I can see no logical reason for Unity or the very exposed She’s Our Mark to reverse the "Blue wind" form with

    GRACE O’MALLEY

    0n the same terms. £30 ew ‘ 100/30 placed.
Dermont Weld’s mare will be better suited by the step up in trip than She’s Our Mark who is trying the trip for the first time in 40 runs while Unity can be expected to improve, but her form just doesn’t seem up to this grade.

Not that any of these should even be whispered in the same sentance as the great Noblesse who could have given this field 2 furlongs start and still won without coming off the bit

Terrific ride by Pat Smullen on Grace O’Malley and Unity’s run was a pointer to the chances of ALBURJ in The Queens Vase

Some recovery, Season loss now reduced to -£78.75

It’s really hard to see any outcome to the first at Ascot other than

    Paco Boy

    and

    Goldikova

    fighting out the finish.
Ditto the St James Palace Stakes where it looks between

    Mafki

    and

    Canford Cliffs

. If I’m right the sensible bet is 2×2 ew doubles, I’ll go for £3.75 as a unit stake, £30 in all.

    Other fancies are

    MARKAB

who I’ve been looking at for some weeks as a possible decent ew in The Kings Stand and Herbery Morrison’s

    SLEEPY HOLLOW

in The Ascot Stakes. He ran the race of his life at The Festival in The Neptune, IMO one of the hottest novice hurdles for several years indeed he was still in front when crashing through the wings of the second last. Considering Peddlars Cross, Reve De Sivola and Rite of Passage filled the first three places, any one of these would be a very short priced favourite in this field, dangers would appear to be two other NH horses, Junior and Ghimaar. Stakes later on these two.

Also a 20p ew yankee and an extra 30p ew acc on the first names in my cross doubles with the later selections, a modest £35 to kick off the meeting, it’s easy to burn out too early at Ascot.

Cautionary tale. Back in the 1960s I went to the meeting to back a horse Neol Murless’s called Twilight Alley, I’d made him a stone cold certainty for weeks before, the colt duly won in a canter but I’d done my cash on the earlier races and had nothing left to back the one good thing at the meeting :(

£17.52 profit on the day. Three of my second choices won, two with my cash on luckily but I decided against a saver on Junior, bad move.
Rafki out of the frame was the biggest loser. Ah well I don’t really take ascot all that seriously

    Flat Season currently minus £61.19

I can only find two horses of any interest tomorrow.

    John Oxx’s

    SINKANA

(NAP) will only have to show moderate progression from two to three to land the 8.00 at Punchestown
I’ll go for a fiver ew double starting with

    MOONLIT GARDEN

in the 5.00 at Ascot to try to get some running up money and I’ll probably have a small ew yankee with two hurdlers I strongly fancy at Worcester…see "Summer Jumpers" thread

Very hard to see Twice Over out of the three. He sets the standard and is the one to beat imo. Good luck :)

Beaten by a brilliant ride by the young French jockey, he really looks one for the furure, ah well nothing lost, I’m off to Worcster for a more serious bet!

Apart from The Gold Cup I’m finding it hard to enthuse over the rest of the flat card

For an interest on the telly …….

    3 x 50p ew Doubles £1 ew Treble

    PRINCIPLE ROLE 3.05 Ascot
    QUADRILE 5.00 Ascot
    ANAVERNA 8.05 Leopardstown

Great performance by my "Ascot Bet Of The Week" Rite of Pasage W 20-1 (First advised on here at 25-1)

Flat Season Profit now stands at £517.69

I’ll have a small ew on ANAVERNA 8.05 Leopardstown if my selection in the 7.55 at Limerick gets beat, I doubt if I’ll have time to post the stake but it won’t be much until then I’ll have
3 x 50p ew doubles and £1 ew treble with
OUR ERIC 9.05 Leopardstown, ridden by the best jockey in the race, Kaite Walsh, far better value at 14-1 than Fantasy King the obvious danger but no value at 5-2 and a jumper THE FOX’S FROLIC 7.55 Tipperary who I really fancy at huge odds.

Well done Chelts with Rite of Passage. Has Mrs C decided on what she is going to spend the winnings on yet?

Her Mini Cooper S is in for it’s MOT right now and as we are going on a cycle ride along The Caledonian Canal with our collie tomorrow, I hope there will be enough left for a fish supper in Fort Augustus, superb chippie, proper chips not soggy at all…. if you are ever up this way,
