But "unsavoury character" Ken, that’s a bit strong
Oh, okay then, I’m just jealous of that mop of curly hair.
As for Jimbo, he reminds me of that kid at school who would always run to the teacher, saying, "Please Miss, Ken’s been trying to kiss the girls again and he’s pinching their bottoms." You know the type.
I hope you"re not suggesting Jimbo would rather you pinch his!
May 2, 2010 at 21:35 #293791The pair were upsides for the best part of 2 furlongs, don’t think the Cecil horse was ever headed. The French horse if good enough had plenty opportunity to go past but didn’t. Who’s to say that if Cecil’s horse had kept straight it would have won further.
May 2, 2010 at 21:39 #293795Talking of Jimbo – he had a very nice winner today at Hamilton. Fibs and Flannel was the beast, won with plenty in hand and could very well follow up if out quickly.
May 2, 2010 at 21:43 #293796On JF – he does get the odd daft idea and then sticks to it like glue but in general he’s extremely knowledgable and I always listen when he has an opinion on a horse.
May 2, 2010 at 21:52 #293799I place plenty of credence on Francombe’s comments.
I don’t think SD ever got past Cecil’s runner and he wasn’t carried across the track…maybe half of it at most.
Feel very sorry for Jacq who was always finding more than SD IMHO and was on top at the line.
I was really surprised when the stewards reversed the placings – Matt Chapman was right, something wrong there, surely?

May 3, 2010 at 08:18 #293841But, look on the positive side. It will have done wonders for the Entente Cordiale between France and Great Britain and makes up for that dastardly mistake years ago which resulted in HRH Agha Khan’s decision to remove his horses across the Channel.
Perhaps more French trainers will be encouraged to bring over their horses in the belief that they’ll be treated fairly by our stewards.
I believe that had the placings not been reversed the long-term implications for British runners in France would be far worse and the French press would be ever so slightly more disparaging of our raiders over there.

If the roles were reversed and Special Duty was found to have forced Jacqueline Quest across the track, would the result have been amended? I have severe doubts.
Should it not be standard practice to decide if a Stewards’ Enquiry is necessary
before
revealing the result of a photo finish? Either way, Newmarket certainly didn’t come out of the event smelling of roses, with an insane track bias effectively ruining an entire day’s racing.
May 3, 2010 at 08:47 #293843Chicken and Egg syndrome, I suspect.
Let’s not forget that the majority of punters who backed either filly will be well pleased with the outcome. After all, most bookies in the High Street pay out on First Past The Post. To announce a stewards enquiry and their decision prior to any photo result would probably mean the end of FPTP.May 3, 2010 at 09:07 #293846Should it not be standard practice to decide if a Stewards’ Enquiry is necessary

How would that work if Felix or Smudger are the judge? Unfortunately neither understand what a "photo" can bring to a race although Felix does like to have a "pause" for his own enjoyment before he announces the result the odd occasion he does call one.
In any event if Special Duty had passed the post first there would have been no need for a stewards enquiry that would have affected the result. - AuthorPosts
