“It also begs the question that if they can declare a horse a non runner before the weighed in signal, why is it different when there’s an excessive use of the whip on the winner?”
Exactly.
This was interesting and I think a better system than the official one as it isn’t skewed by a few wins in high value races.
Thanks to Mr and Mrs Raymo – much appreciated by all I am sure.
Well done Mickey – I’ll be in touch via messaging with details of your prize.
Well done also those on the podium – tough Rob to be caught on the run-in like that.
That’s you on a tenner at 32/1 Kendicate GL

Perceval LegalloisWell Kendicate you won over the two days, day one you were trailing the field but day two you were on fire an that winning hot pick in the last sealed it for you!
Who do you want your free £10 Grand National bet placed on?
A bit like Brian Hughes, Bowen has not only proven himself top class but suffers from not being in the ‘right place’ to get on the right horses in the Championship races. I think the fact that people like Joseph O’Brien, Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott ad Nicky Henderson, among a raft of other notable trainers, use Bowen speaks for itself.
Bowen is an excellent judge of pace and horses run and jump for him. Hard to say he’s the ‘best’ around but he is very definitely in that top bracket alongside Townend, Mullins.D., Cobden, Kennedy, Walsh.

Everyone – we go again today (Saturday) with Musselburgh – It’s free (ignore the Entry Fee £5 bit – it doesn’t charge and you don’t have to enter any card details or anything like that).
Download the App, register and then join the Group ‘TRF test‘ using the invite code F60421FEIt’s good fun to add some spice to a Saturday – if we get a few more entrants TRF will put up a small prize each week!

It was a memorable Derby for sure, with him sweeping past the field the way he did – I vividly remember watching it live on TV (in the glorious days it was on a Wednesday…sigh).
BUT, thrilling as the style of the win was, I wouldn’t have him down as an all-time great. Very, very good, but not an ‘all-time great’ – I’d reserve that category for horses such as Nijinsky, Dancing Brave, Frankel and a few others. I don’t think Troy quite reached those heights. You can’t have too many ‘all-time greats’.
From Wikipedia – In their book A Century of Champions, John Randall and Tony Morris rated Troy a “great” Derby winner and the sixteenth best British racehorse of the 20th Century
And they would be better judges than me!
He died at 7 years old and didn’t really get a chance to prove himself at stud but in that short time he proved himself a highly promising broodmare sire and was the damsire of horses such as Oath, Pilsudski, Street Cry and Westerner.

I’ve messaged the three podium placers about your prizes so check your messages please. Thanks and well done all.
That bad Fact To File decision of mine looking worse and worse

I think parading him at Cheltenham is a good move – there will be plenty racegoers who will be delighted to see him.

Hi Marlingford – I take your points and I am sure whoever took him on did so for the right reasons.
I just think there is a tendency for people to underestimate the cost of keeping a horse – even one who lives a quiet life grazing in a field is an expensive item and when something goes wrong with them, as is frequently the case, veterinary care for a large animal is extremely expensive.
