switching his whip to the left hand and thus causing an even more pronounced drift. He did nothing wrong insofar as he tried his utmost to win but by foul means rather than fair.I think much depends upon two factors. One is your IP address. Depending upon your Internet Service Provider you may have a static IP number regardless of how often you connect or disconnect to the internet. With the likes of BT, each time you disconnect your internet connection and reconnect minutes or hours later you are then allocated another IP number taken from a pool of numbers. So when you disconnect your IP number goes back into the pool and is picked up by someone else re-connecting. With the likes of Virgin you get a static number which rarely changes though I understand you can request to change it. If you want to check your IP number visit WHOIS and click on ‘what is my IP’ then when you’ve noted the number that appears, disconnect from the internet and re-connect and then visit WHOIS again. The number should be different if you are on a non-static IP protocol.

Not sure if that helps?
KMr Wilson wrote …This was a complete disaster
No, Mr Wilson. The oil spillage in America is a disaster. What you see as a complete disaster is just a minor hiccup in life’s day to day happenings.
For God’s sake Mr. Wilson, are you coming or going? One minute you are saying your goodbyes and the next you’re posting again. Hopefully, you’ll stay around to learn a bit more about the game but if you decide to leave us then please close the door quietly on the way out.
I think the thing that most concerned me today was Henry Cecil’s interview. I know he’s renowned for being a man of few words but I detected something about him today in terms of his mental agility which is slightly concerning for his well-being.
But "unsavoury character" Ken, that’s a bit strong
Oh, okay then, I’m just jealous of that mop of curly hair.
As for Jimbo, he reminds me of that kid at school who would always run to the teacher, saying, "Please Miss, Ken’s been trying to kiss the girls again and he’s pinching their bottoms." You know the type.
No doubt Mr. Wilson will be suggesting that some of the local winning stables sent their staff in overnight armed with buckets of water.
I’m far from convinced that Queally’s actions were unintentional. I think he realised he was being done and decided that a drift might stop the winner’s momentum. I don’t blame him for that, it was his only option and he had to take his chance that he wouldn’t be demoted. We see professional fouls all the time in football and some are penalised and some not. On this occasion he tried to block the winner and paid the price. C’est la vie.
I agree with Joncol. Poor show by Francome. Far too aggressive in voicing his opinion on the matter and lacking a touch of humility in failing to show any respect for Jimbo’s opinion.
The fact is Francome, whatever your stuck-up-your-own- backside opinion is worth you, yes you, called it wrong. The stewards called it fairly. As the winning jockey said, "I was just coming to win the race when my horse was struck into."
You may have been "the greatest jockey" but that doesn’t entitle you to dismiss other people’s opinions as arrogantly as you do. Personally, I’ve always found you to be a big-head and somewhat unsavoury character.Hi Everyone,
I withdraw this thread unconditionally and with apologies.
I went to Huntington last night and it was a great and enjoyable experience.
A normal 450 crowd was up to 3,000. We were entertained with some good racing action, a brilliant performance by Thommo assisted by some great interviews with Andrew Thornton ….highly articulate and ‘giving’ plus Tony McCoy having flown in from Hereford.
I saw no drunken rowdiness, just pleasant people of all ages and backgrounds out to enjoy themselves. Even the weather didn’t dampen events too much.
I’m not sure if backing the biggest priced winner of the night clouded my judgement but as I responded to the market researcher, along with most others apparently, we’d more than go again as paying customers if it was about a fiver admission.
Even though I’m only half an hour’s drive away I probably wouldn’t have gone along but as it was a freebie it was well worth the effort and I’ll certainly attend the next meeting as a paying customer. So, RFC has acquired at least one convert.

8 There are several versions, one is that Joseph, an orphan boy, belonged to a wandering tribe and was left in charge of a flock of sheep. He fell asleep and some of the sheep escaped. Another version is that he was wrongly accused of stealing sheep. Filled with remorse at his failing he hanged himself.
The grave goes back at least to the early 20th c and may well be older than that. It has always been tended by some person or persons, and flowers are nearly always on the grave. They were always believed to have been put there by the kindness of passing gypsy folk, but how they get there or who puts them there is a mystery to most. Another less likely story is that the colour of the flowers can predict the winning colours at the next big race at Newmarket.
The grave is by the crossroads about a mile along the road to Newmarket coming from the village of Kentford.9 Nureyev finished the 2,000 Guineas first, but was moved to last place following a Stewards’ inquiry.

20 Sausage. The origins of the Newmarket Sausage date back to the 19th century when Grant Powter’s great grandfather William Harper set up his butchers shop in the town. By the early 20th century the sausage was being taken home as a souvenir by visitors to the Newmarket races. Indeed, it has been given as a traditional prize since 1952 by Powters to the winning jockeys of the country’s oldest horse race, the Newmarket Town Plate, started by King Charles ii in 1665 and jointly sponsored by Powters to this day.
Thanks Jinny J. Very interesting set of questions.
