On the subject of the Ryanair, I took 60’s on Betfair about another Gigginstown horse this morning: Outlander. Expecting big showing today in Clonmel, I thought he still looked to have plenty in the tank when taking a bad fall at the last.

There’s plenty to like about his past form. A good bumper horse, he was on the verge of the best novice hurdler but just shy of the Grade 1 animals. He ran a big race in a Neptune when beaten 6 lengths by Windsor Park in a race which was not run to suit him.

He always looked the type to be a better chaser and so he has been, beating Monksland and Pont Alexandre a lot easier than the 2.75L winning margin suggests in the Moriarty at Leopardstown. He went to the JLT with a big chance but nothing went right for him. He was almost left at the start, then was rushed up to chase the leaders early. He was never in a decent rhythm and crashed out at the fourth last. He backed up quickly at to race at the Fairyhouse and Punchestown festivals was asking plenty of him but he didn’t disgrace himself at either venue.

I think he’s probably better than he showed at the spring festivals and could run a big race in the Lexus before dropping in trip for the Ryanair.

I was very happy with that from Outlander today. The Ryanair looks wide open and he has as good a chance as most at this stage, and it looks the obvious target for him which cannot be said for most of the others near the head of the market.

Yeah Tommy, I said at the time that that looked a good bet, and didn’t see much to dissuade me today. Just in from work, and liked what I seen there.

I’m going to stick to my guns though, and leave The Ryanair alone now, until a lot nearer the time, after last years bloodbath.

Good luck with him, though I don’t think you’re gonna need it ;-)

So close Raymo, but had the consolation of a decent each way return from Village Vic at the 16’s, and also got a few quid back from Quite By Chance as well, so shouldn’t really complain.

As for Eastlake, I didn’t have a penny on, didn’t even consider him yesterday

Why would you send Outlander to the Ryansir in preference to Empire Of Dirt? According to the RP site Empire Of Dirt is 160, has won his last three starts including bolting up on his only start over course and distance. Outlander is on 159, hasn’t won any of his last six and is 0/2 at the Festival. It should be an absolute no-brainer.

Attribution gave a little boost to the Identity Thief/Ordinary World form yesterday and hopefully we will see that match-up with Min.

It’s probably my pocket ruling my head Stilvi, as I’d love Empire of Dirt to go Gold Cup, though in all reality, as we’ve said all along, The Ryanair has always looked the ideal target for him. At least they’re taking a step in the right direction…….Lexus entry & no entry in The Paddy Power.

As far as Outlander is concerned, I really like him, and though I’d agree, and rate him behind Empire, I still think that Tommy has a fair price on him………….though worth bearing in mind that this is coming from someone who’s “book” in last years Ryanair still gives him nightmares.

It would be nice to be put out of my misery, one way or the other.

I don’t think it is stretching the imagination to suggest that Empire Of Dirt might well have won the John Durkan. Djakadam had been softened up by Sub Lieutenant and although he eventually outbattled Outlander I don’t believe Walsh crossed the line with any aces left up his sleeve. It is hard to believe Empire Of Dirt wouldn’t have travelled into the race better than Outlander.

The most difficult thing to understand in this saga is (seemingly) the lack of input from Bryan Cooper. You would think he would be in pole position to steer them in the right direction.

Just one other thought on the Festival. Although I wouldn’t fancy him for any race I suspect Russell will be doing his best to steer Whisper towards the JLT. He is already on the winner of the RSA!

Oh I know that feeling stilvi, only too well. Even worse when you think they’re calling it wrong. I’m still smarting from having Don Cossack at roughly 250’s to 350’s for The Gold Cup 2 years, and they ran him in The Ryanair. I said on here a few times when it was becoming evident that he was Ryanair bound, that it was quite clearly the wrong race for him. I didn’t feel any better this year after the Gold Cup win, when O’Leary came out and said “you don’t run horses like Don Cosack” in The Ryanair. I said a few swear words. I vowed never to forgive him after that…………….until Rule The World won The National haha.

I’m actually a big fan of Djakadam, and had a fair go on him for The Gold Cup 2 years ago, but I’d be with you, I think once they realise what they’ve got, then Empire of Dirt is the better horse.

Oh yeah, I think Russell will have a big say in this, and might just be some juice in The JLT as a result. I’ve scrapped my book for The RSA for a measly profit, and I honestly think my bet on the day, will be Russells mount. Don’t think I’ll have any more Ante-Post on it.

