Definitely too big a price Mark, I knew you’d be keen on him too, having spotted him early in The Ten To Follow.
August 7, 2020 at 18:02 #1496499As with the Ladbroke thread, I’m with Lemons again, CDO all day long for me, but I will resist for now.
August 8, 2020 at 11:21 #1496589Yes, VTC. Very interesting move to Nicholls with the 2.5 to 3 mile chase options over here
Might even start his season at Ascot.August 8, 2020 at 15:07 #1496608Master Dino back today with a win in France.
Owned by Munir/Souede now, I wonder if he could come into the picture here.
August 9, 2020 at 18:21 #1496746Their Autumn plan for him would suggest the King George isn’t a target, particularly with the British racing schedule and prize money being affected more by the pandemic
August 10, 2020 at 14:10 #1496788Fair point Mark, that makes sense.
October 20, 2020 at 10:59 #1506791CLAN DES OBEAUX for me for this. I have bet it and think it’s a solid ew bet and I’m on at 5/1. Paul Nicholls is a master trainer and has worked out that this must be his main target. Undoubtably proven around Kempton, winning it twice, proving he loves it there and is clearly proving to be a better horse (rating wise around the fast right-handed, flat track). In all fairness Nicholls has tried and failed to win the GC at Cheltenham with this horse and the Betfair at Haydock.
A few of the other contenders –
LOSTINTRANSLATION – Ran no sort of race in this last year and got taken off his feet, I’m just wondering if Tizzard will be mindful of this and decide a different route to the GC with him (Smashing horse though).
CHAMP – In my honest opinion will get found out jumping wise here and again I see him going elsewhere over Christmas.
SANTINI – I really don’t think the track will suit, he reminds me of an old-fashioned type of a chaser who appreciates a track more like Cheltenham than Kempton.
TOPOFTHEGAME – was an impressive (if not slightly quirky head carriage) stamp of a horse that I think may have a chance if Nicholls sends him here, just a shame that he has been out injured for over 12 months, with that point I rule him out as there are very good horses to take him on with that haven’t been injured.
Irish horses – What is going to turn up? Especially with this pandemic….
KEMBOY – If back to his best would have a chance but he is another that has his own ideas about the game from time to time in my opinion.
ALLAHO – is a very nice horse and may take this race as a stepping stone before dropping back down in distance on his way to the RYANAIR at the festival. (I do like this horse).
My curveball for this race is a horse I think has improved no end for being upped in trip and held up during his races now that he has settled better, SAINT CALVADOS 33/1 ew, I bet this in the RYANAIR and he ran a tremendous race just failing to beat MIN.
This race tends to carve up with just a handful of runners (or a little more) come the day, to that point my bets are –
CLAN DES OBEAUX 5/1 ew
SAINT CALVADOS 33/1 ew
ALLAHO is of interest if he goes?October 21, 2020 at 08:53 #1506851Interesting they are considering the Betfair chase for Saint Calvados.
Yogi, Real Steel to add to that list.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 21, 2020 at 12:11 #1506871As I said in opening post, I do like Copperhead for this, for all that right now, it wouldn’t look the most obvious target.
I’m hoping to get a free race out of Real Steel at the very least, it would be touch and go with Master Tommytucker, but at 40’s, I might just take the 40’s Copperhead, for a similar approach.
October 21, 2020 at 12:20 #1506873VTC, the plan for Copperhead at this stage is Ladbrokes Trophy and then Welsh National.
October 21, 2020 at 12:24 #1506876Yeah Mike, I’d seen that, that would look more sensible right now definitely.
October 21, 2020 at 18:43 #1506913Real Steel still the only bet for me so far at 25s. Clan Des Obeaux is the right favourite and will most likely be fav on the day too. I’d be prepared to give Lostintranslation another go if the Tizzard’s decide to run him but not antepost.
October 21, 2020 at 20:27 #1506921Hi Jackh1092
Yes REAL STEEL? I can’t make my mind up with him. Did he run really well in the GC coming there to challenge at one point or on the flip side, was a slowly run GC up until that point?
Talking to a close friend of mine and he believes its Jareds best horse, is he good enough…..the jury’s still out I’m affaid
October 22, 2020 at 11:14 #1506955Clan Des Obeaux to pay for Christmas again…can’t see this being a big field at all and not many Irish coming over. Can see him going off around even money on the day…everyone knows it’s his gold cup, and will take something special to beat him I reckon. I normally look for a bit of value as others are at present, but simply can’t see anything good enough to beat him round Kempton at that stage of the season.
October 22, 2020 at 11:22 #1506956Real Steel’s recorded over fences going right handed is excellent, and he’s still only 7
Champ and Santini unlikely to run, though the latter most likely of the two.
Most Irish stars will stay in Ireland.25-1 each way looks like…a real steel
October 25, 2020 at 22:14 #1507368It’s a very boring selection this, but I’m also with Clan Des Obeaux. 5-1 will hopefully be a massive looking price come Boxing Day
October 25, 2020 at 23:54 #1507372Not boring if it’s a winner Buckers, and although I’m going down my usual outsiders route in this, I do think that 5’s for CDO looks very fair.
As much as I like the Nicholls horse, I’m now with three of his, having added Frodon. I bet him for this last year, but 19/20 Frodon was a shadow of 18/19 Frodon. He looked back to his best yesterday though, and if he’s going Gold Cup route, then why not go here.
Real Steel 40’s
Frodon 40’s
Master Tommytucker 66’s
