Probably my fave race of the year this. First Classic On THe Flat, so almost like the ‘real start’ of the flat season, and the first indication of what horses are classy. Last years win for me made it even more enjoyable.

Also, Rip Van Winkle has just overstretched according to AOB but reckons he’ll be fit for 2nd May.

Interesting that Graham Lee [my favourite jockey] is riding Kilbeggan Blade and not Hot Weld; I think I’ll be a bit aggrieved if Hot weld runs well in the National having backed him at Cheltenham; I know he’s said to be a spring horse etc etc but to pull up twice and then win would be a bit off; however, didn’t he do the same when he won the Scottish National?

He pulled up twice Mo, raced at Carlisle for a prep, then won th Scottish National@Ayr, but I like Ferdy Murphy horses, and he’s one I’ve been monitoring sinc liking the sound of him in ‘One Jump Ahead 08’ :) At 10 a nice age too.

Would you say maybe the shorter trip made it more diffucult for him?

We all know New Approach needed a longer trip to show his class last year…

I watched it on ATR, The Master galloped over 7f, his 2 lead horses went
a steady gallop and just extended their lead in the last 2 furlongs,Poet finished 1st with Windsor palace 2nd and the tenderly ridden Westphalia
finishing just in front of the Master in 3rd!
3rd lot saw Rip van Winkle shake his cobwebs off but yet again the gallop
was indecisive other than he too looked well, again he finished 4th behind a
colt called Stately home, they worked over 1m.

Did not know they had gallops on ATR :D (I’ve got cheap Freeview lad in my flat, so no ATR  )

Your local library is your friend :P

The latest B.S. is OK, but I wasn’t gripped by the urge to buy it for myself.

Will it be in the library lad? (sorry, habitual habit saying that for a Scouser)

I cant wait that long for Ahead On The Flat 2009 to hit the library, season will be finished by time it does!

Well having just watched Mastercraftsman working at the curragh with a dozen stable companions, all i can say is thank goodness i dont bet horses on what they achieve in their homework, he finished a good 10l behind his lead horse in 4th place, showing nothing more than the fact he is now a very imposing 3yo who has undoubtedly filled out during the winter! Black bear island cheered me up with his homework, this fellow has
Derby written all over him, but the eye catcher for me was the very smart
looking Age of Aquarius, he looks the real deal! we shall see! Interesting
as i have included these three in my 5 to follow on another thread!

How, you lucky sod, did you to watch it on the gallops?

…….. mutton dressed as lamb comes t6o mind for both Chester and Aintree ladies days/

    Spot on.

AIntree is full of girls with hardly anything on plastered head to toe in fake bake.

    And your complaining because!!!!!

I’d rather it be full of knowledgeable people who love horse racing.

I found it very odd that Christian Williams tipped Star de Mohaison as an ew tip for the race on the Morning Line and not his own horse; not sure what to read into it but it made me feel quite uncomfortable.

That irked me as well, and I backed Neptune Collonge.
