Prior to saddling up, one of the presenters went to see Vaubon.
He was very settled and content, just taking in the surroundings. He was tethered in an open fronted barn/lean-to (I presume the other horses were also in this building), and above was a misting system that seemed to be running constantly. I didn’t see a fan, but it would be logical to have them set up to circulate the air.
Of the races I watched, none of the horses at any of the Aussie racecourses appeared to be in any discomfort from the heat.
March 27, 2025 at 02:05 #1724904Vauban drawn 3 in 2400 Gr1 Tancred Stakes Rosehill Saturday , 2nd Fav . Fav Dubai Honour inside him , Duke de Sessa outside him. Duke de Sessa will lead out and it should be a very good race , I fancy Vauban to win it but will be cheering on Dubai Honour as would like to see Haggas win it .
At Flemington two tearaway front runners could set it up for Middle Earth in Australian Cup .March 28, 2025 at 22:46 #1725028Rosehill off waterlogged , that will scupper some plans , id guess they will race meeting early next week as some serious money up for grabs . May make Tancred field weaker as some wait now for QE2 and Syd Cup .
April 1, 2025 at 07:54 #1725298Very good run by Vauban in Tancred Stakes , just got a bit far back but ran on real good late for 3rd , another 200 K AUD into bank to go with the 150k few weeks back . Looked way more relaxed on cooler day , he’s not the worst buy at all .
Winner , Dubai Honour , 870k AUD not too bad . Trainer just a genius , he’s is so good , very nice ride by Aussie Tom . The travelling team Haggas has really know their stuff . Top job .April 1, 2025 at 07:59 #1725299Haggas has Marama going round in a benchmark 75 at run of mill midweek Warwick Farm meeting tomorrow , I think she will stay in OZ .
April 10, 2025 at 01:54 #1726815Vauban drawn 14 in QE2 at Randwick Saturday , 20k for 12th and should beat 3 home to get at least that .
Dubai Honour drawn wide as well , Via Sistina drawn 1 could be tricky .
Fawkener Park could be a decent each way value bet in this race .April 10, 2025 at 10:57 #172682838 inc emergencies across the QE2 and Sydney Cup Saturday , 27 ex or current European runners , only 4 Aus bred , 4 kiwi bred .
Two from Japan , and Full Count Felicia ex USA .
Total dominance by imported horses 2000 metres upwards in best all aged OZ races nowdays .August 13, 2025 at 21:44 #1737970Vauban had nice hitout over 1000 metres in a trial last week , beat home Via Sistina and few other decent horses . Cannot read too much into it , heavy track so none of them would have been pushed too hard but hes still got some zip , hes looking a decent buy , Melbourne Cup 10 million AUD this year , about 6 miilion quid so run top 4 or 5 theres a decent chunk to add to the rest of the cash he has earmt them , and a guarenteed start in the race so they cam train him how they want , not like lighter weights chasing a penalty or free ticket race
March 9, 2026 at 06:11 #1757694Vauban entered in Sky High Stakes at Rosehill this weekend , fresh up , had a couple decent trials . Decent entries so won’t be easy .
About 600k AUD ran back so far since transfer , if it was million quid sale he still has a bit to do . One big hit will do it this Autumn .March 14, 2026 at 04:01 #1759796Great effort by Vauban , sat behind leader Just Fine and popped out and went by in straight , looked in a bit of trouble on bend but knuckled down well and went past . Won same race last year .
Hes a tough old horse but they have put some zip in him .
Whole field of 7 ex euro imports . There is the odd decent middle distance horse bred in OZ but imports dominate fields .March 14, 2026 at 13:42 #1759935He’s doing well

May 22, 2026 at 22:08 #1767216Vauban goes round in Doomben Cup today , big stakes up , goes out at 9s , i will be having a go using my one betback top 3 of day , Pride of Jenni will let rip on lead and i think something runs her down inside the 200 today , its just which one . Vauban goes well off a bigger break and 9s looks handy value.
May 23, 2026 at 07:58 #1767242Ran on well from the back but never looked like getting there.
What was the jockey doing on Pride Of Jenni? Kicked way too early and, in my opinion, might have won if he had sat in front a bit longer.
May 23, 2026 at 08:13 #1767243I thought it was a decent run , Vauban hopefully will go on to Q22 in a few weeks , 200 more and another 7 figure stake .
Birdman won well , was 3rd in Queens Vase in 2024 , he’s done well in OZ and earnt plenty .
422 k AUD Vauban has bagged in 3 runs this prep , he’s been a good buy considering he has probably a spring and another autumn prep after this left in him .
As for Pride of Jenni , she only runs one way , let’s rip , she sometimes slips them sometimes caught . I thought she was vulnerable today , the QE 2 from Randwick in 2024 worth a look on you tube , gave her too much rope and beat Via Sistina that day . She was retired after bleeding but they have brought her back well this past year as they coped a bit of flack bringing her back .May 23, 2026 at 08:14 #1767244Promptly done my bet back cash from Vauban on Boomtown in next race at Doomben , ran last, acted in haste !!
May 23, 2026 at 08:18 #1767245Waterhouse has Swagman , Sandown Derby Trial winner , either he’s been trouble or she is givng him plenty of time, he’s one Iam looking forward to , she does well with these type of imports .
May 25, 2026 at 09:29 #1767373Vauban owners have got Accidental Bid in Queensland Derby on Saturday . Went out at 150 to 1 for Adrian Nichols at Thirsk on debut finished 2nd . Had one more run in UK then won first two races in OZ . Sat wide in big field in lead up 6th of 16 . Fancied on Saturday , only 3 on 5th April so months behind local 3 year olds , tough but Russian Camelot won South Australian Derby few years back as northern bred , very few try it .
Damside goes back to Helen Street so can see why he was scouted out . - AuthorPosts
