…. They started 45 minutes a go Glad …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 25, 2026 at 20:44 #1760989He will probably act on quicker ground on the flat as he is not jumping so there is less strain with him not landing on the ground after jumping – he has a very fluent action and i would think that only good to firm ground would be a no no with him.
The last three runnings of the John Porter have been on good (last year), good to soft (when notable soft ground performer Hamish won it in 2024) and soft in 2023. Two of the last three runnings were won by horses officially rated 100 & 103 so I think he could be capable of winning a G3 if he faces rivals at those levels. Obviously if a horse like Hamish (117) turns up then that is an entire different proposition.
Turf and a stronger gallop will suit him much better but what will be really interesting to see is exactly what he does when he comes off the bridle and under pressure and he has to battle.
March 26, 2026 at 04:10 #1761000Nothing will happen when he comes off the bridle , see Punchestown for that
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 26, 2026 at 07:46 #1761002Random thought, but i’d loved to have seen Richard Hughes on board! Just missed out by the odd decade or so!
March 26, 2026 at 09:01 #1761005Rossa Ryan is the nearest thing to Hughes in riding style but that is chalk and cheese
Henderson should put Spencer up on the all weather circus tour
Where next Kempton and Southwell ticked off
Has to be Lingfield or Wolverhampton, maybe DundalkGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 26, 2026 at 09:54 #1761008Hughesie has 3 months to get back to his riding weight to ride CH in the Northumberland Plate! But not Jamie Spencer, the poor horse has been through enough without being asked to conjur up a final furlong of 8 seconds flat, whilst weaving through 18 horses on the inside rail.
March 26, 2026 at 12:23 #1761015I would describe CH performance last night as workmanlike. Could be wrong but I got the impression Ryan Moore wasn’t that impressed with him. Doubt they’ll be losing much sleep at Ballydoyle over the threat of CH, as Matt Chapman feared they might.
March 26, 2026 at 12:57 #1761019It was workmanlike and maybe Ryan gave him the test he needed. I’m sure Classical Allusion might be beaten again by two lengths or more next time out, but none of his conquerors will be made a 8/1 shot to win a G1.
He looked more like a 1m6f handicapper than a 1m4f G1 winner. No matter what happens this season the most important thing is to have a sound horse that enjoys it’s running. I’m quite sure that Melbourne or any trips further than France/Germany are already out of discussion.March 26, 2026 at 16:08 #1761025He is very comfortable at 12 furlongs
That’s all what you need to know……
March 26, 2026 at 19:27 #1761045Hamish, Al Aasy, Constitution Hill all in line for the John Porter… is this a group 3 or a veterans race?
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 26, 2026 at 19:35 #1761046Hamish and Al Aasy are incredible consistent horses who always seem to match their ORs of 115-117. I doubt the Hill is in that league after beating a Class 5 Maiden winner who might be not better than 85 by just two lengths.
March 26, 2026 at 20:18 #1761051Haggas has good options, Hamish on soft Al Aasy on better
hopefully they make Constitution Hill the favourite
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 26, 2026 at 21:29 #1761066Flemington and Rosehill tomorrow ,2 mill Aust Cup 2000 metres , 1.5 mill Tancred Stakes over 2400 and a couple of 200k races at Grp 3 open age at 2800 and 2000 , 42 horses , 25 Euro bred , and for Tancred its only 2 non Euros and Neville Selwood Stakes 1 non Euro .
Thats why the John Porter turns into a veterans race , the young legs are sold and gone .March 31, 2026 at 10:39 #1761490He’s been given an initial handicap rating of 101.
That puts him a stone or more behind Hamish (117) and Al Aasy (115), who he may meet if he goes to the John Porter Stakes next.
March 31, 2026 at 11:40 #1761491Seems the handicapper has got caught up in all the hype about the Ebor and the Melbourne Cup.
The runner-up at Southwell was giving CH 5lbs and is now rated 85, so that’s a 95 performance at best by CH.
The runner-up at Kempton was at level weights (bar a 1lb weight for age allowance) and he’s also been given a mark of 85. Even allowing for CH having a fair bit in hand there, I couldn’t rate that higher than 95 either.
The John Porter is currently scheduled to be the first race on the card, off at 1:25. I can see that being changed when Newbury get the scent of a bigger than usual crowd!
March 31, 2026 at 12:00 #1761492That is insane. It’s no use for the horse to be qualified for handicaps he might not contest at all.
I trust Ryan when he said 12 furlongs is far enough for the moment. If CH is on 101, is the Kempton runner-up 95+? Never, we’ll see it when it gets hammered next time out.April 13, 2026 at 10:02 #1763482Surprise, surprise, the John Porter is now being run as the third race on the card.
But so far, no sign of the star performer amongst the entries. Perhaps the ‘good to firm’ is going to deter Mr Henderson.
