I totally agree with your comment about some horses getting caught out up the hill…I was just pointing out I don’t think SS did empty out, I think it was more to do with the last flight blunder hindering his momentum…
Much to look forward to come March…I’m amazed people think Hurricane Fly only has to turn up to win.
It may have been a good champion hurdle he won, but it wasn’t vintage. You cannot possibly say how good it was without the reigning champion even running. If Binocular had ran and ran anywhere near as well as his win the previous year it would have been a vintage champion hurdle.
The other thing is as well, you’re forgetting there are a few hurdles in the way, so if you think any horse race is a formality you need your head’s read. There are some young pretenders coming through also, as well as a certain Binocular hopefully lining up, so if you think the prices on offer about an historically fragile horse then fill your boots! What is it with people when they bang on about horses folding up the Cheltenham Hill?
Sprinter Sacre was tanking along around the bend, and pretty much put all four feet through the last hurdle in a fast run race. He may not have won, but if he didn’t make that mistake you can’t say he just emptied out coming up the hill. It’s bound to knock any momentum out of any horse! It’s about jumping better at speed. If he had been ridden differently or held up, the outcome might have been different AGAIN like so many other races.
I have nothing against Peddlars Cross, Al Ferof, or any other horse for that matter, but to accuse a horse of being better on a flat track, emptying out or plain not getting home, seriously guys, watch the race again, and tell me who looked the classiest horse on the day before walking through the last flight. And yeah, is bred to jump a fence and anything gained along the way last year was simply a bonus.
If it jumps well come March, only Peddlars Cross will have the speed to keep up with him.Ghizao – 2.30 Chel

CheersI agree that Timmy Murphy probably suits Ghizao, but I can’t agree that having Ruby Walsh on board would be a negative on any horse to be honest….he’s the best in the business.
Apparently they thought Ghizao should have won the Haldon Cup with a view to go for the Tingle Creek, so they obviously think highly of him.
Connections very disappointed, but he was found to be very stiff afterwards and given some time to get over it. Probably due to hitting every other fence!! If he jumps well he’s a top class horse, but that’s what NH racing is all about….jumping!!I agree with you guys re Ghizao. He is the class horse in the field on Captain Chris form, and looked as though he would have beaten Finnians Rainbow at Aintree but for belting the last. Was gutted it ran a stinker behind Medermit as I had some tasty bets on him for the Champion Chase but that’s racing. If it doesn’t hit one or two fences this must have a huge chance at the weights, but that’s a big if…..good luck for Saturday!
I’m sure Peddlars Cross and Al Ferof desrevedly have their supporters as they are two classy animals….but I’m not sure people should assume the Arkle is a two horse race.
Just wait and see how the betting is come March after Sprinter Sacre has strutted his stuff a couple of times.Tetlami – 12.55 San

CheersI have to say I agree with the fact there would be nothing between the times of both Champion hurdles. I know two races aren’t the saem but it doesn’t change the fact that they are similar levels of form. To say that Binocular is a poor grade one winner is a bit far wide of the mark for me. Yes he’s a frustrating animal and is not worth punting at skinny odds against rubbish opposition. It’s clear he needs time to wind up to the festival. Given a fast run 2 miles round Cheltenham, he would be my idea of the only horse who get Hurricane Fly off the bridle. At the odds at this moment in time, there is only one bet to be had…and it’s not the skinny price about the fragile Hurricane Fly.

For all the people having suggested Kauto Star should be retired or just isn’t that good anymore, please give it a rest. The horse has just beaten some of the best young chasers around fair and square and in pretty much record time.
Whether Long Run wasn’t fit enough or the jockey is to blame shouldn’t detract form the fact that by far the best horse won on the day. It’s about jumping fences and the fact Long Run missed a couple is just plain tough **** in my opinion. How many horses have we all backed and they fell at the last? Did we get our money back? No we didn’t, the horse that jumps wins the race.
I have been a Long Run fan from what he showed last season, and yeah he may have beaten Kauto Star fair and square in the Gold Cuop, but Kauto bled at Kempton, and I reckon he should be given one last shot at a King George. What if Long Run beats him and comes second? Would that be so disgraceful so as to retire the old boy? Coming second in any King George is no mean feat, and after Saturday, who’s to say he won’t show the new kids on the block that breaking yet another record was no fluke. The horse is a legend plain and simple, and having Star is his name is about as apt as you can get.
Kauto Star is some racehorse and let him do what he does and as long as he wants to.
I can see Long Run, Kauto Star and yes…Mster Minded fight out the finish of the King George….come to think of it, what has Master Minded done as well that so many should knock him? Too great horses plain and simple, and yes Long run is too, but lets share the credit shall we?Highland Valley – 2.30 Hay – Nap

Both Hurricane Fly and Big Bucks could well win in a hack canter, but I honestly believe we haven’t seen the end of Binocular, and I’m sure Oscar Whisky could be as good a horse as Big Bucks.
Hurricane Fly is clearly a class horse but he hasn’t had to race against a former champ at what is obviously is his best course and distance. Binocular will be the first horse to get the Fly off the bridle come March, then we’ll see how good he really is.- AuthorPosts
