Apart from the great race and sad happenings in yesterdays Ascot Hurdle I was puzzled by the running of WL. I can’t understand why he was running in this race. He’s a stayer pure and simple who has a flat spot in his races so why the hell was he running in a 2m3f race against far speedier horses? What is O’Neill thinking? Yet next week BJK runs over 3m at Newbury against the top horses, when he doesn’t appear to stay 3m against the top horses. Am I missing something, surely they’ve both run in the wrong races, or am I incredibly naive??
November 25, 2007 at 18:48 #126993i have to agree with you, they seem the wrong way around. Although i believe BJK’s owners have insisted he sticks to the staying races (god knows why) so i suppose as he is ‘top dog’ in the yards hurdling devision WL got left with the inadiquate ascot hurdle trip. Having said that it should have set him up for his next outing at cheltenham in december, but if i remember rightly thats only over 2 miles 5, which would suit BJK imo.
If Jonjo has any sence WL will run in the stayers hurdle at cheltenham and BJK will run in the aintree hurdle.November 25, 2007 at 19:32 #127004Spot on Andy.
I was bemused by this as well. Still backed WL yesterday thinking they knew something we all did not. Was very pleased with the run and back over 3 miles will be very hard to beat. Don’t usually back AP but might be tempted this year.
November 25, 2007 at 19:42 #127006Isn’t the Relkeel (the 2m 5f one at Cheltenham next month) the one with the unusual entry restrictions ie. it’s for horses just out of novice company and as such BJK would be ineligible for it?

Any specific reason why Kevin? ? ?
Is it because simply the odds are often shorter because of him being on board? ? ?
