Maybe i am being biased due to past transgressions but that looked anything but careless. It looked a very deliberate course of action.

I have no real knowledge of him as a person, as a rider hes odious!

I’d like to see the old Nicholls. To me he just seems to have mellowed too much and maybe the edge he once had has gone.

When he’s asked about Cheltenham these days, he often says that its not the be all and end all, he has re-prioritized etc. I totally get that that is the case but i’d just like to hear him fight his case more, bang the drum over his achievements. Owners want to chances at the festival.

I honestly refuse to believe that he isn’t still as capable as any trainer out there.

I also think that he is brilliant at bringing hoses along slowly. Clan des Obeaux, cyrname, Pic d’orhy, Silviniaco Conti – horses that weren’t winning the supremes or arkles but were made into G1 winning chasers. Maybe people want the more instant success that the Skeltons/Mullins teams seem to be able to deliver.

Just rounded off a very underwhelming day really. Jinko blue handed a grade 2 on a plate really.

Nice horse, but i think he’ll always fall short of top class.

That was a horrible, horrible incident. RIP Thistle Ask.

My daughter had just sat next to me when he fell. She asked if he’d be ok, i said straight away “no pet, he’ll have to be put to sleep”.

Quite hard to explain that horses die for racing but i told her as i see it.

I firmly believe JB would have won regardless if IEP stood up or not. He stayed very strongly and the distances he put between protektorat and Pic D’hory, he’s probably still improving or peaking.

Could be trappy. Think jango wants to be coming off a strong pace, which wouldnt be guaranteed. IET must rate a danger, good aintree record.

Could only be 4 with spillanes tower left in national. Strangely, ground considered ok by same connections who puled him out of gold cup.

Hughesie has 3 months to get back to his riding weight to ride CH in the Northumberland Plate! But not Jamie Spencer, the poor horse has been through enough without being asked to conjur up a final furlong of 8 seconds flat, whilst weaving through 18 horses on the inside rail.

Random thought, but i’d loved to have seen Richard Hughes on board! Just missed out by the odd decade or so!

Not much to say but genuinely devastated by this. We’ll never know but he looked like he could do it all, very easily.

Marble sands i think will run into a place. Probably still looks a bit unexposed as never ran over marathon distance, but got the 3mile 3f at cheltenham really well.

    66/1.

Probably unrelated to this incident but james bowen seems to be getting a much bigger split of rides now, from Henderson.

Nico still clearly No1, but i wonder if that might change soon? I’m a massive Nico fan (brilliant big race jockey) but he has had some bad days (awful on Khrisma yesterday).

James has got a couple of monkeys off his back recently and should be banging down the door.

This might not be your thing but a couple year back we looked at staying at Craig Tara caravan park. We could rent a static caravan for 3 days for something like £190. We ended up not going in the end but its definitely a cheap alternative. Its only 4 miles form the course.

I had been on a family holiday years ago, the caravans are all good standard.

Contradicting myself a bit but could easy see Jango Baie winning the Bowl. Quite often thats won by horses on and off the bridle. Shiskin being a prime example.

Usually theres a good stayer kept fresh for aintree, but i think they all took there chance this year. He’s a consistent sort.

Agree Cork, IL etait temps and lossiemouth whilst clearly very good, were winners in pretty average renewals.

Even the Gold cup itself, will probably prove to be no more than a std renewal. GC was in a class of his own.

Jango Baie in 2nd, still not convinced. He obviously stays very well over any trip but he just doesnt travel like a top class horse.

I think you always need to let the dust settle on the supreme before you know if it was any good, but it was a real mess after the last so i dont know what to make of old park star.

I hope he’s another altior (or even shiskin).

Dont think he is a 2miler, so probably done well to win.

Ultimately the good for me was that the positivity and feel good factor seems to be back.

For the most part, very competetive racing, loads of good betting heaps. Overall, hugely entertaining.

The bad, apart from the ongoing boring mullins domination, is that there wasnt many performances which blew me away.

Gaelic warrior was very good,as was lossiemouth and IET. Novices, both hurdles and chases didnt look exceptional. I think without FTF, Sir Gino and CH there was little wow factor in the actual races.
