Diamond Harry was left clear by the only horse challenging him at Haydock – how that justifies a 160+ rating beats me.
Long Run should IMO be slightly higher – on form Tazbar looks to be as good a chaser as he was a hurdler and was beaten very easily at Kempton.
February 9, 2010 at 13:32 #275129Tazbar didn’t look all that good in last Years World Hurdle

Nope he didn’t but he has an OR of 158 – I think he’s at least worth that.
He beat Nicholls highly regarded Definity next time out and was alway going to be a better chaser – you can’t deny he’s been very very impressive in his victories though CS?
February 9, 2010 at 13:43 #275131Yes Tazbar has looked very good over fences but against no better than average opposition,
He’s met nothing of the classs of Bensalem or Knockara Beau
Definetly is stll a Maybe till he shows it on the race courseFebruary 9, 2010 at 13:44 #275132Now why doesn’t SWC complain about something useful instead like NH’s wish to run Long Run in the Arkle. The horse is clearly a 3 miler and why would you want to put his already suspect jumping under more pressure in the faster run arkle, which also looks a very hot race.
It is a case of greediness, thinking he can win both without thinking about the best race for the horse. The owners should put their foot down.

Excuse me are we talking about Long Run or Flyingbolt
Now I’ve stopped laughting

Definetly is stll a Maybe till he shows it on the race courseHe’s looked at least as good as Knockara Beau and Bensalem – the latter having struggled to beat Chariot Charger and was beaten by Take The Breeze (been well beaten since).
The horses that Tazbar beat on Saturday look potentially very nice horses – Bedlam Boy was talked about as an Arkle horse by Ferdy Murphy (who also has I’m Delilah in his yard) not so long ago and he brushed him aside with ease.
Knockara Beau has hacked up in a few Northern novices but when sent down south he’s been found wanting (Cheltenham/Wetherby) or run poorly for no explicable reason (Haydock)
February 9, 2010 at 13:53 #275135Win both races i.e. the Arkle with Long Run and the RSA with Punchestowns/DH
February 9, 2010 at 13:55 #275136Thank goodness I misunderstood which "he" you rereferred to in your post

I thought the hype had gone Interstellar!!!!

Failing by a short head to give 8lbs to Weird Al is going to look VERY good form by the end of the season, if it doesn’t already
Getting outclassed by Diamond Harry is something that’s happened to plenty fine horse
February 9, 2010 at 14:02 #275139I’d be surprised if they take on Punchestowns in the RSA with Long Run. I think a good display on Saturday will see him line up in the Arkle.
Re- Diamond Harry, I think you’d have to say he was impressive but I wouldn’t be rating him better than Punchestowns or Long Run on what he’s done so far.
Re – Weird Al. Could be under-rated, has lots of good qualities and is certainly a potential danger. For me though I think he might find himself a bit outclassed.
I see that Pricewise has gone for a 33/1 shot and made a pretty good case for it too.

Which form looks stronger to you – beating Knockara Beau a head or beating Tazbar easily by 13 lengths?

February 9, 2010 at 15:08 #275147Diamond Harry has already had his ‘hype’ bubble burst over hurdles, and little doubt he’ll soon go the same way over fences.
Beating Knockara Beau over a distance well short of his best, and receiving 7lbs, isn’t good enough form to even be a threat in a normal RSA.How can a bubble be burst by winning in very nice fashion over his season re-appearnce over brush hurdles ? and how can his claims for the RSA be lessened by beating a horse who you say need the longer trip, when he himself needs a longer trip also ?
February 9, 2010 at 15:23 #275148The bubble was burst when he was well beaten by both Diamond Harry and Karabak – at least the notion that he’s a 170+ hurdler was.
He might well be that over fences but beating a woefully poor Knockara Beau (on that day) and being left clear by the only other challenger (who’s now won 1 from 3 over fences) isn’t what makes and RSA Chase winner.
February 9, 2010 at 15:27 #275149Diamond Harry has mixed it with the big boys twice over hurdles and come up short, albeit not by much on both occasions.
Good horse, undoubtedly.
World beater and RSA winner – plenty to prove.February 9, 2010 at 17:21 #275185The bubble was burst when he was well beaten by both Diamond Harry and Karabak – at least the notion that he’s a 170+ hurdler was.

Who says Knockara Beau was woeful that day, certainly not me (I though he ran his usual consistent race) and certainly not the Racing Post race reviewer and I quote
"The durable Knockara Beau faced a stiff task conceding 7lb to the winner, but despite running his race he was no match whatsoever for that rival. He sets a decent standard and deserves to take his place in the RSA, where the longer trip should help, but it is very hard to see him reversing this form even on level weights, provided a clear round for both."
Burton Port is no sloutch either …Your Honour I rest my case
