Chester Ladies day always comes across as a decent day for the races, but the rest dont appeal.
Thats true, my dad went there last year and some woman was tipping him winners

As an alternative during Royal Ascot week, you could always head many hundreds of miles west instead and take in the first ever meeting at the new racetrack at Ffos Las – Thursday June 18th (evening).
Lovely summer jumps (mostly class 3 fare) at a dramatic new venue, and unlikely to be quite so inundated with racing-ambivalent socialites.
gc
the 4hr45m train ride to Llanelli.
Best day of Ascot is the first day as it has the best race of the whole week, no not the St James Palace,Queen Anne or Kings Stand but the 2m4f Ascot Stakes, a proper horse race with proper horses which only needs 10 flights to make it better than the Gold Cup.
haha exactly what I was thinking mate, the train to Ffos Las looks a bummer, and you’ve taught me an Ascot lesson there I thought the St James was the big race!
Might just go down to Llanelli though for that first meeting. Aren’;t EVENING jumps meetings usually poor quality though? (especially when its classed as ‘Ladies Day’)
Timeform have said that Ascot’s going varies depending on whether your at the start or the finish

Well I’ve just plucked for the Tuesday@ Royal Ascot

Cheaper trains of a Tuesday down to London than of a weekend (when the Epsom Derby is)

This year particularly seems dependant on how the weather is on the day.
Its hampering my decision really.
Rambling Minister likes it soft, so might stick around till National week to see if its going to rain.
Also, how on earth does Tom Seagal reckon ‘Big Fella Thanks’ A novice for gods sake, can win the thing?
I’ve never won this race. It’s one of the few big races I’ve never won IMO the closest I came is probably one of the closest AP came to winning too (Clan Royal).
However…..this year lets put that right

I’m already on Butlers Cabin. Think this has a fantastic chance and has been showing that early spark this season as if it’s ready for a very big race. Was going well last time before coming down.
Won it last year, had Comply or Die at 20’s 3 weeks before the race. Felt good

Imagine I’m saying this in a coarsely Scouse tone Craig……

‘Good Luck lad’

Excuses – I’m only 23

I’m just scared that if I pick Ascot, I’ll be at a meeting similair to Aintree’s ‘ladies day’ where everyone is just there on a ‘social day out’ eyeing up clothes, getting smashed on champagne, eyeing up tarts – ANYTHING BUT the horses basically.
I want to be at the one where men (seen a few girls too) have there heads buried in there timeform racecards and are quoting from Mark Howard Publications
(actually found a decent fella doing this over a pint with me at Cheltenham, Posh as anyone I’ve ever met but hey, he was a decent sort)I want to be at the meeting where there racing to the parade ring, not the bar or checking whether there tie is straight.
Another thing, (and yes, I know, fat chance, plus a scouser in the royal enclosure?haha) but how do the ones that do, get in there? By application and long waiting list?
Last year I had HenryTheNavigator at 20’s 3 weeks before it started off at 11’s, the fact it won the Coventry tilted it for me. Plus I’ve never liked Bolger horses.
Currently I’m leaning towards Crowded. House
It used to be run on a Wednesday

Ah yes I’ve heard about that mate, but I’m only 20

Why what is it thats wrong with derby day, out of curiosity?
Surely an interesting idea for a forward thinking racecourse. Quite a spectacle I’d imagine and I’m not sure there is much of a downside, excepting possible safety implications at courses with short pulling up distances (e.g. Epsom).
The AOB horses had significantly more chance of obtaining ‘best possible placing’ than the pacemaker.
Welcome to the forum BOFA.
Can’t win (sorry – lose) em all Aqulies – hang on in there.
Flippin heck Kingston – you don’t half read a lot.
I’m reading The Alchemist by Paulo Cuelho (for the third or perhaps fourth time).
Good to see this thread, last time we had a similar ‘what are you reading’ type thread someone recommended Pobby and Dingan by Ben Rice. What a find that was. Excellent.
I would agree that any three year old has to prove his worth against his elders before he can justifiably be tagged a ‘great’.
