…..Shouldn’t be reversed. The interference looked worth more than the winning distance ,we need to get away from the win at all costs jockey mentality.Atenzi had ridden himself into a pocket and had to push his way out and then for the 2nd bit of interference he had failed to switch his whip into the correct hand to prevent it.
Correct disqualification in my view given the winning distance and Atzeni should get a ban aswell. In terms of the rules barging your way out should be outlawed and then jockeys wouldn’t do it because they know they’ll get disqualified….should have happened to Peslier on the Queens horse at Goodwood easy winner or not.
Huge IF at this early stage but its not implausible to think that O’Brien might be growing tired of interference from ‘the lads’……The Gleneagles stuff seemed odd at times and jockey arrangements have looked messy and odd not least due to Ryan Moore’s injury.
The way that Gosden “talks at” interviewers rather than to them really annoys me….it assumes that he is the only person with an opinion and that the rest of us are know nothings…he may be smiling when he does it but there is nothing but self serving humour there and certainly nothing self depreciating…..I for one don’t need Gosden to bore me with his smart arsed lectures…..quite happy to listen to a conversation but not a lecture.
I’ll leave the condescending and slightly racist sounding stuff to others but I also don’t think Rishi is anchor material for a big day’s racing but I dont think bringing his ethnicity into it is is anyway helpful or indeed acceptable.
.
Isn’t giving someone a job because of their ethnicity racist? Pointing out that that may be the case isn’t racist. It may be a misinformed and / or ignorant view, possibly, but it’s nothing more than that.
Personally I don’t mind Rishi Persad. There are better presenters out there but there are some that are a damn sight worse as well. Mick Fitzgerald for one is absolutely awful yet features constantly. Tom Lee has all the charisma of a table leg. Emma Spencer is eye candy nothing more. Tanya is totally unnatural in front of the camera.
Channel 4 has bigger problems than Rishi Persad.
As Gingertipster has said it is inherently racist to assume that Rishi Persad ( or anyone else) could only have got their job because of their ethnicity…….is that your assumption about anybody non white who appears on television???
As for juvenile references early in the thread about coffee creams etc etc……..utterly shameful and shaming…condescending and unquestionably racist.Grow up.
Really lacklustre coverage of Ascot today … Rishi is downgraded from competent to unemployable based on truly cringeworthy questions today to the winning jockeys and Claire is officially not as good as Nick Luck at presenting the programme….she has lost interest by the sound of her….
Gok Wan is unwatchable for me : Puerile sense of humour (if you can call it that) no gravitas or anything interesting or intelligent to say ….adds nothing just grates….the BBC did it much much better in every department (except paddock/form analysis) back in the day.
Didn’t back Muthmir but would have liked to see a stronger finish ridden on him in the closing stages.
The 2 day Epsom meeting should be up there with Royal Ascot standard of races and only the big 3 races plus the Woodcote comes anywhere near the required standard IMO…..however to achieve this Royal Ascot (and the not so glorious in terms of quality either) Goodwood would need to be moved further into the Summer ( last week June and July respectively) so that Epsom ( for all of its unsuitability as a course) can attract quality fields to what should be quality races….at the moment we have neither
Nick Luck,Simon Holt Jim McGrath and Graham Cunningham are all excellent……everyone else is either adequate ( Rishi Persad and Brian Gleeson ) or unemployably awful( the Rest)…
However a new low has been reached by having Jeff (?) Banks on the Morning Line ( which is a terrible programme anyway)….Banks has no insight whatsoever and just charmlessly shoots his mouth off in all directions clearly causing embarrassment for those unfortunate enough to be lumbered with his company….dragging the show down to ridiculously low depths….get rid.
Retiring is going to be unimaginably difficult for AP and I think the people around him will need to look after him after his last day riding because being arguably the best jockey ever has been his life 100%.
It is a bold and dignified decision to stop as an unbeaten champion but he may find going cold turkey impossibly tough and maybe he could have considered retiring as Champion but kept riding on a different basis for a couple of more seasons on his own terms just for the love of it…..all of that would go totally against the way AP sees his life from what we know of him but it would be more of an ease into giving up than the classy but ultimately brutal way he is doing it.I wish him well but his sadness is palpable.
If Gleneagles touched Full Mast at all it looked like it was just on the post and couldn’t have affected the result for me…….the 2nd and 3rd horses bumped each other aswell.
We Are slightly hampered a beaten horse when making his move…..The French have to introduce the question of whether interference affects the result before they start chucking winners out otherwise it will be a farce.
Cirrus drifting on to the 2nd horse could be reasonably judged to have affected the result and therefore deserved the elbow.
To be quite honest I cannot recall
Lester
throwing away group races
like Joseph does.Camelot, Magician, Tapestry and now the super horse Australia.Sure a lot of wonderful horses for a very young man.No? Perhaps too young for that king of responsibility.
What about the 1977 Leger on Alleged? Terrible ride.Seriously though it was pound for pound his worst ever…..there weren’t many though.
The best you can say about the Joseph ride is that he has underestimated his opponent in that he thought he could afford to circle the field and still win……nearly but not quite.Poor.
Haven’t watched it yet but from previous exchanges Dettori is sounding like a nightmare to work with as he makes a very unconvincing bid to become a star presenter……
Unwilling or unable to give his colleagues what they are after in terms of input..being Frankie Dettori will only take him so far but he needs to settle down and play ball.Dettori clearly has a self promoting for when he retires agenda here and it jars with the programme.
I’m almost thining bring back Willie Carson I say who had a winning way at being terrible without trying to make himself sound clever and something he wasn’t in the meantime.
Good but not great jockey….as his record shows.
Amazing that a ‘managerial role’
appeals more to him than being a top jockey at only 34??? But I suppose when the desire goes ……it goes.Racing manager jobs strike me in a lot of cases as tending towards a non job or maybe a thank you for a retired jockey ( a la Mercer,Raymond and now Hills)
There can’t be much to it if Harry Herbert of all people can run the Highclere syndicates AND be racing manager to Al Shaqab racing….
August 10, 2014 at 08:37 in reply to: The Shergar Cup – is it really any good, or just propoganda? #487961I also agree totally with Betlarge……the Shergar Cup is what it is and it does what it says on the tin……there is NO bad news.
By far the most worrying thing here is how it brings out the cynicism, bitterness, snobbery and negativity that abounds in forums like this over something that is a bit of take it or leave it fun.
July 30, 2014 at 20:06 in reply to: Big blow for Channel 4 Racing as Derby only pulls in 1.5m #486937Also amusing and blindingly obvious are Frankie Dettori’s clumsy attempts recently to feather his retirement nest by cutting his teeth as a pundit and thereby frequently refusing to play ball with the presenters when they try and treat him like a commenting jockey rather than a potential co presenter…..he is sadly not a presenter and his jockey’s insight doesn’t come across that great either.
July 29, 2014 at 19:39 in reply to: Sheikh Hamdan’s decision to run Taghrooda in the King George #486777This is a total non thread IMO ……there is no bad news about Taghrooda running in the King George whatsoever…..an owner exercising their perfect right to run their horse where they like……good for them and good for the race.
Sheikh Hamdan of all people owes racing absolutely nothing.
