I had to laugh at the betting guide for the latter race, with names like Rouget, Magnier, Tabor and War Front, not giving the oddsman enough of clue to not price the filly up at 16/1
Soumillon on board too

July 8, 2017 at 18:18 #1309397I forgot to mention that I felt Rostropovich was a poor value favourite at Naas today. I was looking at the betting last night and on my own reckoning I felt that he, and Camelback held pretty much the same chance.
Racing Post ratings had Camelback on 87 and Rostropovich on 86 with Bolger’s runner on 87. Last night Rostropovich was 4/5 Fav and Camelback was 3/1. With Rostropovich being by Frankel I was not confident he would make the improvement that many of O’Brien’s Galileo’s do and watching both colts on their last start Camelback seemed just as impressive as the Ballydoyle horse. I stuck a tenner on at 3/1 and Camelback stayed on best today to win from Bolger’s horse with Rostropovich last of the three in a pretty tight race.
Camelback was 3rd behind Brother Bear and Sioux Nation on his debut and he simply seemed the value last night.
Sorry I didn’t post it now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 8, 2017 at 18:31 #1309398Outstanding performance from the moral Queen Mary winner Mrs Gallagher at Nottingham tonight. Gives weight and a beating to one of the quickest breeze-up horses sold all year.
July 9, 2017 at 10:39 #1309473Impressed with the opening winner at Naas yesterday. I backed the second who is an above average maiden but although the margin of defeat was relatively small the winner had any amount in hand. Weak in the market it would be a surprise if he isn’t at least Group 3 material.
July 9, 2017 at 13:35 #1309505Cascadian took the 1st at Chantilly and looks a good one to follow once up in distance. It’s hard to know what he was up against with the 2nd fav falling out the stalls but Cascadian was slowly out aswell and niggled along for most of the contest to try and keep tabs, looked well beat at one stage but either picked up very well or the whole field stopped to see him win easily.

Will post the video later.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

July 9, 2017 at 14:41 #1309513A 750k Scat Daddy colt named Seahenge ran out an easy winner at Naas yesterday, becoming only the second horse to win on debut for O’Brien this season. The other, was a certain September, ante post favourite for the Guineas and Oaks.
Looking at the race itself, Donnacha gave him a few cracks in order to get out of a pocket, looking quite green, but once he was angled out and got rolling it was hands and heels the whole way to the line. No doubt this fella was just as undercooked as the rest of O’Brien’s on debut, so when they go on to win first time out it really makes you sit up and take notice. He’ll be no price next time out however. Interestingly he holds an entry in the National Stakes but not the Pheonix, so they must think he’ll improve for a step up in trip.
July 9, 2017 at 15:37 #1309516Seahenge was impressive yesterday. The notable thing for me was that he seemed to be pushed along, but when the jockey took him wide to launch his challenge it was almost as if it woke the colt up and the clear daylight, along with nothing on his right hand side, made the penny drop. He came through to win narrowly, but it was almost as if he was just starting to race properly as they hit the winning line.
Plenty more to come from Seahenge.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Obviously the horse I was referring to was Seahenge but feel free anyone else like to add to the thread as if the post didn’t exist?

What’s wrong with posting the horse’s name to make things clear Stilvi?
In a busy day some people can’t be hooped working out which horse is being referenced.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 9, 2017 at 16:41 #1309531For what it’s worth, The Racing Post gave Seahenge 83 for his win yesterday. They actually had the runner up as running 2 lbs below his previous start.
His jockey reported:-
“He’s very green still and should improve when he’s stepped up to seven furlongs or a mile. He just hung in behind horses a bit which was greenness more than anything but he did it nicely in the finish.
“He’ll have to improve but he could be a Stakes horse.”
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 9, 2017 at 16:51 #1309533Bugger, just missed the 2nd race….. 🙁
You may catch it here before they move it Nathan:-
The Rouget horse was 3/1, rather than the 16/1 forecast.
She travelled well but couldn’t quite pick up, keeping on for 3rd. The Siyouni filly Sully kicked on best and won well. She is a well made looking filly, probably holding a physical advantage at this stage.
Ballet De La Raine struck me as the filly who looked likely to take it at one stage and I think she will come on a lot from this. To my eyes she just got a bit tired in the closing stages and watching the replay I feel she was very considerately handled on her debut. I’ll be shocked if she can’t win next time in similar company. Rouget is no mug.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 9, 2017 at 17:34 #1309535The very expensive Scat Daddy, Mendelssohn, is entered at Newmarket on Friday, though I doubt he’ll actually turn up (The Pentagon is also entered and is a more likely runner).
July 9, 2017 at 17:44 #1309536The full replay for Cascadian can be found here for now:-
Ze Turf tend to move the replays later.
Wind the video on to 4m 40s to get to the stalls actually opening.
Cascadian pretty much falls out of the stalls and is ridden to latch on at the back. A bit on and off the bridle has plenty on with 300M to go but he fairly picks up and collars the leaders before powering clear. A chestnut with one of the biggest white blazes you will ever see, he is easy to pick up visually. It ends up a facile success and the colt looks sure to improve.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 9, 2017 at 18:33 #1309541Thanks for the replay Steve
Like you say a nice introduction for BALLET DE LA REINE the horse travelled sweetly, I was a little disappointing at the end of the race but jockey had kid gloves on She will deffo come on for it, drawn wide and 4 deep around the bends whereas Sully hogged the rail.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
