Had a few bets in the last 24 hours, so i think they’re all NRNB.
Latest this eve – West End Rocker e/w at 40s (1st 5)
Vic Venturi – e/w at 50s
Skippers Brig – e/w at 50s (hope he gets in!)
Or Noir de Somoza – e/w at 50s
King Fontaine – e/w at 50s
Don’t Push it – win only – at 16sProb do 2 win only on Saturday – from the 1st 6 in the betting – it feels so wide open compared to previous years.
No bets yet for me – not really sure – seems to be many in with a decent chance – a number of horses’ chances will obviously be ground dependant – like What a Friend, for example – any soft in the going i wouldn’t fancy that particular horse, but if it stays dry and ground is good then he must come into the equation.
But the weather looks like it’s on the change for the north-west -forecast wet for a few days this week – i’ll wait until Friday eve i think before first bet.
I’ll stick to the jumps!

Sweet Lightning’s Trainer’s comment in the Racing Post today
"….his best form is on a sharp turning mile and a quarter"Trainers – what do they know?!

Light from mars
Dream Lodge
Al MuheerAll E/W at decent prices for me, paying 1st 5 places.
Fingers crossedInteresting to see P Scudamore report in his Monday column in the Mail today that official handicapper, Phil Smith, had said that In Compliance, Silver By Nature and What a Friend were the three he would most like to reassess for the National.
Haven’t had a detailed look at this race yet, but one issue to take into account is the forecasted weather for the 2nd half of this week.
Wet and windy to come – could quite easily change the ground at Doncaster, after this prolonged dry spell.
I’ll be leaving any betting until Friday eve/Saturday morn.Where do i start?
Had the week off work, as usual – watched on TV except for thursday when we attended at Cheltenham.
Al ferof in the Supreme – it always feels so good to get the winner in the 1st.
Hurricane Fly in the CH, after i’d doubted him – watching Quevega compete ‘on the gallops’! Well, that’s what it seemed like – a steering job for Ruby. That completed a double (with HF).
Not many on wednesday for me personally, but Sizing Europe was pretty classy.
Thursday – being there. One gripe – price of drink and food – disgusting rip-off really – it reminded me why we haven’t been for a few years.
The racing was superb on Thursday.
AP winning the 1st – always nice to see him on the ‘scoreboard’ to silence his ‘knockers’ – unbelievable that after all these years there are those who continue to knock him – most of ’em couldn’t sit tight on a rocking horse!
Albertas Run – the value bet of the day IMO with the sun beating down.
Big Bucks – awesome!
Junior in the last – a typical Pipe-plot job.
Friday – major ante-post gamble landed by me on Zarkandar in the 1st – looks classy – worth an early e/w punt for next year’s CH, maybe?
The Gold Cup – although IC’s failure cost me a double (with Big Bucks) and a treble (BB and Quevega) – those last couple of fences with Denman, Kauto and Long Run together was truly memorable.Overall i had 7 winners and 2 big priced e/w pick ups – total winnings of £645 – net gain of £425. doesn’t seem much with all those winners but i’m only a tenner a race guy.
What a fab race!
I lost though, as i had IC in a treble and double with Quevega and Big Bucks.I was not convinced about Long Run before but happy to have been wrong – awesome!
Maybe it’s just human nature to stick with what you know – i normally take a while to warm to the ‘new kid(s) on the block’.A good Cheltenham for me – 7 winners and 2 big priced e/w jobs.
But most were relatively short priced so actual winnings below my 2008 total, which was boosted by 3 separate bets on Katchit.Highlight for me personally was today’s win by Zarkandar – a decent ante post punt from a few weeks ago.
Albertas was a great one yday, together with Quevega/Hurricane Fly double on Tuesday. One thing about this forum – why did we have a good piece on HF for Tuesday and then nothing else each day for the big races?
The HF piece is still on here tonight!Get in!
One of my ante-posts comes up trumps!
Top performance – he was mightily impressive at Kempton the other week and again today at Cheltenham.Been on Zarkandar for a while now but this looks a difficult call.
And as Francombe has just tipped Z, that’s the bet down the drain!

I still think his first one was the best, his oppostition since Punchestowns has been dire.
So maybe Grand Crus was over hyped.
Grand Crus, the young turk – BB the ‘daddy’ – Grand Crus clipping other young turks around the back of the head and then the ‘daddy’ turns up and gives the ‘young turk’ a slap!
"Get back in line! I’m not ready to hand over my crown yet!"Arrived at the course at 10.50am – sun beginning to come through – by 12.30 it was warm and sunny – track looked dry – i thought this is ideal for McCoy and Albertas Run – did not disappoint.
13/2 on course – an absolute steal in those conditions! Me and the wife are v Happy this eve!
Just got home after a day at Cheltenham with my wife.
3 out of 6 for us.
BB was absolutely awesome! Man v Boy – simple as!
Quevega, BB – i just need Imperial Commander to complete the treble – NTD not in form though – concerned!
i thought that too reet hard, celestial halo is worth backing for a place
CH is a non-runner
Forecast changed again this morning for tomorrow.
Rain in the early hours and into first part of the morning – then drying up by midday.
Rain not as heavy as forecast yesterday for Friday.
Probably put more ‘soft’ into the going but not too much.IC for me (bets made a few weeks ago), but confidence draining away as NTD’s bad run this week continues.
If it does come up really soft then maybe Pandorama will be in with a shout.
The Mullins pair cant get any luck. Micky D looked the winner until he fell.
Time For Rupert…what a disgrace that was. As bad a effort as you ever see for a favorite in a grade 1. Desperate
C’Mon – favourites at the Cheltenham Festival?! We all know that means v little over 27 races over the 4 days!
IMO there was only 1 bomb-proof favourite this week and that was Quevega – next best is Big Bucks – why? Because they’ve been unbeatable in their races over the last couple of years.
Wayward Prince is one of my ante-post bets – got on at 20s in January.
Chucked him in an e/w double with Woolocombe Folly this morning.
Couldn’t leave TFR out of calcs this morning so had a little bet with him in 2 doubles – one with Big Zeb and one with MM.- AuthorPosts
