Yeah i have no doubt he is a good trainer, was just wondering if anyone new if he had a bug or whether its just a lean spell. I know the yard had a cough last year. Hopefully he will be back with some good horses soon

i was very disapointed with his run today. the slow pace should have suited him. I wasnt able to watch the race. did he sweat up badly before the race? Perhaps he didnt go on the ground? He surely cant be this bad after showing such ability on the flat!?

I think his debut was sufficient to be honest, he was never going to win by a wide margin with the race run that slowly. As for it being a very modest race for his introduction, i think thats the way hobbs does it! It obviously wasnt for the prize money, more for the confidence, experience and a run.
Plus, look at the race hobbs ran Detroit city in for his introduction to hurdling!

I too wish mccoy a speedy full recovery. However, i dont doubt he is the man you need in a finish, he seems to have a nack of making previously good jumpers jump poorly! i feel his ‘bully boy niggling style’ puts horses off and makes them make more mistakes. For example iris’s gift and inglis drever both jumped poorly for mccoy, but fine for other jumpers, and seems to be the case with most he rides!

Its ok! He isnt running in the king george!
Its the owner who wants to win the chester cup with him. He was a creditable 2nd last year after a poor draw (i think) but he would need to improve to win it imo.
Fingers crossed he runs somewhere soon!!!

Fair Alongs major target for the season is the Chester Cup in may im afraid guys! which is abit of a bummer for all us jumping fans!
He looks set to try 3 miles in the King george though, and it wouldnt suprise me to see him improve for the trip, but he cant win it.
As for his jumping i think he is so small he finds it hard to jump flat out over 2 miles but the step up in trip will help.
He will undoubtably run at the festival and probably in the Ryan air chase which im sure he will get the trip if they dont go mad from the front, after all he was staying on on the flat over 2 miles 2.

However, he has missed alot of work with an infection in a hind leg so he isnt a certain runner in the KG

Like many of you on here, Hoo La Baloo is what is causing me to be wary of the form of this race. during the summer nicholls said he was very badly handicapped and was struggling to win off his mark. He then became one of the luckiest handicappers around being given 2 wins when he looked booked for 2nd.
IMO HLB is a fully exposed handicapper, who to be fair does love sandown, but why on earth was he so close to the principles if TM, VPU and MG ran to form?
TM and HLB ran cracking races, VPU and MG well below pa, possibly VPU run at cheltenham in the mud took more out of him than king thought

if i remember rightly alan king said if katchit were to win the fighting fifth he would go for the xmas hurdle, if he were to loose he would go for the bula. so hopefully we will get a second chance to see how good he is against older horses at cheltenham in 2 weeks. im suspected he will come up just short again

i think denman will keep plodding on under his big weight but will be vulnerable to better handicapped rivals, especially as he is an old fashoned type that usually need the run, even with top conections. look at my way last weekend!
i would have sided with abragante but pipes horses are not finishing their races well enough at the moment so i think i will be backing new alco to win.
I will also be backing monkerhostin each way if he were to run as he will get every yard of the trip and is arguably reasonably weighted.

i have to agree with you, they seem the wrong way around. Although i believe BJK’s owners have insisted he sticks to the staying races (god knows why) so i suppose as he is ‘top dog’ in the yards hurdling devision WL got left with the inadiquate ascot hurdle trip. Having said that it should have set him up for his next outing at cheltenham in december, but if i remember rightly thats only over 2 miles 5, which would suit BJK imo.
If Jonjo has any sence WL will run in the stayers hurdle at cheltenham and BJK will run in the aintree hurdle.

another of my favourites gone, truely brilliant at his best. In my opinion he would have been the champion had he arrived at the festival in his previous form. A very sad day. From what i can gather he fell because of a ruptured valve in his heart rather than dieing from his fall. RIP

Davidjohnson, has terry brought the grey berry then?

Also the RP site says detroit died from a ruptured valve in his heart

marb im sorry but your talking rubbish. there was no way you could say from teh first 2 flights of hurdles whether detroit city would have won or lost. He never has been a hard pulling horse, infact a lazy one! i thought he looked more enthusiastic than normal to be honest!
Plus even if he had finished last he wouldnt have been retired, he was 5!
they would have tried fences, and if that didnt work a change of yard etc etc.
Anyway this doesnt matter now coz he is gone, but i would like to say what a great owner terry warner is, always caring about his horses, he doesnt over race them, isnt greedy and doesnt like to run them over fences incase they fall! Lets hope you can find another great grey!

i agree that 4-1 is no price for a horse that was out of form at the end of last season, but if he had finished last season in the form he started it im sure he would be evens for tommorrows race. wouldnt suprise me if he is backed heavily in the morning either. i suppose it depends if people believe the whole wind/back ulcers arguement or whether he has issues with his willingness to win. i really cant make up my mind so think i will sit this one out unless he drifts to a stupidly huge price!!!!!

over 2 miles, 2 miles 4, 3 miles or 3 miles 2, moscow would have beaten best mate. best mate was good, but not great, and was lucky not to come up against many good horses. just look at his rating! beating sir rembrandt by a neck, please!!!!
