I’ve been all over Abacadabras since his Supreme 2nd to Shiskin. Although a messy race and both horses being hampered, he tanked through that race. I think he has had excuses this year, mucus in his trachea when behind Sharjah, could possibly have needed the run when 2nd to Honeysuckle after that. I’m sure this race will be run to suit and can easily see him punted off the boards again like last year. Especialky is Shiskin dots up, albeit over fences, earlier in the day. There have been question marks on this thread regarding most of the runners, To me, if you can forgive a couple of runs as explained, has as much chance as any given his course form last year. Think he’s a more solid proposition than Goshen. But that’s just an opinion.

I’ve taken the 33/1 about Atholl Street ahead of his run in the Dovecote at the weekend, as he could shorten up appreciably if he wins and wins well.
Has not really come off the bridle in two starts, can’t say he’s beaten much, but what he has done, has been easy on the eye. Yes he’s in the ‘could be anything’ category at this stage, but should know more after Saturday.
Nicholls knows how to win this race and this is his only entry….
    Worth a dabble…

Anyone think this is a realistic target for Verdana Blue? Has classy form over 2m, and if gets decent ground, should see out the trip. With Honeysuckle and Benie out, could be worth a punt at the prices agsinst Concertista.

Allart for me. Impressed on debut in grade 2 over fences over 2 and a half, but has speed as well. Fell latest and debateable if Henderson finds another prep in time. If he turns up would be my bet e/w or without the fav.

Fred is a great price at 33/1. Good novice hurdler who beat Wild Max 30 lengths. Wild Max has won a couple of handicaps since and has been widely tipped for this race.
The form could have some substance…
One novice chase and back over hurdles could be a good move…
Like him, especially at the current prices…if he runs, given Henderson’s ‘ever changing moods!’

“They have done a fantastic job under difficult circumstances and we are keen to support the meeting as best as we can, so with that in mind, the intention is still for Buzz, Mister Coffey and now possibly Fred as well to take their chance in the Betfair Hurdle.

Yep, just an opinion….I think better ground sees him closer than 5 or 6…
Regarding De Boinville, I wouldn’t normally criticize but he’s let me down so many times when backing him, speaking from my pocket, not a jockey point of view, but mainly getting them from one side to the next, he’s not great…

I think Captain Guinness each way is the bet for me in this race.
He was travelling as well as anything in the supreme when coming down.
He was still going well in 2nd when falling in Energeume’s race.
I know it’s about jumping and going to an arkle on the back of fall isn’t ideal, but how far would have Energueme beaten him if he had stayed up, if at all?
Throw in the fact that Shiskin belted a few hurdles in the supreme and did well to win considering, and it’s highly likely he’ll belt a few fences at championship pace as well in the arkle. Another negative is De Boinville, I honestly do not think he is a top jockey, I think he’s a terrible judge at bringing horses to hurdles / fences. Way too many mistakes.
At a far bigger price than Shiskin, I’d rather back Captain Guinness out of the two at the prices to see who has a clearer round of jumping.
He was pressing Energueme 2 out and fell yet is 10 times the price of that one.
I think he has just a s much chance as either of the front two in the betting and at 25/1, takes my money. He’s like better ground too.
Just my take on the race…

    Hi VTC
With Newbury being called off can I make a second sub?
No point keeping Altior now, without a prep run might not even line up at Cheltenham now.

    So Out – Altior
    In – Kemboy

    Cheers

True, but those thoughts were raised long before he became the horse he has…could well be a thing of the past, but won’t know until they try….they are trying 3 miles, might as well try right handed again and see what happens now…

Cryname could be a price if he fails to stay 3m again….25/1 for the highest rated chaser in training. Can just about seeing him getting 3m, but 3m 2 in a gold cup? Surely has to come here if he goes to cheltenham at all?

Clan Des Obeaux to pay for Christmas again…can’t see this being a big field at all and not many Irish coming over. Can see him going off around even money on the day…everyone knows it’s his gold cup, and will take something special to beat him I reckon. I normally look for a bit of value as others are at present, but simply can’t see anything good enough to beat him round Kempton at that stage of the season.
