He’ll need the long Newbury straight. Chester (Ormonde Stakes) won’t suit, the Ascot straight could also be on the short side in a big field race.
March 25, 2026 at 19:50 #1760968Henderson has just called him “the best hurdler in the country”.
No he isn’t. He can’t jump. That’s why you are running him in an egg and spoon race at Kempton on the all weather.
March 25, 2026 at 19:53 #1760969I wouldn’t normally watch Kempton AW on a Wednesday evening or any AW meeting for that matter so it achieved something. Funny they don’t seem to use those positional graphics for AW meetings on RTV?
Kempton doesn’t seem to have a long home straight on the AW which in my view doesn’t play to the Hill’s strengths so hopefully Newbury back on turf against better opposition might show him in a better light.
March 25, 2026 at 19:58 #1760970My word he was keen. I’d be a tad worried some of these group race staying flat races tend to be very small fields, tactical messy affairs. They may not suit him at all.
Delighted to see he’s backed it up today anyway and even more delighted some of the Twatter celebrities have done their conkers on distance bets. Responsible gambling indeed.

I think they have the shorter straight used today and another one which is about three furlongs. But, please correct me if I’m wrong with that as I always thought there were two Flat courses.
March 25, 2026 at 19:58 #1760973Ruby,
The day De Boinville slowed him down at Cheltenham was one of the most blatant scams I’ve ever seen on a race track. Literally every bookmaker had some sort of winning distance special running that day and Hendo/Nico made sure to down the lot of them. Crooks.
March 25, 2026 at 20:01 #1760974I think considering it was a slower run race and he was not well placed on the inside, he would have learned more tonight sbout flat racing than he did at Southwell – RTV stated he broke 12s for each of the last 3F so he clearly has speed but he would have preferred a stronger early gallop.
Hopefully he will get that going back on the turf at Newbury and that race will most likely tell us all a whole lot more as to where he will fit going forward – lets just hope he can stand up to the strain of running so often (something he was never used to doing over hurdles)

Hendo missed a few words off that statement, it should have said “he is the best non hurdling hurdler in the country”

Okay, then he admits that the Hill would have finished at least behind Lossiemouth…..

Agree and I assume you’re talking the 2025 Unibet.
March 25, 2026 at 20:05 #1760978Not exactly a high bar given the state of 2m hurdling this side of the sea.
March 25, 2026 at 20:10 #1760980“Let’s just hope he can stand up to the strain of running so often”.
I had that thought earlier. Maybe a 12 furlong Flat race is not as arduous as a 2 mile hurdle race but assuming he runs at Newbury, he can’t have had 3 runs so close together before.
He did the job well enough tonight but I am not convinced he is up to Group 3 standard.
March 25, 2026 at 20:12 #1760981I have to correct my initial impression. They did use the longer straight (three furlongs) for this race and just watching the final stages again. I think he didn’t quite accelerate as expected, the winning margin could have been a bit bigger, imo.

Not after tonight’s performance, though it was supposed to me more educational than expected.
March 25, 2026 at 20:16 #1760983Well done Moe with your EW play on Keep It Cool 50/1
He ran a cracker. So happy to see Constitution Hill enjoying his racing again and hope Nicky H is never tempted to return him back to hurdles, he’s a natural on the flat who knows what he will achieve this season and people are turning out to see him run which is good for the sport…enjoy every minute.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 25, 2026 at 20:17 #1760984Southwell is a slow track, everything is in slow motion there. Kempton is quicker and he didn’t look so dominate throughout the race. I can’t see him enjoying proper flat ground against better horses

March 25, 2026 at 20:20 #1760985Any odds available on when Newbury start watering to ensure he turns up for the John Porter? 🤔
March 25, 2026 at 20:31 #1760986From the Racing Post’s live blog:
“Constitution Hill WINS on his second Flat start!”
Love the capital letters and exclamation mark. Did anyone tell the intern typing it up that he was a 1/7 chance?
And:
“Betway were impressed. They have cut Constitution Hill to 8-1 (from 10s) to win a Group 1 this season.”
Why? What did he do tonight that makes it more likely?
