Newbury going Good to firm (Going Stick 5.9) Watering as required. Putting 8 to 12mm on today.
Yet Ayr is currently Soft (good to soft in places) Going stick 6.6 hurdles, 6.7 Chases.
Don’t understand these going stick readings anymore, good ground used to be 8.0.
April 13, 2026 at 11:16 #1763492Big sigh of relief at Newbury office, CH entered just after 11am.
As Yeats reports, watering under way to ensure he runs.
April 13, 2026 at 12:01 #1763500John Porter entries;
Al Aasy William Haggas
Bellum Justum Andrew Balding
Beset Joseph O’Brien
Burdett Road James Owen
Constitution Hill Nicky Henderson
Convergent Karl Burke
Eydon Andrew Balding
Lion’s Pride John and Thady Gosden
Phantom Flight George Scott
Pride Of Arras Ralph Beckett
Tenability William HaggasApril 13, 2026 at 12:51 #1763503He has the lowest rating in the race, only Tenability 103 and Burdett Road 105 are within his range.
Remains interesting to see how he fares in G3 company, providing he gets the ground Nicky asks for.April 13, 2026 at 14:11 #1763506Yeats – I think you will find that each course has their going stick figure for ‘good’ going due to the difference in make-up of its sub-soil.
April 13, 2026 at 15:26 #1763513Good to firm at Newbury currently and the watering cans are already in use with 8-12mm of watering taking place as there is no forecast rain this week (according to the RP).
If most show up I am pretty sure we will likely find out just what level he will be at on the flat going forward.
April 13, 2026 at 19:14 #1763541Unless it’s a really miserable wet summer, if the ground in April isn’t considrred suitable, I doubt we’ll see this horse racing on the turf until October (if then) – and you can forget any talk of the Melbourne Cup!
April 13, 2026 at 20:18 #1763546He ain’t showing up Saturday I put money on it.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 13, 2026 at 20:24 #1763547The only suitable AW race with decent prize-money remains the Unibet September Stakes (G3) which is due to take place early September. Just in case there is no turf campaign for him, but this one also takes a lot of winning.
April 13, 2026 at 21:08 #1763550“The only suitable AW race with decent prize-money remains the Unibet September Stakes”.
Henderson might be persuaded to run him.
April 15, 2026 at 17:09 #1763700RTV just confirmed he is not running
April 15, 2026 at 17:22 #1763702After walking the course with the COC Unibet Nicky decided the ground is just too quick for him. That’s a new dimension of ruling out a horse, if you just walk out there down the course and make a gut decision about the going being unsuitable.
It’ll be interesting to watch Saturday’s racing at Newbury and find out if more trainers decided like Nicky. Presumably there must have been other trainers there as well. One can’t imagine the COC walking the course just with the Unibet trainer next to him.April 15, 2026 at 17:23 #1763703“He ain’t showing up Saturday I put money on it”
Spot on, RTB
April 15, 2026 at 17:26 #1763705I won something

The more I know the less I understand.
April 15, 2026 at 17:33 #1763707The Grade 3 Ormonde Stakes should it come up softer at the Chester May meeting? It had 3 hurdlers run in it last season.
April 15, 2026 at 17:45 #1763708Can’t see him running at Chester.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 15, 2026 at 17:49 #1763709Quick ground. Yeah, right. Nothing to do with realising he was up against better horses than him and he was going to get stuffed.
“The Grade 3 Ormonde Stakes”.
I am sure Henderson has an oven ready excuse not to run him there as well. Tight track, won’t suit him, sight of the Roman Wall might upset him etc.