I forgot to reply to that Ordinary World comment yesterday. I’d love to see that match. For someone who usually ignores The Arkle, just not my kind of race, then this will be my third “mad keen” Ante-Post go on it, in the last few years. Mixed bag so far, what with Ttebbobs capitulation last year, but not so long ago I went for another loud one in Baily Green, not considered, and really did have the beating of Simonsig. I still smart over that one too lol. Time will tell with Ordinary World, but happy to put my money where my mouth is, and I think he’s got a chance.

I suspect that the Arkle might be one of the hotter races at the Festival. Then again Altior might frighten one or two elsewhere. A clear round and he is going to be very, very difficult to beat. On that basis it wouldn’t surprise at all if Ordinary World also got a Grand Annual entry. Clearly his solid jumping would be an asset in that race but the negative would be that run to the first which can be akin to the Charge Of The Light Brigade.

I’m not so sure stilvi, I’ve said often enough that I’m not that big a fan of The Arkle, and a lot of that is down to the big guns scaring away most of the opposition, and it’s often a small, select field. I find the G1 2 Mile chase scene, and probably always have, just a bit uncompetitive. Having said that, your point is a good one, and if he’s there Altior will be hard to beat, he looks superb already, and we know he likes Cheltenham…..just a bit.

I’d say Ordinary World is 100% certain to get a Grand Annual entry, but I’m hoping he goes Arkle, not just because I still believe he’s way overpriced, but also because I’m so bloody keen on Sizing Platinum for that race.

On the face of it a miserable performance from Mall Dini, at least some 20lbs below his best. He still jumped but was never travelling as he can. I just hope that was down to the ground.

Just in from work, and watched the finish, very disappointing indeed. Can only hope it was down to the ground, as would be deeply concerning otherwise.

I don’t think they were too bothered about picking up races prior to the Pertemps but you would think it would be different plan in the novice division. Unless of course they are trying to give him an alternative handicap option. That’s a dangerous game these days. Strangely, he hasn’t moved in the RSA market. The winner of today’s race is best priced 25/1 and I wouldn’t fancy him at any price.

Very impressed with Brain Power today. I had backed both him and Wolf Of Windlesham. I don’t think I have seen a handicap that looked so competitive won so easily. I missed the very fancy prices (must have lasted a few seconds) but took the 33/1 for the Champion Hurdle. He has questions to answer, particularly left handed, but in terms of actual ability I can’t see too better ahead of him in the market. There are doubts about front two coming back and I don’t think last year’s Champion was a very strong renewal. Hopefully, they can retain David Mullins.

Took the 9/4 on Invitation Only for tomorrow. I am hoping the front two don’t beat each other up. The ground is probably the reason for the weakness in Monalee.

Hopefully just a blip for Mall Dini, but he really must put that behind him.

I had Brain Power down (quietly) as a very definite G1 horse for next year, I really thought they’d keep him down the handicap route this year, and I was fairly confident he’d be County Hurdle bound. I made a right few quid off him at big prices Ante-Post at Punchestown, and also laying him in the same race. He really impressed me that day for such an inexperienced horse.

I was at work, so if there were prices above 33’s I wouldn’t have had a chance, but I’ve also taken the 33’s, and I really think he is a player. It’s just a bit of a sore one for me, I genuinely thought about adding him to the market on Betfair a few weeks back, and I dread to think the price I could have got. I don’t really want to think about it. The cats out of the bag though, and just happy to have caught the 33’s before it went. I don’t even think the 25’s will last.

The bittersweet win of Brain Power aside, I actually had a decent day, Another Hero at 50’s was a very welcome return, and Midnight Shadow at Newcastle @ 18’s ew, and 19’s and 20’s on the exchanges was a decent lift for me, so shouldn’t complain.

I’ll miss most of the racing tomorrow as I’m working, though depending on how busy I am, I’ll try to catch some of it on my phone. I’ll just have an each way Lucky 63 off of my winnings today. I’ll chance Monalee to place I think, even though Invitation Only & Death Duty look formidable opponents. I’ll also be adding the likes of Rossvoss, Getoutwhenyoucan, and Bright Tomorrow. Any joy with that, and I might add M Seven Seven Gus in the last at Thurles to place, he could be a possible at a big price.

Woeful performance from Invitation Only. More fool me for backing him after originally speculating this might be the wrong race. Glanced at a Racing Post and the analyst suggested he might want a step up in trip. Personally, I think a less exacting 2m4f, or even shorter, on better ground would be the way to go. Either way he seemed to lack scope and I would have plenty of doubts going forward. I still believe Monalee will improve for better ground and I wouldn’t give up on an Albert Bartlett challenge.

On a more positive note (probably looking towards a Neptune) Finian’s Oscar has just made a very taking debut at Hereford. Only downside for me is the recent Potts/Coleman alliance. I really try to avoid Coleman like the plague.
