I am still keeping faith with Epatante. That run at Kempton was too bad to be true. Had she of hacked up as most expected, she’d be odds on for this. The weight allowance will work in her favour and I can see her returning to form. JP’s record in this race is unreal (especially in the last few years) and seen as Saint Roi hasnt done too much right since Cheltenham, Buveur’s now 10 and its unknown how much ability he retains, it therefore leaves Epatante to fly the flag for the green and gold battalion. Happy to be proven wrong but she still gets my vote.
Fair play Hollie – cant knock that.
Personally I didnt think her VT did her enough justice but good to see her there on the main stage. As i said a few months back, I just wish my 66s could have been each way. Never mind, im used to hitting thr crossbar with the majority of my bets haha

And another one bites the dust…..

And today becomes the first British female jockey to ride a winner in Hong Kong
I think Frodon is at his best when racing at Cheltenham. Loves the challenge and performs well. Can see the angle on Defi – just hard to know. I backed Min ew at 11s before the John Durkan so im hopeful of a repeat of last season

Hey Mike,
This is what I was saying on the Tingle Creek post and youve hit the nail on the head. I dont object to the fact he withdrew Altior, its the fact he banged on all week what good form Altior was in and didnt reference the ground being a concern once (even with his horses running on Friday). Then, as you say, shocks us all by withdrawing him at 9pm the night before. Walk the track first and then make a decision. At least it seems a bit more legitimate then. Just disappointing and very misleading to punters. Anyway as i said on the other chat, just gonna draw a line under it now.
It should be a winner assuming both jumped off together

Supasundae retired.
Good decision.
Heres the full interview I referenced:
As ive said all day, I understand why he pulled him but its not like the weather miraculously changed during the week. He knew what the ground was going to be like, he raised no concerns all week and if he was anxious watching Friday’s racing, flag it then. Also walk the course on the day. Anyway bored of talking about it now just wish Lydia asked him why he declared him knowing what the weather was like.
As i said earlier its the way its happened more than anything. Looking at how the race ran i am fairly sure Altior would have won but now we will never know.
However great race and win by Politologue, very surprised he never started odds on as he was head and shoulders above his rivals before and during the race.
Anyway its done now, well played winners and look forward to seeing the full interview (Hislop v Henderson) later. Possibly BT Box Office next time out haha
Cork All Star – couldnt agree more. I am not arguing with the fact he pulled Altior, everyone has to make the correct decision by their horse but its the fact hes been waxing lyrical all week, no major ground concern warnings (that I have seen or read), declared him 48 hours before and then hasnt even walked the drying course. Just taking punters for mugs. If he had said at the start of the week, hes training well but we have concerns over the weather forecast, then fair enough but thats not the case. As I say I had a small bet (but did have a cash out option) so not the end of the world but for anyone else who put down big sums based on this weeks comments, I feel sorry for.
From his Unibet column yesterday –
Altior (Nico de Boinville) NON RUNNER
NON RUNNERLots of you saw him at Newbury the other day where he worked with Epatante and that will have really sharpened him up nicely. As you all know, this race has been the plan from the very beginning and everything has gone without hiccup in the lead up to it. He schooled last week and again on Thursday morning and was his usual brilliant self so I am extremely happy with him coming into this. It does looks a decent renewal but we have already beaten Politologue plenty of times and he’s managed to do it in soft ground too, albeit quite a while ago, and Altior is now a year older so obviously has the potential to be vulnerable to an improving horse, but I’m not sure there’s really anything like that lurking in the field and I see no reason why we should worry. NON RUNNER
As I say ive had (and will continue to have) many losing ante post slips but just think this is a poor showing based on all the glowing updates all week, knowing the weather report, won on ground before and declaring him within the 48hr decs.
Anywho its done now, good luck everyone with your selections.
I will be cheering on my Greanateen bet and hope he can progress into a superstar.
Possibly id have to check but its not heavy for TC.
So I backed Altior ante post at 3/1 and Greanateen 15/2 ew.
All week I wondered whether team Seven Barrows would pull Altior but it was glowing report, after glowing report. “Nothing can go with him at home, should run in the Kings Stand, can go on any ground” etc etc.
Frustratingly it was on B365 so I was offered cash out all week. I was tempted as we know Hendo loves a bit of horsey roulette but to my knowledge they hadnt mentioned the ground being an issue all week. Even the bulletin yesterday morning was upbeat and all systems go.
I appreciate the Sandown meeting went ahead yesterday and the ground wasnt ideal but again I am sure there was no mention of Altior possibly being pulled until the evening.
This isnt me pocket talking as I dont bet high amounts but if there was an inkling team Altior were concerned about him going on the ground, I would have cashed out before last night but had he have run I would have been gutted to lose out on the 3/1, whether he won or lost.
I placed my bet some time ago but anyone who took a shorter price during the week based on said bulletins has even more reason to be pi55ed off.
I get he had a hard race against Cyrname and they wouldnt want to bottom him out but all hes done is filled the bookies pockets based on all the recent updates and positivity.
I somewhat sympathise why theyve withdrawn him but dont lead us a merry dance all week knowing the weather report and declaring him 48 hours before the race without even walking the course. Worst case I am sure Sandown would have catered for another racecourse gallop!
Very, very poor and as The Tin Man says, the game is hard enough to get a decent winner as it is but this certainly leaves a bitter taste.
