Fantastic double yesterday Ken, Endless INtrigue didn’t win as I expected though.
Made very heavy weather of it but an inch is as good as a mile
As you said in your own thread an inch will do! I think you are correct about The Real Article, he would surely have won that race in a nack canter. Nice to see you nicked some cash from the bookies too.
Just got home in time to see The Ballycullen, terrible price Roses, I feel rather stupid sitting here with an EW at SP
August 21, 2010 at 18:12 #314068Flat Season Profit down to £658.41
I think I’ve got a very special one tomorrow,ENCHANTED EVENING 3.55 Cork, tissue price is RP 7/2, Racing+ 13/8, big variation, I wouldn’t lay her at evens as she looks a really safe bet at the very least to make the 1-2, five declared runners, if all five start and the price is anything like the RP forecast I’ll be lumping on.
Check this seasons records for 4-Y-Olds v. 3-Y-Olds records in Listed/Grade races beyond a mile, it makes very very poor reading for this years classic crop. Not a single win by a 3-Y-Old in Group races and she’s the only older horse in the race. OK this isn’t listed or group but it’s a stakes race and I’ve seen worse grade 3s this year
Add the stats to that the fact that she’s getting weight from a couple of the younger horses, is off levels with another and gives 3lbs to the AOB colt having his first run for almost a year.
She’s top rated on OR and RPR.August 22, 2010 at 10:05 #314166£75 Win ENCHANTED EVENING

I find Irish form more reliable, especially the higher grade races, competant jockeys and better stables and, more importantly, easier to make it pay.
I’ve not been following or betting on the flat or summer jumps (Ascot Gold Cup/Galway excepted) for about a decade, it was the bet365 tipping competition that got me started this year. My NH record/ptofits have always been better than my flat, another reason for taking a break in the summer, too much of anything leads to staleness and I’ve never been that keen on shorter races anyway, prefer 10f + condition races so my choices are limited anyway.
As far as jumpers go I’ve always made far bigger profits on UK Hunter Chases than any other type of race.Small stakes tonight, £7.14ew (odd money in my a/c) on
TREASURE THE CROSS
, (6.35 Sligo) needs to be ridden therebouts, never got into the race last time out, better than the bare form, odds represent decent value but it’s a very open race and not one for big money .
£5ew Double withWELCOME ADDITION
, I’d be a lot more confident about this one if the 16-1 shot
Anshan Dreams
wasn’t in the field. Adrian Maguire’s horse has by far the best form in the field but he’s also run a couple of absolute stinkers. I’ll see how things pan out in the 6.35 before deciding what to do about this race
August 24, 2010 at 17:44 #314530£25 ew WELCOME ADDITION, £5 ew saver Anshan Dreams
August 25, 2010 at 10:30 #314577Summer flat profit down to £592.49
Superb ride in defeat by Pat Smullen on Treasure The Cross. photo finish and stewards enquiry, we still had to settle for second place.
Welcome Addition was hugely disapointing, didn’t handle the track at all, couldn’t get to the front from wide draw, lost action and went very wide turing ino the back straight, never in the race afterwards. One to avoid until he’s goes left handed. Anshan Dreams was on one for his off days and i’s time to give up on him.Quite a collection of horses that were useful a long time ago in the last a Bellewstown, the favourite has an appauling record in small fields which leaves Jessica Harrington’s recent Galway bumper winner, GREENBELT STAR as the only runner with good recent form and no question marks £24.28 ew @ 4-1 Best Odds etc. With a decent pace likely to be set by End Of The Affair, Greenbelt Star won’t have to be all that good to beat these.
August 25, 2010 at 15:58 #314612Had another £15 EW GREENBELT STAR @ 5-1 Best Odds
August 25, 2010 at 19:12 #314634Bet to nothing but unlucky nevertheless, bumped inside the final furlong, beaten a neck
otherwise the race panned out much as expected, Greenbelt Star probably needs further
Flat Season profit £602.31August 26, 2010 at 09:04 #314684On the best of her form Gil Na Greine should win the 6.20 at Tipperary fairly easily but she is very inconsistent and better value may be had by backing EMULOUS each way.
Another offering real value at the current odds is VITRUVIAN MAN in the 7.50. Once destined for the very highest grade he missed most of last season but had a comeback run under a welter weight in a hot handicap at Galway and if retaining a sliver of the ability he showing in Group grade as a 2-Y-Old he should have little trouble disposing of tonights opposition. Fitness will need to be taken on trust, however.
VITRUVIAN MAN £10 win @ 8-1
EMULOUS £10 EW @ 4-1August 26, 2010 at 17:22 #314732GIL NA GRIENE starts a £3.50 Treble
August 26, 2010 at 17:48 #314736£5 D VITRUVIAN MAN & SMOKEY JOE JOE
August 27, 2010 at 09:27 #314811Winner and second, Vitruvian Man didn’t settle but ran well, well worth keeping an eye on as the winner might well turn out to be very useful.
£18.50 lost on day Flat Season Profit dropped to £583.81Very tempted to back Tillietudlem (looks good value at Thirsk) but I’m going to stick to my policy of avoiding Handicaps, cost me dearly last night with Grangeclare Gold (W10/1) who I backed in her last three runs (1st, 2nd & 4th
Two selections tonight both at Wexford, ALBURJ and BENEFIQUE (NH Flat)
Stakes later
August 27, 2010 at 13:36 #314839I’m rather underwhelmed by the prices of both ALBURJ and BENEFIQUE (NH Flat) at Wexford tonight but it’s very hard to see either out of the frame so a £25 EW Double placed
August 27, 2010 at 18:51 #314877Bet to nothing £1.87 lost
Flat season Profit £581.94August 28, 2010 at 08:37 #314920Nothing to really enthuse over today, I’ve had a quick look through the card for Bob Rolf’s competition and found four…..only the last appeals as a betting prospect so a 50p ew Yankee and an extra 50pew acc will sufice, may come back if there’s no running up money but I’ve earmarked two special ones tomorrow, a real banker at Galway and a big price EW at The Curragh so I’ll be keeping my powder dry today
ZEBEDEE 3.55 Newmarket
CLONARD LAD 4.35 Galway
STAR NEUVILLE 6.05 Galway
FLYNG CLOUD 6.40 WindsorAugust 28, 2010 at 17:17 #314944Winner, NR and a second, odd money in my account £6.13 to win on Flying Cloud
