Two horses I’ve been waiting to reappear are entered this week. One is entered to run on the 3rd and the other on the 5th. Both finished with plenty in hand. I’ll name them on the morning of their races and if you then look at the ATR race replays you’ll understand my confidence. Meanwhile, avoid odds-on favourites on Mondays. Surveys show that, given the choice, most horses would prefer to have a lie-in on Mondays.

Despite the fact that a few of us shout "whip it" "whip it" when we’re in a driving finish, I think the majority of us do share some compassion towards the long-term well-being of horses. Inglis’s demise strikes the same chords as ‘Spot The Difference’ when many of us were desperate for its owners not to go to the well once too often.

Ever had one of those weeks? Firstly, I suggest to At The Races that following Henderson’s flops mid-week the stable may have peaked or perhaps suffering with a virus. Silly me.
Then all week I’m proffering the thought to all and sundry that David Pipe was probably going to strike a rich vein of form soon; and chose today of all days to not have a bet, despite selecting his three winners 12/1;11/2;25/1) and noticing that Maison was available at 50/1 at one time.
I think I need to lie down in a darkened room for a while.

Sorry! When I saw the title of this post I thought it was a reference to the Kieran Fallon post. Oops!

It’s stressful enough when you’re having a bad run but then these things happen to lighten your day:-
    1) Staff decide to go outside for a smoke, leaving one colleague on the till just a minute away from the off and you end up at the back of a queue with those in front asking for a price on a one pound bet with most of the field in the stalls.
    2) The Manager and Deputy having a day off and leaving the youngsters in charge who see this as an opportunity to be permanently attached to their mobile phones sending texts to all their mates.
    3) Someone who hasn’t a clue about racing pinning-up the main meeting’s form on the board with the worst possible access for more than one customer and giving the night meeting at Timbuctoo pride of place in the shop.
4)Punters who, knowing there’s a queue behind them decide to have a social chit-chat with staff and think female staff appreciate sexist jokes.

Even though there are those who thought he was a ‘big mouth’ at least he had a big brain to go with it. It would be a travesty if he reappears on our screens fronting the likes of the shopping channel or quiz call.

    Re: Barry Dennis and ‘class’.
Heard this one recently:- If you go to work and your name is on the front of the building you’re upper class. If you go to work and your name is on one of the doors inside the building you’re middle class. If you go to work and you wear your name on your shirt then you’re working class.

The last time I saw Matt on ATR he concluded his slot by reading out a prepared public apology relating to an Irish jockey with the initials KC.
I was puzzled that he referred to this jockey as Mister K….. C….. and I presumed the Mister indicated that it was an amateur jockey but then Matt stated that…. he accepted that the ride this man gave to a particular horse was professional.
Question: Can an amateur jockey be described as riding professionally? It just seems a contradiction in terms.
Shortly after, I received an email from Matt in answer to my earlier enquiry as to when he was next doing an evening shift. His response was that he doubted whether he would be doing anymore.
I had hoped he was on ‘garden leave’ because he’s a talent that deserves to be on our screens. Whatever he might have said out of place, it can’t be anywhere near the enormity of a certain highly overpaid BBC personality who finds humour in leaving offensive messages on phone answering machines. Matt make yourself known. Where are you?
